Had a long and fun range session today. Bay 5, platerack. Draws, first shot, transitions, strong-hand only, weakhand only, reloads, and finally groups. At 25 yds, my groups are right in the 3" range. I can probably get them down but I am hitting in practice so I'm not exactly unhappy about it. I was getting tired and decided to put the new rifle through some 250 yd practice. Ran shot-shot-reload-shot shot to get used to the magazines. What a blast! The thing that amazed me is that for such a short weapon, the SOCOM has good pointability and returns to target fairly quick. After about 100 rds of that it was time to go home. Boy do rifles get hot! That thing was still hot when I got home 45 minutes later. One good thing about todays session is that I can now regularly track my sights as I shoot. It doesn't matter what load I am using, I can consistently track them. They go up and to the right just slightly. If I am shooting fast (for me that is) it helps to time shots as I can take the next shot as soon as the front sight hits level. Feels cool when I am clearing the plate rack. I can do it strong hand only also but not weak hand. My weak hand SUCKS! If any of you know of some good drills for the weak hand let me know. I think that I will begin to train weakhand from the beginning like I learned to shoot strong hand. I'm going to bring a 38 revolver to the range and shoot weak-hand DA only for a hundred rounds a session. Does dry fire hurt revolvers? I also re-sighted my pistol in today. I found that it was hitting high at 25 yds. I put it on at 30 yds and found its track up to 10 yds. That seemed to help my accuracy and made the sight picture that I use almost as on as I've ever been. It felt good today to seem to be getting back together with my pistol like an old friend. But my pistol was telling me things that I need to work on. WEAK HAND! RELOADS! That's all for now, thanks, JZ
  2. I stopped reloading on second-hand Dillon equipment in 1991-1992. Boxed it up poorly and forgot about it until last year. Sent it in and was told it would cost me $35.00. Wouldn't you know it, but those crazy people at Dillon had the nerve to send me my nearly 100% rebuilt and new reloaders back to me AT NO CHARGE! And to top it off, they sent me manuals for them and the others I said I MIGHT be interested in buying in the futrure! Talk about trying to hard sell you! Man those folks drive me nuts. Seems they will never change! Well, I guess if your the best game in town you can afford to treat your customers that way.
  3. It seems to me that those people should be the first to rise and sing it! Because while they may not agree with their government or such, they do have the right to diagree. I care very little for blind patriotism, that us against them attitiude, but I LOVE OUR COUNTRY! I sing that sappy tune and get chills when I do! And, I will defend to the death your right to disagree and dissent, so why not sing it with me? I won't laugh at you if you don't laugh at me .
  4. Was looking at shotguns yesterday. The dealer I was at sells almost all Benellis. m2s, m4s, and a pump called the Nova. Seemed well-made and was only $400.00. That seemed like a good deal on a pump gun. I handled it and it seemed like it was well built. Do any of you have any experience with this model or have heard anything about it? Thanks, JZ
  5. Forgot to say be safe! We pray for you all here at the Mero house!
  6. I work in an area that was known for its tweakers before the resurgence of meth here in the Southwest. I also work amongst the huge wind-energy tracts near Palm Springs. The tweakers go in at night and steal the copper out of the wind turbines. They are getting lots on the copper as the price is still really high. They even stole the conductors out of long tracts of street lighting in L.A.. When they need gas, they hop the fence to our yard and drill the bottom of your gas tank and fill up whatever they have and leave you with an empty tank that will hold nothing. On the other hand, you can leave out anything you really do not want and are too cheap to take to the dump, and they will haul it away for you at no cost. ( Except the gas you gave them earlier in the week if you left your car overnight.) We have cosidered hiring them to work at our factory. we figured they need no breaks, are never hungry, and need only a quick break to recharge on whatever it is that they are bumping on. They stay up for days on end, figure we could do a weeks production in just 40 straight hours! Many hang out at the truckstop across the freeway and sleep in the tamarisk trees near the westbound offramp. They could sleep in the shop when they eventually need to come off thier high. I'm sure they are trustworhty folk who would watch over our factory and keep everything ship-shape while we were away! The sad thing though on a serious note is watching one of the new ones go down in flames. Every once in a while we see a new one, usually a young woman, who starts showing up at the truckstop. at first many of them look healthy, some actually pretty. After a few months they look ten to twenty years older, and have been beaten up by johns or other methheads. Then one day they are gone and you wonder, jail or the morgue?
  7. I like to do the chick flick, dinner, dancing, and ETC therapy! I may have to sit through a sappy crappy movie, but at least there is some adult entertainment at the end ot the evening!
  8. HSMITH, Otis makes many and all look fine and dandy. Seems they have a good selection at Brigade Quartermaster. Thanks, JZ

