  1. I decided to replace my sights on my GSG 1911 22. I ordered a new sight from CW Accessories and they recommended using Red Loctite. This stuff is permanent. I miscalculated the sight position and had to move the sight. Well not an easy task. I should have used Blue which can be removed if needed. Try as I may I couldn't get the Red to budge. I used a heat gun and finally a butain torch to no avail. I burned the fiber optic out of the sight and then figured the only alternative was to push the sight out, order a new size and reinstall. I'm going to use Blue on the new sight. What have you used with success?
  2. We shoot all 8 stages with about 80 - 100 competitors and it only takes 3 hours. The tick seems to be squaddng 8 - 10 shooters per stage, and everyone helps. We don't get to paint between shooters all the time.
  3. If it isn't fun don't do it. Remember this is a game, not life so don't take it seriously. You are always better at something you love than something you are just doing because you have trained your mind to think you have to do it. Step back, reevaluate your goals and start from there.
  4. I did a lot of soul searching over the last year and found that in spite of the cost Eley Practice was working fine in my Ruger Mark IVs. Then, for giggles I tried Blazer again and it outshoots the Eley. I also get 100% reliability with it and it groups better than all but the expensive ammos. I bought two cases when it was $19.99 a brick and have enough for the next 6 months. Hopefully it will go back on sale before I get too low.
  5. Bob, glad they could help you. I know you will stick to the best plan you have. See you in October at the State.
  6. Well, as things would happen I broke my toy. You can't dry fire this gun like I do with my Rugers. I broke the firing pin. It took a few days to get the replacement from CWAccessories but I managed to install it with little effort. I also took out the Tandemkross Accurizing kit. It was so tight I couldn't even get off the barrel bushing without a wrench and lots of effort. Again CWA came through with the enhancement kit. I shot some more Blazer, some Aguila 40 grains at 1450 fps ( I forget the name of them ) and even managed to shoot 100 CCI-SV with no trouble. Next is a new sight from CWA. I like adjustables and not having to side them from side to side and replacing the front sight for elevation.
  7. Speed Sec was my favorite holster. Unfortunately someone liked it better than me and my dealer no longer handle it.
  8. TeedOff, I sure like that web site now but it's costing me a lot of money. This gun just screams to be upgraded. Fun to shoot stock but there is so much more I can do with it.
  9. Next upgrade, I found some + 4 followers and some + 2 base pads to increase my magazine capacity to 16 rounds. Who needs a 16 round mag for a .22? I sure hope I don't miss that much but it's great fun during practice. I may need new springs for the magazines so I ordered an extra set of those as well. I placed an order for a set of Bomar (copy) sights for the gun. I hate chasing the target with the plastic sights that come with it even though they gave me 4 extra front sights to adjust elevation. It's easier with adjustables and I didn't have confidence in the plastic sights. Since the gun is pretty much Colt compliant I even found a mount for my Vortex Viper if I decide to go that route. I'm having a lot of fun with this gun. If you want a cheap gun to practice with go for it, you won't be disappointed. I already have 3 Ruger Marks but this is quickly becoming my go-to for my shooting bag.
  10. A few weeks ago I was talking to my son about a new gun. He saw a GSG 1911 and was quite pleased with it. He told me that it was a copy of the Government Model and felt and looked like it. I read all the reviews on the internet and all seemed positive so I decided to check it out for myself. At my local LGS I found one in stock. Looking at it, it felt nice in my hands but the trigger was a bit heavy for me. It was 5 pounds and very crisp. I figured that it would smooth out after 1000 rounds and it did. I also ordered a Wilson spring for it that boasts bringing the trigger pull down to 3.5 pounds. That's just about what I like in my 1911s. Shooting it I fired 300 rounds of CCI Patriot ammo along with 500 rounds of CCI Blazer and was very impressed with the reliability. This gun, to me, is a keeper. I told my son I bought it. He was a little surprised so I told him to relax, he would be inheriting it to from me anyway. In the meantime I plan on firing it a lot and possibly added a number of available upgrades. There are no end because it is 80% compatible with a standard 1911. I already added + 2 base pads and ordered +4 followers to increase magazine capacity to 16 rounds. They also make +3 followers. That's the most I'm going to upgrade it for now. Right!!!
  11. After a few upgrades I took the GSG 1911 22 back out Friday for more testing. I had added the Tandemkross accurizing kit which includes a Stainless Steel 1 Piece Guide Rod ,Guide Rod Plug, Guide Rod Spring, Tapered Alignment Cap, Polished Match-Grade Barrel Bushing and Shock Buffer. This really tightened things up and gave me better groups.I used Blazers for this break in period because I had them and they have the same velocity as Mini Mags. They also shoot better in my guns than most .22 ammo. I guess thing became a little too tight because for the first 200 rounds I experienced a number of jams. Most were just that the hammer was not resetting, but it started working much better after those 200. Groups were excellent but I was shooting very high. I'm not a fan of non adjustable sights. I ordered a new Bomar look- a- like front and rear sight that should be in soon. I also ordered 5 new magazines, some +4 followers and base pads. I like tricking out my guns. When I tried to take it apart to clean it I had a devil of a time getting the slide to come off. After some mild coaxing with my plastic hammer it finally slid off to show a number of metal slivers on the rails. Glad I had lots of lubricants on the rails while shooting. I used a patch and got off more metal than I would have liked but I could see where it was binding and I think that after a few hundred more rounds it will be broken in.This is going to be one of my favorite guns. I did so well with it that I'm not going to bother putting optics on it and I've been shooting optics for the last 30 years. It is so much fun to shoot with the irons and I really felt that my concentration was on the front sight better than it's ever been. For under $ 300.00 it's a great alternative to the more expensive 1911 clones out there.Pictures to follow.
