  1. I got a look at the one Bruce Gray had at the Area 2 match this year. Nice gun, certainly prettier than an STI. Don't know if it will make much of an impact. The grip has a very nice feel in my hand.
  2. The way I looked at it is why should they have an LE category? In theory, although people from each division have kicked my butt, the other divisions are people that can't shoot as well as the match winners. The idea is to give them recognition for shooting against their peers. Lady, Junior, Senior, Super Senior? Does cop really fit in with the rest of the group? I think that Military will probably go the same as LE soon.
  3. I've had horrible luck with the AET barrel and have several buddies with the same issues. The Ultimatch barrels are fine from what I understand. I'm building a singlestack with one now. My first AET was in a .40 limited gun. I used Zero and Montana Gold bullets. The barrel wore out by 7K. It was keyholding at 3yds with any ammo I tried, including factory. My second was a factory SV Tribrid. Chamber was rough enough to prevent extraction. Brass looked like someone drove over it with a truck. Had the chamber polished and brass looked ok and extraction was fixed. Friend had an AET in an Open gun. Inch groups at 25 yds for first 100 rds. By 150 the gun was keyholing at 5 yds. Another friend had a brand new gun. Factory SV 40 with an AET Bull Bbl. Gun was keyholing within 15 rounds. This was the first time it was ever shot and it couldn't even shoot straight for one stage. I asked Wil about this at the 3-Gun Nationals in Vegas. He first said that I was using Moly. When I told him I wasn't he told me I was using Vit 3N37 or 38. I told him I was using N105, he didn't believe me. Told me that I was wrong. I told him about the chamber roughness and that a gunsmith fixed it by polishing. He told me that a gunsmith couldn't polish it and that it had been fine from the beginning. He then said my favorite line and the reason that I'll never pay for another barrel from him. He said, " Some last 1500, some last 150,000." Thats not the answer I want to hear after buying for a barrel and paying to have it installed. Yes, Wil is a very smart guy. Yes, he supports the sport like few others. No, I won't have anything to do with any AET barrels.
  4. Dale's triggers are available from this site. http://bb-enterprise.biz/index2.ivnu
  5. Chuck, the weekend of the 16th would conflict with the Steel Challenge and the Area 1 3-Gun match in Bend.
  6. Is the illumination bright enough to see outside during the day?
  7. What division do you want to shoot. If you are looking for Production the recommendation would be much different from someone looking for an open class gun. There really is not a division in USPSA that the P220 Sport would excel at. (IIRC this is the model with the ugly comp hanging off the end?)
  8. Shouldn't be a problem at all. Most factory 9mm runs in the 125-135 range. A lot of people run 9mm or downloaded 40 and I've never heard anyone having a problem.
  9. Chuck Anderson Sat/Sun Master Shooting my first Major in Production. This is gonna be fun.
  10. Do you have a Finger groove and rail frame? There weren't many 24's made with this combination. The Carver mount requires this frame. If you don't then you'll need to come up with a plan B.
  11. What is the host hotel? The card I got in the mail had several hotels in a couple different cities. I don't remember which hotel I stayed at in 2003. I think it was near an Outback and a couple other restaraunts. Any ideas?
  12. Around .13 on a good day and .15 regular.
  13. I'll be shooting Production next year. I'll shoot Production in the first Nationals and L10 with the same gun and gear in Minor for the L10 Nats.
  14. I shoot my Glock 17 all the way out to about 55 yds and don't have any problem getting hits on a 5"x8" piece of steel about the size of the A zone. This is with whatever I stuff in the gun. I never tried it with the 60-90 gr bullets, and never would. If you buy a set of plain old Heine's from Brownell's it's $52.00. If you really feel later that you need the awesome speed advantage that comes from a fiber optic front sight you can buy the Dawson sight that fits the rear. If you don't think that the sight lets in enough light, take it to you smith and have him open up the notch a bit. But Heine's make a great base to start with. I just left mine alone and they seem to work just fine.
  15. Any particular reason you are limiting yourself to adjustables? I have never had a pair of Heine sights that I couldn't get to shoot to point of aim easily. The Heine's will be substantially cheaper than adjustables and they are more sturdy. I shoot my Heine's with 9mm from 115 to 147 gr with no change in point of aim.
  16. The first run of OD Glocks were limited to a single distributor. Once that run was complete Glock was free to sell through any distributor of their choosing. The OD Glocks have been available this way since early summer.
  17. Unfortuneately Caspian isn't currently making slides for the 9mm Glock. They have a few slides left for the 24 but nothing for the 34. Don't try to use the 24 slide with 9mm. I had horrible results with it. I asked Caspian when they might be making 9mm slides. They said maybe this spring, which is the same thing I've heard for 2 years. There just isn't enough market for them.
  18. Area 5 is September 23-25. The calender has it in July conflicting with Nationals.
  19. The biggest advantage to me using a lighter gun was the way the gun tracked. Shaving a couple hundredths off of a split on a target was not that important to me. The advantage I found was tracking between targets. I could get the gun swinging and stopped faster. I was shaving several hundreds to a tenth off my target to target transitions. I have a fairly light gun but nothing radical. Short dust cover, stirrup cut slide, bushing barrel and EGW lightening cuts. The gun returns perfect for me with a 12.5 lb ISMI recoil spring.
  20. The fastest I have seen recorded on my Pocket Pro is .11. Anything faster and it misses a shot.
  21. It's a little tricky to answer your question. 140 mm mags don't always measure what they are supposed to. Over the last 15 or so years STI and SV have had a couple different dies for the magazines. My understanding is that the only way to get 21 in a 40 mag is to use one of the original STI 140 mm magazines. Beven could probably answer better, but all my Beven 140 mm mags only hold 20.
  22. Tom, shoot me a message the next time you come down to Tri County or Dundee. I'll bring my two open guns and you can play with them. Both or 5", one is a 9mm built (or last worked on by Gene Shuey) and the other is a Benny gun in 38 Super Comp. Both run great. Chuck
  23. Might want to hold off on the Bushmaster for just a bit. I like the ability to use FAL mags. I really like the concept of getting rid of the charging handle latch, however, last I heard there were still some kinks with it. The plunger they use in the detent is steel and the receiver is aluminum. From talking to a couple guys that have them, after a few hundred rounds, this wears and the charging handle pops loose under recoil, popping the shooter in the face. If anyone heard if Bushmaster fixed this, let me know, this is the only thing holding me back from one of these.
  24. Thats an interesting position that you have Gary. I have started with a foot on top of the box at several matches, including several Nationals and Area matches. The only people that I have even heard argue about that not being a valid start position are some local guys. And they're normally the ones that try to DQ people for having a magazine on the belt in the safety area. I'm not sure who you instructed to be an RO but I have never had a Nationals staff member even question this start.
