  1. Crazy thing is, I live in a house full of little girls a,d they and the wife love that show. It is the thing we all watch together. My oldest and I also are "DirtyJobs" watchers.
  2. Like was said before, "like I need another reason not to go there. Walmart has been losing ground with me for years. I have found that many of the things they sell for cheap are cheap for a reason. The local Stater Brothers has moderately priced food that is better and stays fresh longer. I reload and don't buy ammo there anymore. I buy many of the things that I used to buy at Wal Mart at Costco. But it wasn't like I really made an effort to stop going to Wal Mart, just that I found many other places better. But now, I have a principled reason to avoid Wally World.....cool
  3. My Pop started me in this game years ago. When I joined the Army, I stopped shooting pistols and after carrying an M-60 for a couple of years, I wasn't interested in shooting for a while. Years later, and here I am back in this thing and it is something that my father and I still talk about over the phone. He even checks my match scores online. You are starting something big in his life. Many of his friends will have no clue as to what he is doing and accomplishing, but you and he will. I think that that link of practical pistol shooting has created a bond between my father and I that will last us all of our lives. All that time we have spent shooting and competing together I will never forget. My first rifle, pistol, holster, speed loaders, auto, competition, win, he was there for all of it. Now as a new USPSA member and reborn reloader, he and I talk all the time about loads, powder, etc. etc. Be proud not only of your son, but of the fact that you are willing to share this with him. He will cherish it alot, some now, more as he grows up, and even more when he is a father. JZ
  4. Get your head candled? What does that mean? That just tickled me to death!
  5. If you have the time, you can always go spectate at a local match. That will give you a good idea of what folks are shooting and what the popular options are. It will also give you a much better idea of what the sport entails. +1 I think that knowing how to operate and compete with a pistol is the most fun one can have with their clothes on. I only wish my wife liked it at all nevermind as much as I do. Have fun and keep that lady happy. I hear that a spouse as a shooting buddy is a good thing except when you're doing all the reloading. Although there could be bargaining room there...
  6. Well thanks for the quick response. I was under the impression that the prices that I saw on the sites was shipped but, apparenlty I was mistaken. Anyway, I will try the MGs and let you know how they work out. Once again, thank you,JZ
  7. I just started back reloading last year. I stopped before glocks were popular or as popular as they are now. I have had some problems with the bulge that unsupported barrels a la Glock impart on brass. I bought a EGW U die that I put on my Rock Chucker and run all range brass through before I run it through my SDB. Has solved all my problems with the Batlle of the Brass Bulge. But, it does add time to my reloading process. Hope that helps you, JZ
  8. Getting ready to order bullets next week. And the choices I'm looking at are; Precision Delta 124 gr. fmj @ $72.00 per 1000 Precision Bullets 125 gr. moly coated @ $64.00 per 1000 Zero (Powder Valley) $124 gr. fmj @ 69.00 per 1000 Montana Gold 124 gr. fmj @ $94.00 per 1000 Question is, for a newbie that wants the most for his money, what would you suggest? My last fmjs were Winchesters but they are going up and I am wanting to try something new. Thanks, JZ
  9. I am an avid cyclist, but not an idiot. I feel your pain as some cyclists think that the law will save them when they are behaving incosiderately or idiotic in traffic. I ride on WIDE streets during hours of little traffic. The thing that gets me is we have a similar cycling hot spot here and even after several cyclists have been killed they ride that hill like they own it. Go figure

It's been a month since I last posted here, many things have changed. I've been riding to get back in shape. I ride 22.6mi every evening except Thursday. That averages out to about 135mi a week. It has helped me sleep better and is helping me get the belly down. Just got my own timer and have been practicing my dryfire three times a week using Stve Andersons first book. Well, I can now say that I am really doing it now FINALLY! And WOW! After 40 to 45 minutes I am shaky. Is this the norm for you others out there? I will get more info like times and such when I take the time to copy them from the logs. What I will say is that I never really devoted time like this to dryfire where I was consistent. It does take energy, but it sure feels good to feel the familiarity beginning to build in how I look at the sights. It also has helped me see things you people talk about all the time like snapping your eyes to the next target first. It is beginning to fell very natural to look down the sights. Funny how awkward it felt last year when I look at it in hindsight, I thought that it felt natural, but it was nothing compared to now.
  11. I am, thank you all very much! I had triple-chocolate cake for breakfast, slept in 'til 8:30, played with the girls a bunch, and will get out to the Spring Fling carnival this evening to get the kids tired. Then, when all are sleeping, I will ride out to Bighorn and back for my daily night-ride. That is what I call a well spent B-day
  12. Well I am not a fan of the Unibrow/Monobrow, but I have one. I admit that I run the shaver over the center when I shave, (frequently) and few can tell the difference because I started this practice soon after it became evident that this was the situation. If yoiu ever meet me, don't STARE and try to see where, just act NATURAL. Okay?
  13. Those hairstyles go around every 20 years! They were hip in the 60's, 80's, nd now. I don't pay attention to what kids other than my own wear. I have no boys so I'm not worried about what pants they wear as long as they reveal little and they are the only ones in them!
  14. What kind of relief does a scope like that have? Can you mount it up front like on a SOCOM? What MOA is the reticle?
  15. Oh the fun we had as kids torturing insects. Can anyone say Lysol and a book of matches?
  16. Well, yes I can sympathize with you. I dated a girl once the whole family hated. I thought that after we had broken up that maybe they were right to be unkind to her. But as the years have gone by I have realized that they were wrong. She was a nice person to them and didn't deserve the treatment she got. Worse thing is that except for my father, because he was fair and nice to her, I now see my sisters and mother in a whole different light. It is not what I would have wished to see. Ah family, drama I can do without! P.S. I must be a glutton for punishment, I have three daughters!
  17. The last time I practiced livefire I had the same problem. If I slowed down and sgueezed so that the pistols going off was a surprise, I would get a hit. So I just kept at it and did improve after a couple of hundred rounds. After that though I think the muscles in my weak hand were tired and shots started to fly to points on the target that I wasn't happy with so I went back to freestyle and strong-hand. I'm a newbie at dryfire though and practicing really, but that was and is my experience. Even in dryfire, I find that my weak-hand does get tired. JZ

  19. Damn! You sure know how to get me all choked-up. Hell, I cried like a girl. Great people in this sport, great people.
  20. +2 Also, if the greenies really want to help they would turn 180 against ethanol! The amount of herbicides and nitrogen-rich fertilizers going into the Gulf as a result of the corn/ethanol debacle is seriously screwing-up the ecosystem of the Gulf. That doesn't even count what it is going to cost to feed people all over the world because the price of corn is going up EVERYWHERE! People in countries far and wide are feeling the effect of this thing and can anyone tell me something good about this program? I don't mind people who are doing business with the planet in mind, I just have a problem when they can't see the forrest for the trees.
  21. I'm 6' 4" and my bench is 50". I have an adjustable swiveling chair for doing pistol cleaning etc. But I like to stand as others have said when I'm reloading and find the height just right. That way I'm not slouching while I rload. JZ
  22. It's amazing they haven't figured out what it is that makes professors so BORING Hven't found a sleep aid that works as well as some of the ones I had in scool.
  23. Thats just crazy, even the Cholos in the canyons around here with their AKs have WAY BETTER range etiquette than that.
  24. Nik, That story you related about Bill just hit hard. It is friends that make us wealthy, truly, in this world. It made me wish I too had made his aquaintance. That is an honor that you did in his memory by sharing with us what a good man he was. Thanks, JZ
