  1. VV 320 seems to be accurate with a 200 grn molycoated bullet, my standing groups at 25 yards are 2-3" I hate to say it but if you are getting those poor of groupings @ 15, I would say it is time for a new barrel, or at least make sure the one you have is properly fit.
  2. hhhmmm. Good question Nolan. I change it when I can feel the slide speed change. The gun shoots different when a spring is ready to be retired. This usually takes a year or two. I do have a "special" spring that I use for matches, it should last me a decade or so.
  3. Cool, now how is that gonna help your shooting?
  4. Nik, I'm with Erik, unless the stage states the "reload only using your strong/weak hand" then use both. From the description you gave that would be perfectly legal. When you are reloading you are not engaging targets.
  5. Taken from the local paper: Cougar enters Bend resident's apartment Published: June 4, 2003 By Lisa Rosetta The Bulletin When Linda Bertolani lets her cat out at night, she leaves the front door cracked open so her pet can creep back in at his pleasure. On Sunday night, a cougar also used the entrance and announced with a high-pitched scream he was in her kitchen, she said Tuesday. The cougar had snuck into her apartment at the 61000 block of Blakely Road near Fred Meyer's, she said, and it had her 16-year-old Himalayan cat, Sebastian, dangling from his mouth. "You should have seen his (Sebastian's) fur flying," Bertolani said of her feline companion who's recovering at home. She reported the incident to the Bend Police Department and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, but the cougar leapt across a fence and vanished before authorities arrived, Bertolani said. "It's just not like a regular cat," she said. "I just wanted people to know they're on the prowl." Corey Heath, a Deschutes Wildlife District biologist, said no other cougar sightings in the area have been reported since Bertolani's call. Cougars are most likely to be sighted in the fall or winter months, he said. The last sighting before Bertolani's was three weeks ago in the Deschutes River Woods, he said. In most instances, cougars, which have home ranges of more than 30 miles, are gone by the time an agency responds. In rare cases the cats may be relocated, Heath said, but most often they are destroyed if they're a threat to human safety. While cougar sightings are fairly common, reports of attacks on humans are not, he said. Homeowners who feel imminently threatened can legally destroy the animals during hunting season — Jan. 1 through May 31, and Aug. 1 through Dec. 31 — if they have a hunting permit with a cougar tag, Heath said. A cougar may also be shot if it kills livestock, he added. If residents run into one of the cats unprepared, they should follow a few basic guidelines to ensure their safety. "Immediately at the encounter, what you don't want to do is turn and run," Heath said. "That triggers their chasing instinct." The wildlife biologist said the best course of action is to stay still and try to scare the big cat away by making noise, throwing rocks or waving around a coat. (I say shoot the dang thing, screw the making noise and throwing rocks!!!)
  6. Skeeter, If you throw a miss and don't make it up you didn't call your shot. The only way to effectively make up shots is to know you missed your target immediately in the first place. The great shooters generally shoot all the targets, they seldom skip targets for time.
  7. h4444 if the stage was long say 150 points you would have to shoot the stage 8 seconds faster if you wanted to take misses on the star.
  8. Arrendondo They sell covers, you can wear a long coat and put it over your gun. I like the simple solutions the best.
  9. Go for A's accept C's and make-up D's Remember folks the scoring is simple points/time = HF If there aren't a lot of points to start off with, you better get most all of them. IE. El Pres 60 points (all A's) in 6 Seconds = HF 10 55 point (7 A's and 5 C's) in 5.5 seconds = HF 10 If you can take the extra .5 and get all A's (.04 per shot) everytime or go .5 faster and occasionally get a miss or D's which would you do? Field course worth 130 points 130 points in 15 seconds (all A's) = HF 8.6666 120 points in 13 seconds (A's and 10 c's) HF 9.2308 On longer courses of fire where you can engage targets on the move you can afford to accept a few C's if you can gain some time by taking shots that are harder to call (shooting on the move) then it isn't worth the time to get "All A's"
  10. Not to rain on the splits aren't important parade (I know HITS are much more important than splits), but I do think it is good to take a look at them every now and again because it can show you your level of relaxation and focus. A yardstick, if my splits are slow I am tense and being overly aggressive, tense and unfocused, if they are quick, smooth and consistant, then I am shooting in a good state of mind.
  11. 3.9 VV with a 200 grn bullet loaded to 1.190 is my magic load for my limited blaster.
  12. Limcat Firing pin Try the Federal, I shot Winchester for years but ran into a hard batch it really sucked, and cost me a few matches. I have been told I am not the only one to have had this problem with Winchester. The Limcat firing pin seems to work well.
  13. Ditto to Jon. Also. check the mainspring weight. a 15lb might work most of the time, a 17 should work all the time. Primers, Federal are the softest, I have had problems with Winchester.
  14. If you have enough money, you can do most anything to your gun.
  15. Yes, but if I know I have to leave my index to shoot in a wierd spot I know during the walkthrough, and I just close my left eye for those shots. I use the thumb tip of the finger trick to make sure what my shots will look like before hand to see what my sights should look like for each shot. For most shots, the head gun relationship, is pretty close to the same. For me the trade off is worth it. I used to cover my whole left eye, but I found that using the smaller piece makes me focus on form a bit more, and I shoot better if I can keep my index intact and I get better overall visual input from the smaller piece.
  16. It definitely helps with the spring noise (yuk) and it worked fine on my bolt/carrier.
  17. Brian, About the non-transparent tape and for me it has to be black. You DON'T want to wear it all day. I switch glasses one shooter before I shoot. I also use as small of a piece as I can get away with, located on the lense so it blocks only my front sight with my left eye. It basically creates a blind spot. I find that if I use black I don't even notice the tape at all when shooting. The transparent tape to me was very distracting because I could see it, the black you don't really see after a few minutes.
  18. Shooting sports are all a game, so shouldn't we all be gamers?
  19. Mistral, In the real world where the goverment is taking 50% of everything we make by taxes, licenses, and fees I think that there are very few (not just shooters) that wouldn't take the $$$ over praise.
  20. Skywalker, Actually, I used logic instead of math to solve this one. There was ONLY one place that the dad could be that the equation could prove.
