  1. From a match production perspective, if you have a one day match and a three day match and want people to shoot both. It doesn't make any sense to put the one day one at the beginning. People will be less likely to shoot both since they'd have to shoot the one day, then stick around three more days for awards. With this you can show up Thursday night, shoot Fri and Sat and head home on Sunday. Other way around you'd shoot Wed, then Thurs, Fri or Sat but still have to wait around till Sat for awards. And for most people it would require addtional days off work. It's one year. Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't. I'm okay with letting the guy who was voted into the office do what he thinks is right. If you don't like it you can always vote him out in the next election. I know Phil didn't take the decision lightly and he's a smart enough guy to have realized there would be issues with doing it this way. Unfortunately since he only took the helm 8 months ago there wasn't time to get the schedule a 100% right. I'm willing to give it a shot in 2013 and see what happens.
  2. We now have a Dawson Precision Ice Magwell to fit all backstraps for Gen4 Glocks, colors are silver shipping monday 8-13 and black in a week or so. Black have to go to anodizing. I want to say, sorry it took so long. Good news is we built a new prototype shop so we can develop new parts faster. Thanks, Dave And blue will be available when?
  3. So for the last year I've been struggling with my rifle. Pretty much unable to hit anything past 100 yards, sometimes closer, since around the time of the Pro-Am. Previously I'd been pretty decent with the longer range rifle stuff. Well it was so bad I decided to buy a new rifle from a new maker because I couldn't figure out what was going on. Well in the process of stripping my old one down to sell I realized why it was giving me such weird results. Around summer last year I put on a fancy new 15" handguard, lo-pro gas block and a couple accessory rails at the end. I was mounting up different things on them like thumbrests, flashlights, etc. Well I finally looked today and the bearing plate for one of the rails was pressing up against that new gas block. It was actaully tight enough I had to take the handguard off to get the back plate to move. Found the same thing with the sling swivel stud but to a lesser degree. I'm guessing having random things in random contact wtih a part of the barrel that tends to heat up might have an effect on accuracy. I'm also guessing that using a bipod since it's an open gun probably had a similar negative effect which might explain why some positions it shot just fine and others not so much. It's interesting, now that I took all the stuff off, the gun sounds like it used to with a little twang from the forend with the charge handle is racked. So a couple lessons, first only add one item at a time when making changes, then check the gun to make sure it does what you want it to. Second make sure you gee whiz gadgets don't screw up a perfectly good rifle. Oh well, at least now I have a backup rifle.
  4. Back in the early days of SOF there were quite a few guys running 590's. The open loading gate of the Mossberg made it easy to load two at a time. Most guys running pump guns now seem to be using the Benelli Nova, or Super Nova? My competition pump gun is still the 870. Ive got a pair I take to work everyday, couple more in the safe and I spen a few days a year teaching on them. I love them. Don't really know what all the talk of problems with them is. I've had great success with them for over twenty years. Never had a bad gun.
  5. Emailed Ken last night. He's tentatively planning to open reg on Sep 15 and guarantee A1 entry till Dec 15. It's still tentative at this point though.
  6. Is there an official match ammo (Universal Ammo?) Tried sending an email to order up some ammo for the match but haven't heard back yet.
  7. IPSC didn't. I believe they've always allowed race holsters in Production. Holster and mag position remains the same as USPSA though.
  8. I would buy the headspaced bolt. I've seen several AR's that come improperly headspaced. The only way to fix it is to swap bolts until you find the right combo. Generally most bolts will work in most rifles. But not always. If the bolt doesn't add a lot to the price, and it shouldn't, you might as well do it right the first time. Do you have headspace gauges? If not this is good way to avoid buying a set.
  9. Not the point of tha rule to the deuce crowd. You start each stage with your gear in the same spot. Taking it off between stages (gun out of holster of course) or at night is fine. but when the buzzer sounds it better all be on and in the same spot. BTW if you'd prefer additional enforcement of this we could go to the equipment card IPSC uses and the RO can inspect you on every stage. Or we can go with common sense and peer pressure that has worked so well previously. If you show up at a stage with no holster, I think the RO can figure that out.
