  1. I'm not a huge fan of the rule. But its the rule. I bought a Glock 35 and conversion barrel. I was already reloading for 9mm, had a significant stock of components, and didn't have the ability to buy a worthwhile amount of .40 components. That $150 for the barrel wouldn't have gotten me much. And I sold the 9mm pistol I was shooting to get the Glock. So now I've got a 3gun pistol, and the local outlaw action pistol. If I shoot USPSA I run SS. I only say all that to say that I'm an example of someone who might shoot production with a barrel conversion if it were allowed. I really don't think it's a big deal either way. I can't envision there being any difference in the outcome of a match if it were allowed, but I also can't envision someone not shooting a USPSA match because they can't convert their gun. If you want to shoot a match you figure something out within the rules and go shoot. Kevin
  2. Looks like maybe chemical? What will take off blueing like that? ETA Nice pistol!!!!!!
  3. Here's another spot for kydex http://www.cpwsa.com/ready_tactical.htm Scroll down towards the bottom for the revo holsters
  4. Outstanding advice! A club is not a law enforcement agency, nor is USPSA. There are no loopholes or special provisions. Stay safe and stay legal. Calguns.net really is a great resource for local shooters. I've lived here my whole life and still have to double check on the legal stuff sometimes. Welcome to shooting and the forums! Kevin
  5. I love my Model 10. It was on consignment at a local gun shop for $250, it has a 4" heavy barrel. After tax and DROS it was almost $300. It's the best money I ever spent, they're just awesome revo's. I bought mine for ICORE as well, but now I take it out almost every time I go shooting. If you don't like it you can get your money back, they're going for $260 online right?
  6. That's really good advice. It's well worth the time to go back and read a book again, it can be a completely new book. Definitely true of Brian's book. Kevin
  7. Easy to mount a magnifying glass. This isn't my scale, but I'm thinking more about it as my eyes get worse too.
  8. I heard that on the radio this morning too. Really cool story. I can't say that I've ever noticed the targets seeming bigger, but I'm sure gonna think about them that way from now on. That last sentence is interesting. The paragraph before that he suggests that a little uncertainty will make the athlete try a little harder. I'm not sure that's a good thing for shooting a stage. At least not for me, when I try hard in a match it usually doesn't end well. It might apply well to a more physical contest, like running or weight lifting. For me a touch of uncertainty makes me shoot a stage safer. Maybe not take that super tight shot when I could move closer. Over a whole match that works well for me, at my C level anyway. Thanks for posting it Kevin
  9. Me too, welcome to the forum west coaster! I finally got an UpLula loader and cant believe I never had one before. You're right, I don't need it on my 1911 mags but it sure is nice on the glock mags. A couple of the local IDPA matches are about 100-125 rounds, they're not so bad on the thumb. But some of the USPSA matches and the local Action Pistol match can push 300 rounds. That's when I really love that loader. I have let mine sit loaded as well and it does help, alot. Kevin
  10. You need some more wads like this: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/161681/bpi-shotshell-wads-12-gauge-125-nitro-card-bag-of-500 Makes the stack of components in the hull the right height. Alternatively you can trim the hull down to a length that works for you. I trim my hulls for slug loads and use a roll crimper with a hand held drill. I cut a piece of pvc pipe to the length I wanted and saw off what sticks out. Either way, but wads are cheap and will save you alot of time.
  11. Johnnies in Culver City! They serve Beaver mustard there. It helps I live down the street Langers is good too.

  13. Thanks for the post. Several books that have had a profound effect on how I view what I see and think I've learned about on this forum. Really appreciate it
  14. I used this insert and a large crescent wrench to change mine. Put the barrel in soft jaws on the vise, worked great. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/556397/maryland-gun-works-revolver-action-frame-wrench-insert-s-and-w-n-frame
  15. Seems like you understand pretty well. Must have been the beer! Always helps me too

  17. Not to your level? If you're that concerned about you performance it's definitely gonna mess with your head. I know it does mine. I struggle with this as well. If you can shoot without concern for the outcome then we don't need any excuses. Like that's easy to do One of my all time favorite threads, might help: http://www.brianenos...showtopic=91236 Kevin yes, not my expectations, but my abilities. I know my capabilities, and prefer that the presence of competitors, or stress of a match have me invent situations to create excuses. So yes, I have stepped up dry firing, I feel that training to build confidence will help with my self image. Went to an IDPA match sat. I know it will sound funny, but put on plugs and hearing protectors on so as not to hear other peoples times, or negative discussions. Had to fend off some thoughts that were steering the wrong direction. Results were fabulous. That's not funny, that's AWESOME! Nice job. It's not easy to fend off sabotaging thoughts, not easy at all.

  19. Welcome, you'll find that SoCal is a great place to be for this kind of fun. Lots of great clubs around and some outstanding 3 gun. Kevin
  20. Nice!!!!!!! Looking forward to pics of the process! Kevin
  21. My 230gr LRN load is 176pf out of my 1911 and 169pf out of 4" 625, so probably close to a wash out of a 5" 625.
  22. Thanks, I was kinda leaning towards 11 degrees. Kevin
  23. I decided to change the 4" barrel on my 625 for a 5". Now that I'm getting ready to order the tooling from Brownells looks like there's some choices to make. 11 degree or 18 degree forcing cone? Does it matter? If it matters I shoot lead, Bayou Bullets coated these days. Thanks for any thoughts Kevin
  24. +a million. It'll be 10 years for me in April and it's definitely the mental side that was the toughest for me. I used the patch as well. I used it for about 6 weeks, but I had to stop drinking for over a year. I couldn't have a beer and not want to smoke. That and everyone I would have been drinking with would have been smoking as well. I had to put some relationships on hold until I was far enough removed from the drug to be able to smell it on them and still resist the urge.. I lost some relationships too, but I think my health was worth it. I had tried and failed a few times before I finally made it. It will get easier, stay tough, and congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kevin