    Reunions

I like friendly competition, +1 on the popcorn! Welcome back and keep your sights on your buddy! Call him out of production! C'mon man we love a good competition!
  10. I am wondering what you use or if you have made your own. Please give brands if you have them. I have some tools that I like but am wanting a complete kit that will fit in my range bag and that is of sufficient quality that it will last a while. Thanks, JZ PS something good for rifle and pistols.
  11. Larry, It was almost all Floyd, only one Wates song that I can recall, and it was the one that he used for his prostest song. Yeah, you're right, most of Floyd's stuff is political. When I saw them years ago though, it didn't seem like I had to sit through ANY political tirades. Yeah, they've got the right, just wish I'd known before I went. Could have gotten some sleep instead, or dryfired in the garage. At least the tickets were free!
  12. Reminds me of The Jerk. Navin goes into the bank to cash his first royalty check for $50,00.00. He asks for it in singles. One of my favorites!
  13. Was at the Coachella Festival last weekend to see Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame. His technical approach to his show was outstanding! The sound and visual effects were fantastic and sharp! But at the end of his first set I got an earfull of his anti-Bush/Blair/Iraq War dribble. It's not that I think he has no right to put his opinions out there. I think we all do, it's just that I go to shows to escape and relax, not to get angry or energized about a cause. Especially when most people try and simplify things to a level that is so unralistic and one-dimensionable as to be ludicrous. And this is before listening to the second set where we have to sit through the Dark Side Of The Moon! Try that sober! Now I know why I liked that stuff in my 20's! Very well done but can we say BORING? No doubt the girls next to my nephew and I were enjoying the show, ( Dilated pupils, blank smiles, flirtatious come-ons) we on the otherhand left early and didn't feel a bit sorry. So just a word to all aspiring rock stars, LEAVE YOUR SOAPBOX AT HOME! I like your music, but I could care less how you feel about anything political. If you are not a protest singer, stay that way and just sing and play your thing. We could really care less how you feel about starving kids or refugees. Really.
  14. Heck, I don't know where I fit in on this one entirely. I like to talk to people, enjoy them for the most part. I get a kick when people ,including me, say stupid things. I am inquisitive and curious about most things that others do for fun or work, so I ask ALOT of questions. I like a crowd but can't handle the all-day music festivals anymore. (Went to my last, last week) But my favorite time is spent alone on my bike climbing hills, reloading( I hope that doesn't get old anytime soon!) shooting, matches, and hiking. When I am with peolpe though I like to be with my wife and the girls. They love me and put up with so much that I would be a fool not to want to hang out with them. I especially like teaching them footwork with the ball. They are learning so fast how to dribble and pass! Our baby Jillian is my biggest fan and today she followed me around the back yard while I reorganized the irrigation in the backyard. So yes, I enjoy and cherish my alone time and the quiet it brings and the room to think. Yet, I really like the busy and chatty life with the girls, watching them grow and change before my eyes. Lately I have been helping an old enployer who is under the gun to finish three interiors before the end of the year. This is ultra high-end cabinets and furniture that you see inside the homes of Architechtural Digest. So I have been working 5AM to 10PM. This has cut down my me time and my family time. So my dryfire and reloading has been put on hold until we get his thing out. The extra money is good, but the people who work for him are not the top of the gene pool. His good eployees do his installs now and that leaves only one good fabricator to work nights and help him get his things in on time. So let me say that I like people, I love my family, i like alone time, but what I really need is some sleep!

