I have never seen anything go MIA from any match. At IHMSA matches I've shot, I have seen guns, spotting scopes, and range boxes left in truck beds, at the clubhouse, and even left at the clubhouse overnight at a 2 day match. Shooters in general seem to have more integrity than the rest of society, IMHO...

Cool! So the Hammer and safety interchange, too?

I'm thinking about getting a Match in 45, and was wondering about internal parts interchangeability between the large and small frames... I've got some quality parts that I've been accumulating for years, and would like to put them to good use. I've got an Austin Behlert hammer/sear combo; and an EGW sear, WCP trigger, an EAA comp hammer, and Silver Team safety; all for the small frame Witness/P9. The hammer is .309" wide (7.85mm if you're from Norway) with a .144" pin, Sear is .500" wide with a .118" pin, Trigger is .324" wide with a .109" pin, Safety pin is .1555 thick and a touch over 1" wide. Anyone have the Match (large frame) parts they could compare? Also, are the slide stops interchangeable? And lastly, will an older "Supersight" fit in place of the factory fixed sight? All help is greatly appreciated.

Is there a primer in the cup when you return the handle forward? I have had debris get behind the primer bar, which stopped the bar from travelling rearward enough to let the primer drop from the tube.... If the press has never dropped primers, you may have to adjust the limet screw out till the primers release from the tube.

I hope anyone who is going through what you did finds this topic. Thank you for having the strength to share what you have learned from this. I wanted to send you a PM, but in light of the fact that you shared.... The only way to defeat cancer is to unite where it seeks to divide. I have lost much of my family, and a few close friends to the disease. Last year at this time, My Mom was admitted into a small Kansas hospital suffering from COPD and Atrial Fib. They gave her drugs and cookies, and were nice to her; and released her for Christmas with a relatively clean bill of health.... The end of May of this year, she went to another Doctor who ordered the Xrays from her "holiday 09" visit to the hospital. She showed the films to my Mom, (who was an RN with radiology, CT and other certs) if she saw anything on the 5 month old films. My Mom answered that she saw a classic asymetrical cancer tumor in the lung..... The initial doctor and radiologist obviously missed something that was unmistakeable. Further evaluation found that the lung cancer was not the primary cancer, but had matastisized from somewhere else; probably the pancreas; and it was too far along at that point to warrant testing or treatment. The lung tumor had grown through the chest wall and was now a large lump under her skin. After 3 months of fighting it, My Mom finally got her rest. I was lucky to be unemployed at the time, and was able to make 2 extended trips to be with her. The time I got to spend with her was priceless to me, and from what I've heard since, was priceless to her as well. I can only imagine how strong she had to be to deal with the hopelesness of this whole situation, and I had no idea that I had helped at all. I can't imagine loosing my wife, so I can't pretend to know how you feel. But Christmas has been known to heal wounds. Resist the temptation to be alone for introspection, and spend as much time as you can with people, even people you barely know.... Don't do it for yourself, but for them. Things will get better, perhaps not as fast as we want them too, but they will. And I hope you can take some comfort that somebody you never met is praying for you, Brother!

I bought my P9 from a guy on this board. Seems I gave around $700 for it and a bunch of extras. Something didn't get disclosed when he sold it to me, however... It was NOT a standard P9 LS, instead I cycle the slide and find out it was a World Cup. The World Cup is in a whole 'nother league in quality. They are (were) hand assembled and fitted in the Springfield Custom Shop. They had cone comps, were hard chromed, and were ready for competition out of the box. And the last MSRP was $2935, if that gives you an idea in the difference in the WC. If it is indeed a World Cup, buy it!! I'd suggest leaving it as a 9x21, as they are hand fitted and extremely accurate guns... They were based on the small frame Tanfoglio, so 38 super is out of the question. 170mm mags are hard to find, but other parts are still available for them.

I had a King Cobra in 357, and was underwhelmed. It had a larger, stronger frame than the Pythons, but it lacked the fit and finish. To me, an old Python is like a peice of Americana, a finely tooled and finished peice of art, the result of the work of a craftsman. They are wonderful to hold, and when you pull the trigger on one, it's all that history and tradition that guides the bullet!! Colts are very seldom seen on the silhouette circuit, as they don't stand up well to the abuse. The lack of parts available for them would put them out of the running for any kind of competition, in my experience.

That thread about says it all. I have seen 1100's with fatigued mainsprings that have battered the receiver. We all change the recoil springs in our pistols at regular intervals, but many of us have never changed the recoil spring in our SGs!!