  12. I got to shoot mine today for the first time. 300 rounds of CCI Patriot loads, the Red, White and Blue ones. 100% reliability. It was so much fun to shoot I wish I had brought more ammo with me. I think I'm going to start shooting RFPI with it. I was just like shooting my old .445 only no recoil. I need to learn to get my hand on the grip safety better, I had a few instances where it wasn't depressed far enough and the trigger would not go off. Good test to see that the safety works. I did get rid of the magazine disconnect. Easy as pie. I've been shooting dots since forever. It was really nice shooting iron sights and actually hitting what I was aiming at. My focus was on the front sight and I had no problems loosing it.
  13. Just left the range and had a great time. It really feels great in my hand. I shot 300 rounds of CCI Patriot, the Red, White and Blue bullets. 100 % reliability. I think this is going to be one of my favorites to take to the range.
  14. While walking around at our local LGS I came upon an interesting little gun, a GSG 1911 22. It has the look and feel of a standard 1911 but in .22 and seems to be an excellent gun for practicing. Weight feels the same and magazines also feel like the standard ones. I think it would be an inexpensive way to practice for real shooting. Especially draws and mag changes. The recoil is still that of a .22 so firing isn't going to be realistic. I didn't think I would buy it but after checking it out, and seeing the price, I just had to take it home. I did read a number of reviews on the web and it looks like it will be fun to play with. It's 80% compatible with regular 1911 parts, except for the .22 features so new sights and a new Main Spring Housing look like a must. The housing is to get rid of the Magazine Disconnector making it California legal.
  15. Great shooting Bob. I knew you could do it. You are going to love the other match. Wonderful people there too. Good luck at the State Championship.
  16. Put a bore snake in your shooting bag and run it through the gun every 200 rounds. Problem solved. I shoot about 500 rounds per session with my 22/45 and don't have any perception of leading. I shoot CCI-SV and even Blazer with no problem. When I get home I do use a bore snake and MPro-7 to clean the barrel out. I also clean my compensator with 50% peroxide and 50% vinegar but I do that after every 1000 rounds.
  17. If Ruger can't help you get in touch with Wirtheinguns.com. He has just about every part you can think of.
  18. Using a C-More on my Ruger Mark IV 22.45 light the sight was about half way to the front of the rail. I have since switched to a Vortex Venom with 6 minute dot and hve it mounted on the dovetail with an EGW mount. The advantage, Easier to center targets, the dot appears larger. I was using a 12 minute dot on the C-More but the 6, up close seems to be about the same. I also like the battery life of the Venom. My C-Mores took a new battery every month while this sight has lasted me about 6 months so far.
  19. Notice nearly every shooter displayed in the video is using an Ernie Hill holster. Weren't they the good old days?
  20. Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite. Great for youths because it is very light. Very good for Steel Challenge. Transitions easier from target to target.
  21. I use a dip of 50% peroxide and 50% vinegar to clean my comp. After a few hours it will loosen up or if you have a sonic cleaner put this mix and your comp in a plastic container, put that in your sonic cleaner. I run my at 4 cycles of 4 minutes each.
  22. l've only had my dot go out once at a match and the match director was more than understanding and gave me enough time to mount two different dots that were also broke and then to sight in until I was satisfied. They let me go to a stage that wasn't being used and let me shoot at one target. A lot depends on time and the match director's attitude.
  23. I finally installed the Volquartsen Accurizing Kit after a shot period of time and got the trigger down to 1 1/2 pounds. I don't shoot this gun much because I enjoy the Mamba but now that the summer months are upon us and I won't be shooting Steel Challenge for the next few months because of the extreme heat (hell, I'm 68 years old and shooting from a wheelchair or walker depending on the day) I have to take care of my health and will wait until it's under 100 before I shoot again. Now's my time to practice with this gun. I love that it is so much lighter than my other one. It tracks from target to target with ease. Accuracy of the stock barrel isn't bad at all and I find the tightest shooting load to be Blazer so I won't bother shooting my Eley rounds out of this gun. The Allchin mount works well and the sound is loader than stock, good for the timer. Newest modification is a Dove-tail mount for my Vortex Vipers. I know, you have to take the sight off to replace that battery but I haven't seen a problem in getting the sight back on target when replacing it.
  24. I too like the Guba Ribas holster. I now use it for my 617 but was using it for my 929 and had no problems setting it up for either gun. Drawing was a breeze. Holstering was a little tricky for me becauwe I shoot from a wheelchair.
  25. I've used the stainless and they work fine in my gun. I've also had the blue and can't tell the difference.. Get the right ones for your brass, call and ask Tom for the ones that will fit Starline the best.