  10. I think that is going to be a back-to-back Nationals. With Open/Limited-10 and Limited being the 2 matches. I wouldn't guarantee that. As of the meeting Phil hadn't determined the breakdown. Or if it was going to be a combined division match. At least that's what I remember. He was talking a combined 800 person match.
  11. The original plan was to run the SS Nats in the normal schedule with the Revo Nats to follow on Sunday. PASA has an event starting the next week and needed the range back on Sunday. Hopefully for 2014 if it works out next year we can get the schedule back to normal.
  12. Where the hell is St George? Bout 90 min north of Vegas. There is a thread in another section on the range. A1 was there this year and will be again next year
  13. Might take a look at a calendar for the SS/Revo dates. SS Nats are Wed-Fri, Revo on Sat. PASA had a prior conflict and needed to have the dates that way. Just an FYI.
  14. If you check your classification page you can see how far you've moved. You're at 145 now. So basically 144 shooters would have to drop out before you get in off the wait list. I think your odds are pretty low. That said you're if you're in town, you can show up the day of and possibly get a spot. No guarantees, but it's not like you'd be out airfare.
  15. Rockcastle is a bit tricky. I've been there twice. Both times it was great during the event, but hot. The first time, July last year, they had a torrential downpour the day before the event. They've also had some very, very high heat during matches and two events shut down mid match because of rain. Makes me a bit nervous about hosting there.
  16. IPSC uses a trigger weight which is normally pretty accurate, depending on who is doing it. But I've also seen other methods at different matches. Try your trigger several times with whatever weight you decide on to be sure it's consistent. I've seen striker guns waver a pound each pull. When I ran my Glock I think I had a six pound pull just so I didn't have to worry. The half pound isn't going to gain you anything except anxiety till you get to chrono.
  17. No list, yes you can dig through FS. If you have a specific question you can email DNROI. Or just wait 5 months.
  18. Rob. If you don't get any bites let me know. I have a meeting at CT next week I can pick you up one. Gotta discuss next years plans.
  19. Wow, 12K and the frame is splitting and the slide is breaking apart. And that with a low pressure load like the .45? That's really messed up. It's not that hard to make a 1911 that will run. I can't believe that is the test results and they still picked them.
  20. Didn't realize there were any matches that didn't allow them, but then I haven't had my C-Mag out in years. No need.
  21. I hope it doesn't. We looked at April again, but with Area 6 and the MG Nats it was a bit tight at the end of the month. We also had a bunch of folks last year that wanted to tour the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. That doesn't open up until early May. We avoided the NRA Show, SS Nats and the Bianchi Cup. It is probably the same weekend as the Midwest Three Gun in MO but there are only so many weekends available.
  22. Do you think this is fair considering that other area matches don't do this? Yep, we've done it for years, dating back to before I was AD. My personal opinion is that the Area match is for the benefit of the area members. Competition from outside helps but I'd rather have all the area members interested get in. Last year was the first year it actually made a difference. And even at that everyone off the wait list was offered a slot.
  23. Hit up the MD, ken@kennelson.com. I know he had a couple wifi hubs on the range this year
  24. I'm pleased to announce that the Area 1 Championship will be returning to St. George, UT next year. The match dates have been approved and will be May 15-19, 2013. May 15-16 will be the staff match with the 17-19 being the main match. We're still working on the actual schedule but expect it to be different than the past Area 1 matches. Right now we're looking to shoot all three days, half day format. That might change as we get a bit further in the planning process. As in years past we will open the match up to Area 1 residents first till a certain date. After that we will fill the remaining slots with folks who live outside Area 1. I anticipate this match will fill, probably faster than last year. If you're in A1 and you want to have some fun in Utah again, or if you missed last year, make sure you get in early. Registration info will be posted here as well as a dedicated match website. Make sure you get your info in as soon as possible.
  25. You're right...woke up this morning, not a bit of guilt. Oh well.
