Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. This N320 so many seem to be fond of; how fine are the granules compared to say... Winchester 231? Does it meter well? I've been using Accurate #2 for several reasons, most of which however is its fine granules and excelent metering. Also, why do you prefer N320?
  2. I'm about to begin reloading rifle ammunition (.223) for the first time and I’ve got a question before I buy. Knowing what you all know now, what case trimmer would you buy were you starting anew?
  3. Check out the Accurate Powder Reloading Guide. It has got some good data for both FN and JHP for several different bullet manufacturers. I assume you don't have one since they don't offer it anymore (apparently it's being "reworked" and might be done in 6 months or something). Here is a link to the most recent; it's a pdf version online: http://www.scribd.com/doc/36302640/Accurate-Reloading-Guide The website is super slow to load but once it does you can browse the whole manual. If you want the actual pdf file I've got it saved on my computer; send me an email.
  4. I want to like Accurate #2. It has such fine granules and looks like it will meter very well. Any feelings on this? I'm going to give it a try next week with some 180gr. Rainier HP bullets.
  5. Thanks for looking that up for me. Are you familiar with Montana Gold bullets? What are your feelings about loading a 180gr. JHP Montana Gold Bullet to the same perameters as the 180 gr. Hornaday XTP bullet? I've been told that the 124gr. JHP 9mm Montanta Gold bullet is dimensionally similar to its HDY XTP conterpart.
  6. Your Dillon dies will not remove the bulg you get from guns like the glock. If you want to reload brass shot in a Glock you might think about getting a roll sizer. They work great. Money spent on a case gage is money well spent. Not only is it quicker to check frequently while reloading, it's certainly safer.
  7. Does anyone have some good load data for loading .40 S&W Montana Gold bullets (either JHP or CMJ) with Accurate #2 powder?
  8. And now I see that I've posted this question in the wrong place... Yep, definitely a newbie.

  10. Update: I received my .40 compact M&P back from Dan on Saturday and couldn't be happier with the results. I purchased the Standard Trigger Job and asked him to not lower the trigger pull weight all the way down to 3.5 pounds (this is my concealed carry gun). My biggest original complaint with the trigger was the reset. It used to take several mushy clicks and a great distance of return trigger travel to reach the reset. Now, the reset is positive and much much shorter. Additionally, the pre-travel is now smooth and consistent, and the over-travel has been eliminated. I also shipped a new set of Heinie Ledge Straight Eight night sights with the gun and asked him to install them. I have only positive thoughts about Dan's work. The trigger exceeds my expectations and all of the work seems done with great care. The gun is exceedingly more accurate than I am. I would highly recommend Dan's services. I'm certain that I'll be sending him additional guns in the future.
  11. Before carrying my new M&P .40, I carried a Glock 27 for over 7 years. It was when I shot my friends XD that I realized a change needed to be made. That's how I made my way over to the M&P. What got me... The grip angle. For me, the M&P points level as soon as I bring it up; the Glock didn't.
  12. Update: I corresponded with Dan today... It sounds like we had some technical difficulties with regard to my messages reaching him. I'll be sending the gun off to him. Thanks to all for the really great suggestions; I'd actually like to buy a service size M&P (not for concealed carry) and try some of the DIY ideas. Something tells me though that after owning one of Dan's triggers I'll be hard pressed not to send future guns to him as well.
  13. That was kind of my point... The S&W dude sure didn't make me want to send the gun there.
