  1. Maybe I wasn't too clear, but just to try...the 1911 was designed for the 38 super and then 45...IMHO all others are suspect or at least just "not right " in my mind <flame on> I think the issue is...no I'd better wait for someone smarter than me to reply...shouldn't be too hard...there are many here on BE who can tell the real story of barrel length, pressure, mechanics...I just stayed at a Holiday Inn once...not even an Express. FWIW - Wilson makes them in 9mm, 40, 45 and 38 super. I just can't get my mind around the other cals in a 1911. To go one step more I think the SS class should be all .45's <more flames?> Good luck and enjoy the journey!
  2. I had a good friend in high school who raced real go karts...and you really would NOT want to race against him in a car...that thing was FASSTTT...SCARY FAST
  3. From what I have learned, the 1911 isn't well suited to barrel lengths <4". IIRC the EMP was re-designed "from the ground up" for the 9mm and I haven't had the chance to play with one. I found out the hardway with a Springfield Micro-compact. I liked the size but it was too unreliable for me. I did the normal things needed - polished feed ramp, etc but never felt it was something I could really count on...and that was with standard hard ball ammo even. After having the brass pound me in the forehead time after time I soon tired of the gun. I'm sure many of the issues I had could have been worked out but my mind was set...it had to go. I have now gone off the deep end the other way and bought a WC 5"...no issues...and for the price there shouldn't be but as far as any 1911 < 4" barrel I'm leary. I'm sure others here can give you a more technical reason, but that was my experince when going small. YMMV
  4. ...and the dyson is tacti-cool too...in coyote brown
  5. Nice sheet Sky! If you "highlight" the column headers (bullet, oal, etc) then go to Data:Filter:AutoFilter you'll get little "down" arrows which let you select the data by a specific paramenter...eg. under Bullet Style you can select JHP and it will return just data relating to jacketed hollow points. That may be my favorite feature in Excel.
  6. I sense a competition brewing...factory only - no mods, hi-caps add-ons or comps...
  7. Is there a HEPA rated Kirby? I knew I wanted HEPA before I knew about the dyson. And yes the plastic is...well...plasticy. But I'm hoping for the best and they are still 1/3 the cost of a kirby IIRC. I wonder what parts are breaking? Just so I know to be careful. I've always figured that this is what I really need: http://www.nikro.com/mold_remediation/hepa...red_vacuums.htm
  8. wouldn't you want all the load factors...oal, weight, etc ETC: just asking because I'm a new loader and thought about that myself.
  9. Now that is something I'd pay to see... -------- +1 on the Dyson animal I can't believe I paid that much for a vacuum but really is worth it. It is HEPA rated which I "believe" as much as any others claiming HEPA - but I digress. It doesn't start my allergies and doesn't "smell" when using it as many just re-entrain the dirt back into the air. My friends think I've lost it (the one who didn't already) but I can't say enough good about the thing...must stop telling everyone. It does an excellent job and is fairly ergo too. The handle pulls out to make a wand the get into cracks and such...very simple. Heck I even like to use it. Now I have to go...and uhhh...change oil in car, load ammo or something a little more manly...
  10. ++1 Bell used to have an ad that read "If you have a $10 head then buy a $10 helmet". Don't skimp.
  11. Nice Rev! You'll do fine on the metric century (62 miles). Remember is isn't a race... Be sure you have plenty of air in tires too. (overlooked many times and REALLY adds drag) Take plenty of food and drink...be sure you try your fuel before the big day. That isn't the time to discover that bar-x makes you puke. Is the flat spot on top of the tread or on the side wall? If it is on the side wall you've got a brake dragging and that is bad and can lead to catastrophe. Either place - make sure threads aren't showing. You'll be amazed with the clipless pedals for the amount of power you be adding to your stroke but remember your stroke is tiny circles and not mashing up and down...I still have to remind myself somedays. Think scrapping mud off the bottom of your shoe as you come around the bottom of your stroke. I need to get a bozo jersey too... Congrats on your progress!
