  1. That's Chris thinking he's on fire! Me and the pit crew are off to the side screaming that he's not but with the helmet and the noise of the other cars out there, he can't or doesn't want to believe us!
  2. Heavy, congratulations! I love babies! They smell good, they are cuddly, and warm, ah hell if we could have more we would, but I guess we are blessed with our three! Raise him right! I need good husbands out there for my girls to choose from!
  3. Sorry Chills, but I am 'tard when it comes to the computer! I searched at the top of this page SOCOM 16 and came to a thread "What is the best optic for Tactical" or something like that. Also got some tips on what to do about that Fat A$$ front sight on this beast and got some good info about that too. It seems that at the normal sight radius for the M1A, the normal front sight is the right width. But at the diminished radius, it is just too big! I found that at 200 yds that thing was not a front sight but a blotter hiding my target. If you get a chance to check one out you will see what I mean. What I do like is how light the recoil is on this thing for a .308. This thing, even with such a short barrel is suprisingly light and accurate. I even found the trigger to be smooth out of the box. Close up it shoots great, but out past 100 yds you begin to see why people are having the front sight thinned. Some poeple are even thinning the front sight and competing with irons. I think that with my vision still good, I will start that route and buy the optic after trying several this season on friends rifles. Forgot to add that the optics that got the most positive response were the Meostar 1x4, Meopta R-1, the TR21, and the Weaver1-3x20. I think the weaver sounds like a good one to start on. JZ
  4. Mods, the search was my friend! Sorry for this redudnant topic/post. JZ
  5. Well I heard one the othe night dining with family and friends in the mortgage business. Some people who are near forclosure are BUYING houses that are forclosures so they can take advantage of the good rates and better prices. Then they are letting the more expensive house go into forclosure. that is what I call insane.
  6. Been on the net tonight and found that I can shoot a match every weekend, even more than one, within a 2 hrs drive from me. Gotta love that! Now if I can convince my wife that I'm going places on business.
  7. Just something quick from this newbie, If I try to see anything when I am shooting, I get all funny and can't do ANYTHING! If I visualize BEFORE and just let it go when the buzzer starts, I see ALL KINDS OF THINGS! I've just noticed this in the last couple of outings to the range. I do not know where this is leading me up to this point but what I do know is that I will continue to do this visualization thing to see better as I find myself able. ( I hope this makes sense to somebody else) I now retire to the garage to dryfire, Goodnight! P.S. General Chang, Thanks for the timer, can't wait till it gets hear and I can give my buddy his back. ( Hint: Never let JimmyZip borrow your socket set, your mower, or your timer. You'd be sorry.)
  8. Just got a Socom this year and am looking to put something on the rail for quick sight aquisition. What say you sages of the Benosphere? Also is it possible to replace the stock with the Socom II stock to give me more options as to optics like red dot AND scope?
  9. Yeager who? Why do we train to shoot so well? Not just to win in competition, I hope, but to make us better pistol shooters in general. Practice, training, is what makes you more likely to suvive should you need to defend yourself with your weapon. (Should you have the misfortune to have to.) Try if you can and remember those things that we know will make us better shooters. The other stuff from the likes of this, whatshisname will be forgotten or ridiculed for what it is when we see it less and less over time. "Square-up and open both eyes. Don't close your left, that'll block you vision on that side and make you vulnerable." That's what my old man always said. I used to get so tired of that.
