  1. Welcome to the club Relax and see the only way to do it ~ S
  2. Why exactly? The 1911 has 3 safeties, if you disable the grip safety you still have two left. Since this forum is primarily for IPSC type shooting questions isn't reasonable to assume he is talking about IPSC shooting?
  3. Please don't even bring up the limited prize table, and the fact they started much earlier than the published time. I missed out big time showing up 20 minutes earlier than the published time, 120 spots When a guy I knew who finished below me got a frame, it definitely didn't make my day.
  4. Sounds like the grip safety. There is no reason to have one that is activated. If you don't want to deactivate it, at least tape it down.
  5. Yea, those thing were huge!!! I'd much rather have a laminated piece of paper than those things.
  6. Twix, Who said it was easy? Learning to get rid of "match fever" is crucial for improvement. ~ S
  7. Visual Patience and stop breaking bad shots. Learn to make every shot count all the time. Making up shots in a comstock COF takes more time than making the 1st shot count. If you regularly "make up shots" when shooting a COF you are doing something wrong. Virginia count is a good test of real skill, because you can't throw "hopers." It is that simple.
  8. How about mounting Bomars on my tape gun? A buddy of mine wants to mount a C-more on his "replica" STI bb gun.
  9. He needs to shoot the same amount of points 30% faster to win
  10. Trinity in the movie of the same name?
  11. Aw, the pewter is the way to go PIMP DADDY
  12. The ranges: Start -50 yards, Carpet 36 yards, charge line 20 yards. I had tons of time from 20. It took me 5.5 to run to the carpet and 6.5 to the charge line. I ran them both 3 times. 15 yards was worth the extra second. Even if we "had to" engage at 50, I would have drawn and threw 3 rounds in about 1.25 and ran to 20 to finish it off.
  13. I hope no one intends my comments to be para bashing. There are just many reasons not to "upgrade" Paras. You probably already realize that if you spent what you have in "upgrading" your Para .... They do shoot different though, the frame/grip makes the feel when shooting it different, I am NOT saying worse.
  14. A STI and a Para will feel different shooting, not just because of the lightend slide, personaly I wouldn't put too much into the Para for many reasons. I shoot a tungsten barrel and it is flat and soft, I would prefer that to lightening the slide personally. You can use spring the gun different also to make it "feel" different. For everything you do to your gun there is a trade off. I think most would be better off to spend the money on bullets and shoot more. If you want a lightened gun, save your money and buy one from someone who made it that way. So, sell the para and slide and get a gun built by someone who designed it to work, you will save time $$$ and headaches. Just my 2 cents. I like the look of holes in the top and on the sides, but having shot several, I don't think the performance is different enough to make any difference in my shooting at all, it just has a cool factor to it.
  15. I didn't see them, but I talked to Max, and he said they shot at 2 targets and ran to the carpet. Don shot it all from 50 I was told. I ran to the 20 yard line (tweaked my calf on the 1st step, took two extra seconds once I got their to deal with the pain and got 74 points limited, 5th on the stage.) I figured I could get 60 easy on the 1st string if I ran up (I got in a hurry and saw my mike on the last target before the reload and I miked one on the last target on the second string.) I figured to get 24 on the second string, and since 72 was the high score at the time my 60 and 24 would net me 84, but with 2 mikes 74 was still ok (10 A's 6 c's.) Had I not tweaked my calf I was hoping to put 2 shots on the left target on the left array since it was visable at the 20 yard line. So I was thinking if it went right I could have gotten 94, the way Taran did. I went to the 20 because it only took 1 second more to get there, and my splits at 20 are much faster than 30. I didn't shoot at 50 because the math didn't work. 6-7 seconds for draws and reloads plus 2-3 seconds to move into position on the right hand arrays. .85-1 second splits to get A's (maybe) and with 10 shots you get 50 points if you get all A's. So it was no brainer limited for me. Open, well that depends on how you shoot at 50, I would have done the run up to, because I know I could have gotten 90 easy doing it open, and that would have factored well. You could see the far left target at 20, I don't know for sure, but I was told from someone I trust, that he saw Matt shoot one target through a barrel.
  16. Make every round count. In practice and in matches. At the SV Open I shot 3 extra rounds the whole match (2 on steel, 1 on paper making up a d with a d, and I saw them both) and finshed 14th in limited. I had some massive mag jams due to the fine dust mixing with the case lube reside on my bullets (that cost me 6 places at least.) If you know where every round goes you hesitate less and get to the next spot faster and stay relaxed. Rushing won't make you faster, just more reckless.
  17. I talked to Taran this weekend (SVI), and he said he use a tungsten guide rod, a modified dust cover (not short, not long) and a .1 front post, no fiber optic. He also said, "...it doesn't make much of a difference what kind of a setup you shoot." I tend to agree.
  18. Sub 2 pounds triggers are only necessary if you have no trigger control. 2 - 2.5 triggers tend to last longer. A clean breaking trigger is more important than the trigger pull. Flex, LOL right on.
  19. His time was 37, not 7, Palm input error, and this was the guy who invented the palm scoring system. Also stage one, the RO didn't keep up with Doug from many accounts, thus the scorching fast time. Overall the matches stages were pretty good, the bazillion RO's shooting through and 2 hours between stages really sucked, as well as stage 4 being thrown out, because it cost me a frame kit , oh well live and learn.
  20. I'm with Bob and couple years ago I realized I was fat and wanted to lose the extra pounds I put on going through ending a bad marriage. I thought about the whole "diet" thing and decided whatever I did I would have to do it for the rest of my life, so I decided against a "diet." Over 1 year I lost the 50 lbs. I wanted to lose simply by eating less and exercising more (I strated by just walking a bit everyday.) I also started to eat more "real" food (not processed.) I decreased my portions slowly and over time. 2 years later I am in good shape, feel great, and food isn't a big deal anymore, I try to eat "real" food, but am not afraid to eat anything or calculate calories. I force myself to step on the scale every morning as a reminder that it is what you do everyday that really counts when it come to your overall health.
  21. Shooting right to left - I think it is helpful to be just as comfortable shooting either direction, then you are more likely to shoot the tarets the most efficiently instead of thinking about comfort.
