  1. Are you taking the pic with the photobucket app? It's a bit quicker that way. Thanks to forum member Micah for clueing me in on that.
  2. Kyle's Flinch Breaker 101, by Flexmoney. Good stuff there. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=82124&hl=%20kyle%20%20flinch&st=0
  3. I'd like to recommend a book. "The Talent Code" by Daniel Coyle. It's written for the lay person, I sure as hell am one, but it's very informative on why we practice anything at all. Kevin
  4. Got an ICORE club in your area? That gun is great for Classic Division ICORE.
  5. I went with Ready Tactical for my Model 10 stuff, here's the link. http://www.cpwsa.com/ready_tactical.htm Been really happy with it.
  6. I don't know what his load is, but here's a post from his blog at robleatham.com: "Happy to report – NO jams to date! However, it will not eject when I load 115 grains down to 900 FPS! This is a 103 power factor for you comp shooters! Yea, it was an experiment. I just loaded 115 grains over the same load of Tight Group as I’m using for the 147s. [...]" Seems like he's a Tite Group guy. You just my .02 but his pet load may not be your pet load. Guns differ. You might try contacting him at his website or on face book. I don't know how often he checks in here. Welcome home to your son and many thanks for his service
  7. These are the tools and parts I used, all from Midway. You'll need headspace gauges to install the new barrel as well. Keep in mind that any small shank Savage barrel will fit, short or long action. Small shank thread is 1.050. They do have large shank barrels that I believe are 1.125 thread diameter. I think just about all the barrel mfg's make pre fit barrels for Savages. I like Shilen, and Midway carries them in stock so it worked for me. This guy is a savage smith and parts mfg : sharpshootersupply.com. I've never done business with him, but he's been around forever. Hope this helps Kevin http://x2t.com/barrel http://x2t.com/wrench http://x2t.com/1/action
  8. 3.9 of Clays, 230gr bullet, 1.25 OAL. It shoots 176 pf in my 5" 1911. If you do some looking around you'll find that this is a pretty popular recipe. Kevin ETA just so we're clear. I mean regular Clays, NOT International or Universal.
  9. Just finished "The Little Book of Talent" by Daniel Coyle. It's his post-it notes from the research he did for "Talent Code". 52 very concise tips. I thought the "Talent Code" was outstanding, and this book might be better. I find myself going back to it frequently. Amazon link http://x2t.com/183009 Thanks Early IPSC and Brian
  10. I use 4.3 WSF with a 125gr Bayou. Avg. 1013fps.
  11. I thought the exact same thing, until Vlad schooled me on proper operation of a 550..... Care to elaborate on that? Always looking to use my press better. Kevin
  12. http://www.amazon.com/J.-Michael-Plaxco/e/B000APOWYU "Shooting from Within" by Plaxco maybe?
  13. The way the sub conscious fills in gaps for our conscious is a little scary to me. There's a great book called "Incognito" by David Eagleman. I found it fascinating, and frightening. I had no idea how much was going on behind the scenes, and how it affected my perception of "reality". You know like I coulda sworn I put two in that A zone, when I totally FTE'd. The brain's a pretty cool thing. "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell is good on that subject as well. I'm not sure this isn't a thread drift, sorry if it is. But CNN had an article the other day about the movie "Looper". I haven't seen it, but it's got time travel as an element. So they interviewed a physicist about the realities of that. Here's the interview Looper time travel One of the things the scientist said blew me away. I didn't know that they had to preadjust the atomic clocks in gps satellites so that they would still be relative to a clock on earth. The speed at which they're moving means a tick on the clock for the satellite is different from a tick on the clock here on stationary surface of the earth. So I googled it and got this gps clock differential Dude, I'm just a mechanic. This stuff totally blows my mind. But I don't think of time, or the passage of it in nearly the same way I did. If time can be affected by physical forces like speed or gravity then how finite or tangible is it anyway?
  14. Don't know what your situation is, but I bought one from these guys: http://www.zanottiarmor.com/safes.htm They have a model that is 25" wide. They're a little pricey, but at the time I bought mine I was living in an apartment. The ability to disassemble and move the safe myself has come in handy a couple of times. Outstanding customer service, and workmanship. When the guy in Iowa answers the phone, he's the guy who owns the place. I'm by no means a a safe expert, and I've never been broken into, so I have no evidence of their ability(thankfully). But I have some technical knowledge of metal fabrication. The precision of manufacture is really pretty good. I believe that these safes would withstand anything that a one piece safe would. Hope it helps, Kevin
  15. I don't have any long term data, but I've certainly subbed in SR and LR primers into pistol ammo when that's all I had. Not much difference over the chrono at all, like 20fps if that. Just my personal experience. Kevin
  16. I'm using Fed sp magnums right now. Only because that's what was available when I went shopping. No difference over my chrono from non-magnum primers. Kevin
  17. Glad everyone's ok! I had a '99 that I just loved.
  18. You definitely need to call Brian Enos. He's got some great info on his store website as well. He can set you up with the best combo to maximize overlapping components. Kevin ETA: just go up to the top left of this page and click on brianenos.com, lots of cross reference data there.
  19. They're both 100% in my SS, the ETM's just seat easier. Kevin
  20. My wife and I are in for a couple of those tickets. Thanks to both of you for doing this!! Kevin and Michelle
  21. YES!!!!! Very good point. Most of the people I've met at matches have come there from another competitive hobby. Interestingly enough a lot of them from radio control car/plane racing. Seems to be a very similar kind of scene, both from the competition and the amount of money required to compete. Kevin
  22. I agree with everyone above that you're never gonna see a flat primer before something else gives. I've got a load I use in revolvers and a T/C Encore that's pretty hot. A 230gr JHP doing 1178fps with 8.0 gr of WSF. It's a published load out of a Sierra manual for revo's only. But the primers still look fine, a little flattened but not much. Clark Custom Guns will make you a .460 Rowland conversion that runs that hot in a 1911, they install a comp to slow the slide down though. My point is the primer/case can take ALOT! So I agree with the above that you need a chrono to know what's going on, and a prudent/cautious approach when near the max of anything. I'd really be more concerned with the slide velocity and frame getting beaten up. Kevin
