  1. If you reload inside, be sure to tumble and seperate outside.(lead dust) I reload in the garage with fan at night as previously posted. In the summer it's in the 90s out there, that's ok. I jump in the pool afterward and sleep very soundly! JZ
  2. Sue, You are another example of why I joined USPSA this year. People like you populate our ranks making us a great group to hang and compete with. Hats off to you! JZ
  3. JT, Prayers for your pooch! I always liked that nickname. Never met a dog with that one though, alot of relatives, but they spell it Chuy. Anyways love and prayers to your girl. Let us know how she does. JZ
  4. One set up I saw years ago was a screw together pipe "swingset". Plates were hung like swings and only needed to be painted between runs. You can order the pipe fittings from McMaster-Carr. The trick is to not hit the target where the steel wire or chain goes through the holes on the edge of the target. But I saw these type of set ups used in early matches and they were fixed easily enough. If you build them right, you can fit the pieces into the back of your car. I weld and have built so many different type of target stands some good, many I have left out in the desert to be taken by other shooters. (They last less than a day or two before someone takes them home ) The one that I am building now is a copy of the typical IPSC cardboard target holder that holds two 1X2s vertically or at a 45 degree angle. This takes the least amount of steel and welding, and they can fit in your car. I am tired of carrying steel around. Paper is light and pasting beats painting in my book. Plus, you don't have as much of the lead exposure hauling those lead-splattered targets in your car. Just my .02,JZ
  5. Jake, Could you clarify that? I was reading this and I'm about to go out but I'm curious to hear how bringing the gun in on wide transitions relates to target difficulty. Thanks, JZ
  6. Racer, Consider yourself lucky! I wish my wife even liked guns at all! She grew up in a shooting sports family( hunting, clays) and yet has no desire to even look at a gun let alone fire one. I went to shoot sporting clays with her once many years ago and she is quite good even, but alas has no desire for the sport. Down side I hear from men in your position is very few shooting wives reload. Is she going to clean her gun or are you? Yeah, I guess I would have eventually posted in the What I Hate forum too! JZ
  7. We have the same creature here in the Coachella Valley in California. I will typically find them in the bottom of the corner protector bin when it is empty. I think they like to hide there and eat whatever falls into the bin. They are called Wind Spiders here. They will carry their babies on their back like a scorpion too which looks almost garish when seen for the first time. We used to pit them against scorpions also when I was a kid. Cool to watch a large one eat a gecko or small lizard! JZ
  8. Neomet, Could the followers be backward on the springs? I have seen this problem on my Bro-in-Laws TZ-75. He had cleaned his mags and put the followers in backwards. The rounds looked okay when you loaded them, but he would have the same problem when he put them in his pistol. Just a thought, JZ
  9. So THAT explains the fashion statement @ Rayner's Hmmm....maybe I could start a website... Sock & Sandals for the Serious Shooter (dot com) Wasn't there a guy who shot the Bianchi Cup in sandals several years ago? Didn't he place in the top 5?
  10. Merlin, This wouldn't be penance for previous transgressions.......would it? Five Hail Maries would have been quicker!
  11. Is that the ultimate CQB shotgun or what? I would hate to face that kind of firepower and just plain old loudness in ANY CONFINED AREA. (You would be yelling too after clearing a house with that thing!) I know an old guy who used to work as an agriculture specialist in several foreign countries, I will have to tell him about that as he used to carry a model '97 back in the day. He will be tickled! TooCool!
  12. Thanks alot you guys! I apppreciate the info. I will tell you how it shoots and will be looking for the dies and powder measure when I get my next paycheck on the 15th. Oh that wait is gonna kill me!
  13. Thanks Revchuck, I have some 231 and titegroup. I still have to get some dies. I thought I had some .38 dies but I don't and I need a powder measure as I don't have a progressive loader other than a SDB that is set up for 9mm. What is the proper amount of play in the cylinder when the hammer is forward? There seems to be about a 64th of play when the hammer is cocked or when the hammer is forward. Is this excessive? What benchtop powder measure would you use if you were using a single stage setup? I talked with a buddy who has this same pistol by coincidence and he says it shoots decent groups. The barrel on this pistol probably only has 2500 rounds max through it as I shot it only about four times a month when I shot it and that was for about a year and a half, two tops. I do not think my sister shot it much at all. It looks as if it has been in the safe all that time and it needs a good cleaning. I,m going to spiff it up tomorrow night after the fireworks and shoot it on Saturday and see how it shoots.
