    11-87

I have had 2 11-87s, and the only problem I had was low quality replacement o-rings (the gas seal) I clean the gas system once a year and carry an extra o-ring in my wallet. (be careful who sees the imprint on the outside of your wallet!) Mark
  2. Greetings, I called the guy with the AMT, and he sold it this weekend. Oh well, you snooze you looze. Thanks for the info though. Who else makes inexpensive longslides? (6" or 7" barrel) I may have to go long for limited.
  3. Eric W, You may be right about Rush. I will be praying for them! At least I chose a tune with no lyrics! You know, except for "Passage to Bankok" they really were kinda wholesome! And in thier portrayal of Good vs. evil, good always won. "Art as expression, not as market campaigns, will still capture our imagination" If you"re open minded, and like the heavy stuff, download mp3's of the stuff on my Christian list.
  4. I have a chance to swap for an AMT Hardballer Longslide. It has adjustable sights and the 7" barrel. The guy wants $300, and it's in good shape. It seems I heard sometime back that the gun jams. What is the story with it? Does the AMT have feeding issues? Are standard 1911 parts interchangeable? Are they descent guns? Any help is appreciated, ~Mark
  5. Hmmm, has anyone sampled these? Christian: Disciple, God of Elijah POD, Southtown Pillar, Petting Zoo Disciple, Turmoil Project 86, One armed man Holy Soldier, Promise Man Secular: Dixie Dreggs, Road Expense Rush, La Villa Stragiato Joe Satriani, Satchmo Boogie Ronnie Montrose and Gamma, Four Horsemen
  6. OK, I like show and tell.... Open: Para steel frame lower, Caspian slide, Wilson bushing type barrel and 2 port comp, Aimpoint 5000 with the big dot, on a Weigand carbon fiber mount. (gets you long time IPSC guys reminiscing, doesnt it?) Skate tape front and rear strap, Frame, comp and mag base pads finished with Brownells Teflon Moly in parkerizing grey-ugliest color imaginable. Ernie Hill Fast track with a Safariland in/out belt and 3 773 pouches. 2-20 round mags, 2-18 rounders. Limited: Witness small frame lower with a Witness P 40S&W large top end (made to work), blued, Hougues, Gold team safety. Has SA trigger, goes boom at 1 1/2 lbs with no creep. Carried in a Ernie Hill, with 773 pouches, on an old duty belt...... IDPA: Witness Target ported, wonder finish. Has 9mm unported barrel in place of the 40S&W ported barrel, in the stock ported slide. This is legal for IDPA. Has Hougues, oversize safety, adjustable sights. This one shoots like a new gun, very tight frame to slide fit, very smooth, it got me sold on the Witless. Carried in a Galco Yaqui slide, with generic leather mag pouches. I have a slight vision problem, can see either one sight, OR the target. You just have to point the Witness and the bullets hit the target. And I'm new to this game! The eye doc says with my eyes forming cataracts, I should be shooting with the red dot. I can't be deteriorating. I havent grown up yet!!
  7. Bseevers- Are there any of the powders I have on hand that would be any better? The last (first) loading I had for the 147 gr. XTP was 6.8 gr. of N350 at 1.270 OAL. They chambered well, allthough I shot less than 100 before I ran out of N350. I thought I would experiment with what I have, but I dont want to ruin a barrel in the process. Why is AA7 bad on barrels? Vhit may be the best bet, but it may be a while before I can get more. As for OAL, I have been running on the long side. 1.260 to 1.270, since I dont have a Chrono and dont want to raise pressures. Hopefully my RO will remember his chrono this weekend, and I can test my loadings. Thanks guys for the replies.
  8. That is close to the load I got from the guy who sold me my gear. I dont know how to get the right OAL. It would seem to me that the critical part of the OAL would be how far the bullet sets back in the case. The OAL wouldnt be correct between lead and the XTP, but could I use load data for other brands of 147 grain HP? Would the boat tail on the XTP make a difference?