    Ticks!

WOW! Why is it that they always go places you wouldn't normally discuss in a room full of people? Keep us posted on how the meds work out etc. I'm always interested in what happens with people as a disease does it's thing. Hope you don't feel like a guinea pig, I'm just curious what Lyme disease really does to you. Good Luck! Get Better!
  16. HSMITH, What is the rule for OAL using a bullet like this? Do you load it to where it would be if the profile was a complete FMJ? Or do you load it to OAL as to where the flat tip is? Oh, and thanks for the tips on what data to use. I have a current 125 load that I like and can use for a starter. Smokshmn, Thank you also, but I will be running minor for this bullet in the near future. I tried 9mm major way back when and I think I'll keep everything minor until I shoot open in the far off future.
  17. Okay reloading gurus, I seem to have gotten into a pickle here with this bullet. I bought these things before I had a load for them, figuring I'd have time to find a starter load by the time they got here. Wel, I didn't. now I've been all over the internet trying to find a load for them and can't seem to find one so here goes. 9mm, 121 grain, International Full Profile, Montana Gold. These are, again, the 115 JHP with a filled cavity. Seems that is near six grains of lead in that hole. Shooting minor and either Winchester 231 or Hodgdon Titegroup. If you do not have a load but can steer me to a reliable source for reloading data, I'd be happy about that. Thanks again, JZ
  18. I am a noob to USPSA, but not to competition. I was on championship teams in soccer, waterpolo, and running. No matter how much I practiced before any competition, I would get so amped on adrenaline I thought my head would pop. Doesn't happen as bad as it did when I was younger, but it still happens. A buddy told me to just breath deep and keep imagining you're doing the task perfectly and visualize it. When I do this I usually can supress the jitters by concentrating on the task at hand. I hope that this helps. JZ
  19. Pop is selling some of his guns and gear to family members. One thing is a Sig Sauer SP2340. Seems like a nice pistol. It is .40 caliber. He asked my Brother-In-Law if he wanted to buy it. In-Law says he would like to try it out Thursday. Pop says if he doesn't want it would I like to buy it and shoot Production with it. What say you sages ot the Benosphere? Is this a good pistol for Production and what is it worth?
  20. The phone guy, the cable guy, the sattelite guy, the appliance repair guy, they're all about the 8 to 5 thing. Like we have the time...right.
  21. Welcome, but I DO want to know where Spzzmoose comes from. The people on this forum are great!. Stick around, learn lots and check out the humor section. I hear a good one almost every-other day at least. JZ
  22. Good thread, cool blogs. :popcorn1: Need some more though.
  23. Just as the title and topic state, was wondering what you thought about these. I just ordered 3K and wanted a preview. Gonna shoot steel and IPSC with these. Will go through BHP with a 6" comped barrel and a standard length barrel. What load were you happy with if you loaded these same bullets? I will look them up and find something comperable if not exact. Just throwing it out there to y'all. Thanks, JimmZip
  24. The rules from when I was little seem to be the same as the rules we operate by at work and at home. When I say something that I know to be false, I AM LYING! There was a time I would have been switched for that. I know my boss would fire me for such nonsense. Now I have to vote for the person who I feel either lies the least, or says what I want to hear when they do lie. I don't feel so much cynical as realist.

    Reloading

I love Friday nights, after my bike ride, listening to AM radio, and cranking out ammo. It's peaceful, quiet, nice. Now if I could only take my bench and presses on vacation. Yeah, maybe that's pushing it.