  14. Went to see my brother-in-law today and asked him if he still had my old .38 and if he did could I borrow it for a while to work on trigger control. He said yes and yes and if I wanted I could have it as he just bought my sister a new Sig .40 that she loves. This is the first pistol I shot any matches with when I was 11 and 12 years old. I had a new barrel put in it back in '80 and Pachmayer grips in '81. It has a smooth action that was done along with the barrel replacement by a guy named Ken Hitchman who used to do pistolwork here in the Coachella Valley back then. Now to the question, how do I tell what model this pistol is? I would like to shoot the stock gun match with it. It is a .38 with a 3 3/8" barrel measured from the front of the frame to the end of the barrel. If measured from the forcing cone to the tip of the barrel it is 4". The serial number is K 1370XX and there is the number 53413 on the inside of the arm that holds the cylinder. ( I can't remember what you call that part. ) Any help would be appreciated. Also, what is a good .38 load that any of you shoot? I can't remember what I loaded this with but I do remember loading for it at one time with a single stage press. BTW I wasn't the one who cracked the barrel, it was that way when it was given to me.

I have three girls! I hope they run off to Vegas!
  18. I have taught my daughters to respect but not fear those types of things. We have literally hundreds of Black Widow spiders on our property at any time. Snakes, tarantulas, scorpions(my favorite), and geckos(banded tail) also inhabit our front and back yards. They chase and catch and imprison the poor little creatues regularly. I have a pact with the wildlife that as soon as the girls are asleep, I will let tem out and on their way. They like to kill black widows though. We take joy in squishing the egg sacks that they protect. Remember pitting Black Widows against several types of spiders and a scorpion. I never saw the Black Widow lose.

My Wife taught me the meaning of frugal while planning our wedding! We had our wedding at a restaurant that had a big grassy back area. WAAAY cheaper than a hotel or C.C. We had a friend do the floral design and the wedding party got drunk and put the stuff together after the rehearsal dinner. This was actually fun! I built the trellis type thingy for up at the alter with some 1x and wood screws and painted it with cheap paint. I think that cost me $20 at the time. We did have open bar for the first four hours, but not after that. We served pizza and pastas, (no red sauce unless you requested some from a waiter) Cheap and to this day everyone says that they thought the food was great. ( They actually ate all the food! And we over ordered!) That is more than I can say for most weddings where you get some cheap wannabe chicken. She bought her dress at an outlet when it was on sale and talked them down on alterations. Still she looked fabulous. Hair for all the ladies and the MOTB was done by the maid of honor as that is what she does for a living. Rehearsal dinner was that southwest pig cooked over the coals in my in-laws back yard with my friends band and kegged beer or good wine. cheap and everyone who doesn't know eachother can get liquored-up and get aquainted. But with all that informality and frugality, I am one of those people who LOVES CAKE! I paid heavily and tried cake at many bakeries. I think I spent $1500.00 on that thing. I found the one I wanted in a design ad. (Used to work in that field) I found a cake that I liked and said "Make it taste like this and look like that" I know that seems odd, but with everything being about the bride, and me liking, no LOVING cake, I really wanted that cake to be remembered. Boy was it ever! You know how you are supposed to eat the top layer on your anniversary? Well, the wedding revelers ate the damn thing! Its cause it was so damn good!
  20. Well the other shoe fell today! We are cutting hours 20% and pay accordingly as of July 1st. I asked for 30 days notice to let daycare know so that I wouldn't have paid the whole 30 days in advance and give her time to find another person to fill our spot. No such luck. Anyway, at least I will be with the rugrats during the day all summer vacation. We will swim and enjoy At least I have a job and I am thankful for that!
  21. I shoot a BHP in 9mm. Am going to have a magwell installed on one of my guns and want basepads that will extend mag past magwell. Not looking for more capacity, just longer mag for positive seating of mag. Thanks, JZ
  22. Something similar happened to me in my front driveway! Left gear bag in front of locked truch after a day at the range. Came out to empty the truck and someone had beat me to it. The thing that made it all worse is that the Sherrifs Dept refused to come over and do anything about it. They asked me if I would like to make a report OVER THE PHONE! I asked if they were aware that I had called them five times and was waiting for a deputy to arrive because there were firearms stolen. They said they were aware of this and that they could file the report over the phone. I asked what about fingerprint evidence etc? They said that they rarely take that type of evidence when a car is broken into So I made the report on the phone and told them that I sure felt that their attitude toward catching theives left alot to be desired, With all the laws they have regarding firearms here in CA, I am amazed that I wasn't charged with a felony!
  23. Feeling your pain! Just found out that we might be cutting hours by 20%. That would put me in line to take a 20% hit in salary also. I will be shifting my days to nights and eliminating after school care for my kids to ALMOST make up the difference. Yeah, I hate the economy too. Good luck and let's hope and pray it doesn't last too long JZ
  24. Well. I thank you all, and will order one after I get back from vacation. Thanks alot, I will let you know how I like it after it gets here next month. Thanks again, JZ