Safe gun handling being paramount, I could see an infraction being issued even if shooting in air was expressly allowed. At a club level match some years back, my feet slipped out in front of me on the wet grass while deccelerating to step into the shooters box. While I was falling, I twisted my body to keep my muzzle pointed towards the berm (with my finger out of the trigger, of course) and bounced right into the box. I took my shots with my ass and left elbow planted in the middle of the box and my feet in the air outside the box. As awkward as this sounds, It was deemed safe by the RO, and my shots counted since they were fired from the shooting box, no part of my body touched outside the box, and the gun was always in control and pointed safely downrange. No competitive advantage was gained by this particular manuever, however...

I was a member before the current BS user policies. Like it or hate it, paypal (and it's owner, ebay) are the 900 pound gorrillas in their respective fields. I have adopted my own policy, that all funds received via e-bay or paypal are re-distributed only to pro second amendment merchants!!

I've got probably 25 pounds of walnut, and 15 pounds of corncob on the shelf collecting dust. I tried dryer sheets, even dampened them a bit, but couldn't get away from the dust walnut makes. As for corn cob, I found a lump of polish encrusted media inside a 223 casing, and didn't like the idea of inadvertantly reducing internal case volume, either. I tried rice once for kicks and giggles, and never went back to other media. The only drawback is that it likes to stick in empty primer pockets, and is harder to pick out than corn cob.

I didn't see where you stated your model #. If it has the same ejector setup as the 686, 687, or 682, you have an easy out. With both hammers down, pull the forend without breaking the action. Remove the forend iron, and if the ejectors are coil spring driven, simply replace the coil springs with a set of lighter springs. Save the factory ejector springs in case you want to some day change back. I have done this with my Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon, my Browning 525 and Sporting Clays SE. Works like a charm once you get the springs tuned, and as a side benefit, the gun will close easier.

Among the cheap guns you've looked at, the ugliest is the best. The Remington SPR310 (Baikal IZH27) is a good buy for the money. The fit and finish on these guns is not what you'd find on a Browning or Beretta, but they are durable and dependable. Out of the box they are functional, but with a little tweaking are a joy to shoot. There is a forum at Shotgunworld that contains many good tips and tricks on tweaking these guns. Check it out here.The Mossbergs, CZ's, and other Turkish guns have a history of spotty metalurgy and bad firing pins. I had looked at the DeHaans, which are upgraded versions made by the same company as the rest of the Turkish guns (Huglu). I have not owned any of the Turkish guns, but If I was going to buy one, it'd be a DeHaan. (They come with an extra set of firing pins, the weak link in the Turkish guns) Some other good buys in budget o/u's are the Lanbers, Veronas, and Yildiz guns. The only reason I sold my SPR310 was because it didn't fit me. I shot it in all different conditions, and the only FTF I ever had was due to lack of cleaning. If one could be had for under $400, and it fits you, you would not go wrong buying it. The SPR310 has mechanical triggers, selective extractors/ejectors, an auto safety that is easily disabled, and the chokes are the Colonial Tru-Choke .795x44TPI double lead thread. That being said, I purchased a Browning Sporting Clays Special Edition and a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon, both for under a grand each. Good buys are out there on the used market. If you can pony up the extra dough for a better quality used gun, do it. But don't let a lack of expendable cash keep you from enjoying the clays games. Buy the best you can afford before the start of the shooting season, and get out and break some clays!! Good luck on your search!

Talk about extreme weather, you can sample it all in Southwest Kansas ........ Tornados, hail (up to softball size), heat that seemed to me more uncomfortable than Mesa's, cold that comes pretty close to Wisconsin, and I saw one thunderstorm that rivaled Hurricane Elouise (I was right in the thick of that one near Panama City, FL). Not to mention the constant wind. I can't blame anyone for wanting to get the hell outta Dodge, and I'm sure glad I did!

I sent the following Email to Sen. Russ Decker, Democrat, who voted for SB 403: "Senator Decker, After much study involving the effects of concealed carry on violent crime, I ask you for your vote to override Governor Doyle's veto of the personal protection act. Wausau has seen it's violent crime rate increase over 300% from 1994 to 2005 (source: Wausau Daily Herald, Jan. 20 2006). Despite their best efforts, the police simply cannot control violent crime. And criminals prefer unarmed victims. The presence of a firearm in a law abiding citizens hand has proven to stop violent criminals in their tracks. And usually without a shot ever being fired. This concept seems difficult for Doyle to grasp. However, no state that has enacted a concealed carry law has had reason to repeal it. There is not one hard fact to support Doyle's claim that concealed carry will, or has, increase violent crime. Please continue to do your part to allow your constituents to protect themselves if necessary, and vote to override Doyle's senseless veto. Thank you" Lets hope for the veto override!
