  1. I have the LLV 6 on my Mark IV and if I had it to do again I'd buy the 4.5 inch. It swings faster. You no longer have to use the VQ comp. Anything will work. There are no pins to line it up. Buy your upper from Brownells and save a few bucks.
  2. I tried one on my 627 with an Allchin mount and liked it but I decided to replace it with a C-More Railway with a 12 minute dot. There is no weight added to the gun with the BFF-3 dot and mount,
  3. No only for the young but for anyone wanting to start without the added expense of holsters and mag pouches. Once you get started it's addicting
  4. Your dot will stay on target and move from plate to plate much more reliably. I use a Tandemkross Game Changer Pro on my Mark III.
  5. I don't like having to take a torch to my gun to remove a screw. I clean with brake cleaner and then use Blue Loctite. The screws never come loose.
  6. I check the internet on disposing of the peroxide/vinegar solution and found out that it is o.k. to simply flush it down the toilet or pour it into the sink. It's not of a heavy enough concentration to do any harm.
  7. I tried the Pam this week and could tell a difference. It last about 200 rounds and then needs another spray or accuracy diminishes. Cleaning the comp with MPro-7 is much easier after using Pam. I also have some Dillon Case Lube and got an atomizer bottle to try to spray that into the comp. Question for those using The Dip, how do you dispose of it when you are done? It's hazardous waist. Volquartsen recommends The Dip so I may give it another try, now that I know it peroxide and vinegar instead of ammonia. LOL>
  8. I've been amiss at cleaning the compensator on my Ruger Mark IV 22/45 with a Volquartsen LLV 6 barrel and the VQ new compensator. I've put thousands of rounds through the gun and never thought of cleaning the comp. With my old guns it seemed that all I needed to do was fire a few rounds of jacketed ammo and that helped get rid of the lead but never seemed to cake up. I tried using The Dip, a combination of Ammonia and Peroxide but it didn't work after sitting for five hours. I didn't want the comp to sit overnight in the solution so I pulled it out and was very disappointed in the results. l cleaned it up and then decided to try a different method. I dropped the comp in a jar with MPro-7 and let it sit for another 5 hours. This time I could see that the solution helped loosen up the carbon deposits. I then used a brass screwdriver to pick away at the lead. I finally got the comp to look like new and after reading a few posts I learned to spray the comp with Pam before shooting it again and after every 300 rounds. Today I shot 300 rounds of CCI-SV through the gun and after the session I had no buildup of lead. I guess I now have a new procedure to do when cleaning.
  9. I've been amiss at cleaning my compensator on my Mark IV with the Volquartsen LLV 6 barrel. Not being lazy but just not paying attention to it. My groups have been tighter but not tight enough. I Shoot CCI-SV most of the time and Blazer sometimes to practice. Today I decided to clean the compensator. I forgot I had a bottle of Wipe Out that worked real well last time. I tried Peroxide and Vinegar but it didn't really help. Using a brass screwdriver I chiseled out most of the buildup. I made a mistake and put the compensator on with Blue Loctite. It was a devil to get the comp off. My caregiver finally let me go to her house and use her vice which really helped. I got the locking bolt loose and was able to star working on the comp off of the gun which made it must easier. No more being laxed at cleaning and spraying Pam in the compensator before practice or a match. And I promised myself to clean the comp after every 1000 rounds. It doesn't take long if you don't have a huge buildup of lead.
  10. Check Brownells. They have a crowning tool for 11 degrees and 45 degrees. Not too expensive and works real well.
  11. I tried shooting at two of our local clubs but the grounds were covered with rocks and there is no way to maneuver a wheelchair around in them. I finally settled on Steel Challenge and have been enjoying myself. Times are no where near what I use to do but I'm having fun and am getting better each month. If ranges would grade their bays it would be easier for us handicapped shooters to participate.
  12. Shooting anything without eye protection is just STUPID.
  13. I have Apex and have used them for years with total satisfaction. Apex no longer works on revolvers so if I were to build another gun I'd check out the TK with hammer and trigger.
  14. I use the Guba Ribas holster for my revolver and have been very happy with it. It is very secure and I proved that by doing a back flip in my wheelchair and the gun stayed put. I also have one for my automatic. Great holster. Can be configured to any gun.
  15. Congratulations on making A. That's a difficult class to make. You should be proud.
  16. Temperature was just under 100 degrees today but really put me out. I had a devil of a time shooting the last 3 stages of our Steel Challenge match. I was overheated to the point of having Heat Stroke. I guess I'm getting too old to go out in the heat and compete. I drank 5 bottles of cold water throughout the morning and still needed to rehydrate once I got home. Unloading the car I had to sit in the garage for about 30 minutes before I could stand back up and walk into the house. I made the decision to postpone my match shooting until Sept or Oct when the weather should be better. Indoor shooting will be my Summer practice now.
  17. Just saw an ad on Facebook. Looks like Ernie is back in business under Ernie Hill Speed. I'm sure everyone's questions will be answered. Ernie is a great guy and always has had fantastic products. Lets all get behind him and wish him luck in this new adventure.
  18. When shooting how stiff are your arms? Are they locked solid at the elbow or do you have a loose hold?
  19. I too used the Revolver Supply Co. moon clips. I had enough to get me through any major match without having to worry about reloading no matter how many stages there were. It's a great company to do business with. I particularly like their moon clip loader, the Pocket Loader. Different arbors let it work with any size moons you have.
  20. I had my 29 converted to moon clips and shot .44 Russian from it. Low recoil and fast reloading with the huge bullet plus with a heavy bullet making major or minor is no problem.
  21. I went the same way as NoSteel . The Guba Ribas is a fantastic holster and very secure. I know this because I fell backwards in my wheelchair and the gun stayed locked in the holster. It's also very fast to draw from.
  22. Order the Cliemer reamer from Brownells and do it yourself. Works real easy. Get some cutting oil to go with the reamer instead of just using your gun oil. It will work much better.
  23. I shot my 617 at the last Steel Challenge Match and shot my fastest time to day. I just enjoy shooting revolvers. Trigger feels right to me and my timing is better than with the auto's. I had to give up centerfire guns but am really enjoying the .22s. I'm glad I kept my 617.
  24. You can adjust the Guba Ribas to fit any gun. That's a plus. It also has more adjustment for angle and for position from your body. I had to adjust mine so I wouldn't cover myself while sitting in my wheelchair. Using my Revolver G R I never had problems with the draw. With my .22 in the auto holster I don't have to draw it for speed but I've tried and have not had any problems.