  9. I picked up some 147 grain Hornady XTP BTHP at a price I couldn't pass up. I was shooting 124 gr. in the past. I checked Jeff Maass's page, not many choices for the 147 gr. XTP. I have Accurate #7, HS6, Blue dot, and Clays. I am shooting a Para with a Wilson barrel and 2 port comp. Any pet loads anyone would care to share? (Edited by Madmark at 11:58 pm on Nov. 4, 2002)
  10. All true, but you cant buy commercially loaded ROCK SALT rounds.....(oops, my hillbilly side is coming out) ~Mark
  11. I am shooting a Para with a SS Caspian slide, Wilson 2 port comp and an Aimpoint 5000 on a Weigand carbon fiber mount. I sold one gun and swapped another to make it happen. It came with brass, dies, loaded ammo, Ernie hill holster, etc. The gun was pretty ugly, and WAY loose, But my R.O. said it all at the end of my first stage with the gun. He announced that I had finally shot a whole magazine without a malfunction, and started the round of applause...... Three coats of Brownells teflon/moly to all friction points, and you can hardly hear it rattle when I draw!! I gotta admit, old tech was cool.
  12. My first open gun was purchased over the internet. The guy who sold it to me certainly didn't miss it. I sold my first 1911, a wonderfully built Sringfield, and a Para P14 LDA so I could purchase an old, ugly Para 38 super open gun. The pain of parting with a couple of nice guns was made bearable by replacing them with something I wanted more.
  13. This is what is posted on the classifieds, "Based on critique from regular users and supporters of be.com, the Classifieds Forum is now limited for use by members with 100+ posts. This should keep internet transients from posting yard sales on be.com. (Clever wording complements of EricW.) Thanks to all! be " It seems we have two seperate issues here: #1= Commercial advertising on Brians forums, #2 as Eric said "internet transients posting yard sales" I spoke up because honestly I felt my Oct. 27th post was the closest thing to a yard sale on that particular page. But everything listed is from my personal collection, and is priced slightly lower than what I paid. Selling so I can get a 170mm mag for my Para. What a nice thought! Your post was titled "Personal Promotion" and I agree with your original thought. But I dont see how going over the 100 post mark makes you a more responsible or acceptable member. Maybe I dont understand the philosophy of the classifieds, but I thought it was for private sales between members? Maybe someone can enlighten me. Thanks,
  14. Thanks, .75time. I have been using the forums for around 1 1/2 years. There is an abundance of knowledge here. For guys like me shooting antique equipment, we live by the Gunsmithing forum. I cannot afford to have anyone do my work for me so I have to glean info where I can. And the classifieds provide a way to raise funds to improve the equipment. Only $2800 to go and I will have a new open gun!! It just seems to me that not enough people use it. Stuff like eerw just posted would be a goldmine if I could use it. But we cant cater to me.......
  15. OK Eric, Since you brought up waiting periods, and I'm on a rant anyway...... In my county, there are no waiting periods for firearms transfers. In Wichita KS, the closest major city to me, they enacted one a few years back. I was at a gun show in Wichita when a news camera trained on me. I was approached by a reporter who asked my feelings on the waiting period. I explained that I moved to KS partly because of the access to hunting and shooting land. However, we have no gun shop in my county, so most purchases were made in Wichita. That leaves me traveling 6 hours round trip to buy a firearm. When the trip must be repeated 5 days later, you have effectively made the purchase unreasonable. And it appeared to me that responsible sportsman were being penalized for the actions of others. Well, I walked off, silently thanking God that I had chosen my Ducks Unlimited Cap to wear that morning, instead of my "kill them all" hat. A little while later I was walking into the mens room, the camera man hits me with a "Hi Mark, how ya doin" like he has known me all his life. So I told him I was wondering how he was doing, and I asked if they were covering the gunshow seeking to put a positive spin on things, or what....He replies, oh, I dont know, probably not. He stated that he didnt know anything about guns, so the waiting period was OK by him. He was a young guy, early 20's with long hair and a Zildijan cymbal T-shirt on, so I explained that I didnt care for the government intrusion into my hobbies. They had got in the middle of the music industry, and won the first part of the censorship battle by putting parental advisorys on music. He