Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Hey thanks guys. I almost never do this sprayfest. Most of my shooting is done between 7-15 yds. Unfortunately, most of it is done in an indoor range where I'm not allowed to shoot more than 1 target . Other than our local 'matches' I try to get out to the boonies once a month to do some different drills (mult targets). The big things I'm working on now are draw, reload and always seeing my sights. I hope to be able to start actually calling my shots. Improvement is slow tho.
  2. L2S, I'm surprised myself that my finger apparently moves quickly. It doesn't even seem superfast when I do it. I play alot of video games...maybe pounding on the mouse helps . I wish games would improve my accuracy and transitions. I'll have to pay attention to my target transitions as till now I've been focused on other stuff. I have a feeling they're pretty bad tho . Spending too much time on reloads I think. Looking at the time in the reload thread, I'm catching up to the A/B guys at about 2.5 for a good time and an avg of 3. Of course, my last 'match' I chucked a mag 30 across the room .
  3. "...the close yardage hose mode stuff is probably what holds a lot of newer shooters back. " This is probably true, cause as far as this goes my splits avg slightly faster than yours (.10-.12) with say 90% As. At this range, I focus almost entirely on not yanking the trigger and I still blink/flinch enough that I don't see the sights shooting this fast. My best split times with good hits at 7-10yds run to almost 1/2 sec. I gotta get rid of the blinking. Happily there's been plenty of good info on that here.
  4. When you're just blazin' away how fast are your splits? Assume 3-5 yards, no need for sights. Thanks...
  5. I have quite a few comp-tac rides, mostly ghurkas. I'm not a fan of paddles tho.
  6. Thanks all. I am currently negotiating the purchase of a slightly souped up Springfield Milspec, which I intend to add some more soup too, depending on how it goes. Whats the word on the Helweg Limited ride (http://www.hellwegltd.com/)? Seems like a decent price. The problem is I can't just go. The matches won't start for another coupla/few weeks. Ay yi yi. Time IS money (spent at least).
  7. I have plenty of concealment holsters and magpouches. I guess I'll start with them. I've been shooting an informal IDPA type thing this winter, but I'd like to be able to just let the mags hit the floor . I was looking for some cool new gear, but it does make sense to use what I have, at least until I figure out why I shouldn't...
  8. Thanks for the advice. One thing that I was doing was to break the whole drill down. I did everything relatively slow and kinda pause between each distinct movement. I used the pause to look back at the preceeding action and determine if it went well. It makes more sense to drill each movement independently.
  9. I'm gonna shoot some IPSC matches when they start up this spring. I have 2 guns that are candidates: Browning HiPower andGlock 19. I'd rather shoot the hipower; it points better, better trigger and $20 17rnd mags . I'm looking for recommendations on a holster and mag pouches... I don't wanna open carbon fiber rig, but I do want something fast and that will allow me to focus totally on gunhandling as opposed to concealment. Also, what are good magpouches? I like the idea of those variable angle, belly mount jobs. Where's a good place to get this stuff? And finally, shooting either of the guns above, what division would I be in? Would these divisions limit my holster choices? Thanks all.
  10. I tried it without concealment, but same IWB behind hip. I average about 3.3 there. I'm trying to figure out what needs to be trimmed to get closer to 2 sec 'cause right now I feel like I'm BLAZIN'. Have to stop and collect my self afer every coupla gos.
  11. Thanks fellas. I'm cool with being a D student. Recapturing those glory days of youth.
  12. Been lurking here for awhile and gotten tons of great info. B/C of this site I went and bought a timer to practice with, so of course I wanna know how I'm doing... I'm shooting from IWB behind the hip under sweater-type cover. My 'in the groove' times for draw-shoot one-reload-shoot one are at 4.25. This is with 80% As at 7yds. The other 20% are close Bs or the occasional awful dropped shot . I'm not a classified shooter and only shoot at my local ranges informal matches, so I'm just trying to get an idea of where I stand on this drill. Of course I have many other benchmark questions but I'll avoid asking them 'cause at some point it becomes ridiculous/painful . Thanks for any info.