  12. "Been on Cnl. 68 aka Outdoor/VS. for the last two weeks non-stop angry.gif No shooting , hunting , or fishing shows and only a small bit of MMA shows - just to watch a bunch of over-age juvvies ride their friggin bicycles around wacko.gif " It can be a bit difficult to understand all the finer strategic points but over all it is an amazing race...oh and this isnt the only race these guys do but just one of many tough/long races...they just did the Giro d'italia a few weeks ago not to mention the Vuelta Espana. Really though they do have to be freaks of nature to do even one of those races to completion...but as we all know, if they were real men they'd be riding off road
  13. I disagree with this part even pros drop footballs...strike out looking...etc. This was the 7th stage of a 98 degree day...actually the bank display said 99 when I left town...I dare say none of us were at the top of our game mentally by that point. And while I don't really know roxy other than shooting in his squad all day, I can say this wasn't intentional. I think he was as shocked as anyone. Again the other SO didn't just walk up say say "hey man that was an FTDR" He YELLED ranting about rules and it being a game, blah blah making quite a display...This was while wearing his bright red SO hat...maybe the heat was cooking his brain too. Maybe I just don't like strutting roosters. It seems to me that there are many rules that have to be assessed quickly and with the discretion of the SO...its a human game...just like the ump he makes a call and that is it - like it or not. just my 0.02 Still great match.
  14. As for the other SO...the way he acted is why new shooters don't come back. As a new (paid membership at the match today) idpa shooter I can't comment on the FTDR rule, but I have an "expert" opinion on the other SO. Not only did it seem inappropriate to chime in, but he was load and rude about it...and it made am impression for sure but only for him NOT the sport or club. We all know this guy. We never met but our introduction was informative enough. I don't ever want to squad with that dude. Now I wish I had gotten his name so I would know which squad to dodge. Everyone else I encountered was very helpful and congenial...maybe if EVERY one was like that guy...but that was far from the case. As I always heard - it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and prove it... I really enjoyed the match and thanks for all the help today guys!
  15. Pretty sure you can join at the match via Lin Edwards if you want to and get classified the same day. If your shooting your .40 trojan you would be shooting in ESP and can load 10+1, with the .40 I think 9+1 is as high as you can go though and still fit the box. Anyway let me know if you need anything, hell look for me and try to get on my squad! Thanks I'll try to catch you there. I'll be the guy without a vest...but I'm thinking about cutting off the sleeves of a work shirt I got chili on last week. I don't suppose there are bad style points? My Trojan is .45 so 8+1...I may have a hard time not changing mags on the run
  16. i'm thinking about coming down but i'm a uspsa shooter and don't have idpa membership. should I join tonight online? would I get a number so I could do the classifier too and get the points/classification? I'll be shooting single stack whichever class that is in idpa. joel
  17. FWIW I have a Leupold CQ/T that I'm selling for $600...used obviously...I'm going to stick with my aimpoint or irons. I like the CQ/T esp. the way the reticle works and it is much sharper than reticle in the eotech or aimpoint but I don't do much distance shooting. ymmv
  18. I've always wondered what trumps a tree. I guees he brought a palm tree to a stool fight... We call them ID 10 T - types in the nerd-biz...or maybe "12 oclock flashers" - VCR reference
  19. Thanks for the info Ken. Be sure to keep us posted on dates etc. We have rifle side matches after uspsa matches and they are very cool to do after shooting the COF with your pistol. I've never traveled too far with mine but I'm sure there are plenty in TX... Good luck
  20. I also have the motorola 9Qm and it is pretty nice...and Verizon has them for $79 last I checked...probably depends on package, phase of moon etc. I actually got mine free on upgrade, blah blah blah...I can easily check my gmail with it too...it doesn't have a "_" key which made it hard to log into BE.com...Flex took care of me there tho...thanks Flex! The one thing that the Iphone won't do...is pic messaging...or at least my buddy can't figure it out if so. Great for surfing and looking cool though :-) ymmv
  21. Now THAT sounds like big fun! I'm jealous. +1 uh...right you are ...doh
  22. He seems to be using a vertical fore grip. IIRC, a vertical fore grip is an NFA BIG no-no anyway...not 'cause they are dangerous to the shooter though. I think that bumps you up to class III weapon or at the least an AOW wrong or not - I did chuckle a bit