squirmed and agreed. I stated that there was a lot of sides to every story, and the gun issue was one story that gets a lot of one sided press. As he followed me out of the mens room, in front of us sat a man in a wheelchair. I said to the cameraman, "what about that man. We dont know his circumstance, but maybe he is low income, and has to live on the wrong side of town because its all he can afford. What if he gets threatened with death by the local thugs who dont want him around. Can he run? can he protect himself? If he could carry a firearm, it would serve as a deterrent to the thugs who seek to do him harm. But he has to wait 5 days before he can pick up his pistol. Do you think the police will be there to protect him whenever he comes and goes?" The cameramans head was half bowed and shaking no as he imagined the scenario." And there are those who think thats the only use for handguns", I said. "This man is in a wheelchair, so we can never compete on the basketball court, football field.... we can't even play hacky sack! But we could go to the Bullet Stop shooting range and compete in thier Glock league. And he would be equally competitive." My young friend was now looking at the man in the wheelchair, and thinking how a seemingly smart measure like handgun controll is not always smart. He grabbed my hand and said, "Dude, I would never have even considered those things!" And we said goodbye and parted, he to his Media friends, I to my gun buddys. Sometimes we dont think of how our actions affect others. But I feel us shooters have to stick together if we hope to see the shooting sports continue. There, one post closer to 100! ~
  16. Ooooooooh, A waiting period imposed by fellow handgunners, that hurts. But you never even checked my background! An exclusive club is an exclusive club, it excludes, that's what it does......... I still wonder where it will lead..........~Mark
  17. Since I just posted in the "hate" section..........my conscience got the best of me. I am new to this game, I am unskilled, my equipment is old and very worn, I have frequent breakdowns that sometimes lead to DNF's, I have Church responsibilitys (thank You Jesus!) that often make me late, BUT MY CLUB MEMBERS WELCOME ME!!!!!!!!! Thanks to JJ POWELL (ug lee)and JOHN HAIRFORD for helping and encouraging myself and any other new shooters who happen along. These men set up 3 to 5 GOOD stages 2 times a month, usually for 3 or 4 shooters total. Thanks to SCOTT ROLLINS for trying to make a bad situation better, and teaching me which end of the screwdriver to pry on the gun with, and which end to hammer. Thanks to SAM KNIGHT for helping me get started in open by giving me a great deal on my equipment(the Para is still working!) Thanks to ADAM BENSON for the advice and encouragement, And a big thanks to those who keep this site running.
  18. Hey!, I resemble that "yard sale" remark posted in the classifieds! To be totally honest, I was hoping to swap a pile of dusty metal for a rediculously large pile of crisp cash. My Story: I am a small town contractor. I sell things when I want something new, or need to pay bills. I am new to this IPSC/IDPA game, and have found it expensive. I like it however, because with my vision, I NEED a red dot! I live in a town of 574 people,(honest) and the 14 shooters in town already have everything I have, and nothing I need. I drive 3 hours round trip to shoot IPSC in a slightly bigger town that doesnt even have a gunshop. Every piece of equipment I own (except for 1 belt and 3 mag pouches) is somebody elses cast offs, because I can't afford better.(when I can, I will purchase it from B.E., of course!!) I have bought much used equipment from the classifieds. I would hate to see people (including me!!) banned from selling their personal items because of lack of posts. This forum is a valuable asset to people like myself. The club where I shoot usually has 2 or 3 other shooters besides myself. Not exactly a storehouse of knowledge there... (sorry JJ, sorry John) I use these forums daily. My use of the forums at my experience level is probably best left to me READING the forums, instead of posting the redundant questions that already exist on the forums, or giving opinions on what I know little about. You got me backed in a corner here people. My intellect and wisdom is not on par with yours, but even I can figure out that requiring a certain number of posts from someone to be a member of the "club" will probably not have a positive effect on the quality of content posted on the page. I agree with the thinking about commercial ventures using up bandwidth for their gain, but there will be others hurt by the 100 post rule. (Edited by Madmark at 1:43 am on Nov. 2, 2002)