  10. Jeff, I have benn sanding and finishing in my spare time for a guy who builds custom furniture for the mega wealthy here in our area. If you can get a high grade poly then sand to 320 and dust it off. ( A tack cloth is best.) Then using a good brush, put on a nice even coat of poly. You have to let it draw off the brush and use a generous amount. You want to overlap your brush strokes and keep your strokes parralel. Remember to use a generouse amount on your brush. Let that coat dry for a couple of days. I know the can will say you can coat sooner but I usually wait 48 hrs. Then, dust off the top and reapply. If you use a good amount it will be somewhat self leveling. Make sure to radius the edges of your table top before you finish. MDF is smooth but if you can find a sheet of MDX that is the ticket. The stuff is made with phenolic resin as a glue and when coated with polyurethane I can leave a 2 qt. mason jar full of ice on the thing and not even get a ring! The MDF will be just about as good when it is coated. If you want it to look really good you could just go with catylized laquer. It will react to few chemicals and is easy to refinish. Then if you want to poly afterwards down the road, you just scuff it up with some 220 grit and spray away. Use a gravity fed gun and run your pressure as low as you can. We get some creative requests and put dyes in our laquers that are cool. I personally like the look of purple tinge on laquer. It brings out the speckles in the MDF. Also, Plum Creek MDf is a better grade of board. I don't know what they do different, but their board is the best I have seen. Hope that helps, JZ P.S. When you have istalled your top, you can wax it with furniture wax. The buffed out surface will help prevent powder from sticking to your benchtop. It will also help you to dust it off easily.
  11. Glad to hear she got her blaster back! I on the other hand had no such luck. I initially wanted to start back shooting three years ago. I came home after shooting and left my gear in a locked truck in front of my house. I live in a gated community, at the end of a cul de sac. Came out a few hours later and all was gone along with many other things. IN BROAD DAYLIGHT! Such an idiot I was. I called the cops and they NEVER CAME OVER! Riverside County Sherriff never even called me back I had to bug them all day and into the next. Finally they said they would take a report over the phone. No fingerprinting of my truck or anything. The thieves got away with two BHP 9mm w/ Barsto barrels. One of which was an early 9mm major gun with a long barrel w/ comp cuts and cool custom low-pro sights that shot like a dream. They also got a S&W 22 rvolver with an incredible trigger job and a .38 special S&W subbie also with a smooth trigger and a bobbed hammer. I hate thieves, I hate em, I hate em, I hate em! Took me two years to get back to where I was before and I lost any sense of security that I had. (Which it turns out was a false sense of security!)

    Geez

And my wife wonders why I come here. Where else can I get this kind of entertainment.
  13. Careful what you wish for. Some of the feedback from that debacle led us to where we are with Islamic Fundamentalists.
  14. I started smoking in High School at 16. I joined the Army upon graduation and they didn't allow smoking in buildings etc., so I started chewing. ( Levi Garret plug) Then, i started dating this hot blonde and she said she really liked making out when my mouth didn't have that taste in it. Well, I'm no genius but her body had to take priority! ( We were in our 20s, living together with alot of free time if you know what I mean) Years later after we were broken up I went and bought me a plug and had a chew after work. The buzz was so strong I got the spins and almost drove off the road. I have never chewed again, but then again, I don't drink, no caffeine, nor any other type of drugs because of heart issues. I am proud of anyone that can stick to it and not give in to temptation. Food, sex and guns are my only vices now. They are plenty expensive by themselves. JZ
  15. Good stuff, but the sheep bring back memories of the mean sheep on my uncles property when we were kids. We couldn't go out in the pasture without the Aussie Shepherds or else the ram's would knock the s%^t out of you!
  16. ZHunter, We had low 90s I think as I was out digging trenches for the neighbors landscape lighting and feel like I got a light sunburn. Wish we had snow here but hey the poolwas nice at about 75-78 degrees
  17. He also used to write for Soldier Of Fortune Magazine. His regular column was called Full Auto. I have some Issues that I keep from 1976 through 1978. If you can find some of these issues, you would get a hoot at some of the stuff in them. Even some of Chucks stuff seems so archane now 30 years later.
  18. Thank you all of you for the insight and reality check. It was good to read the differences and the agreements. Weird thing is that you ALL made sense. JZ
  19. Do I have to search this guys or could you tell a relatively new guy what it's for?
  20. I was dryfiring tonight, Came back in the house and found several people on the forum discussing movement during a stage. They were discussing movement into and out of positions on a stage. My question is at what point do I start to study this stuff and practice it? Right now I've been dryfiring and practicing transitions ,draws, weak-hand and reloads, you know "gun" stuff. At what point do you start to look at the other stuff? Or can you start thinking about the other stuff right now?
  21. SLM Thanks for the info, that's what I'm looking for. Prices aare sure up from last year. I sure hope this all stabilizes before too long or I'll be scrapping lead and making my own before too long.
