  1. The three clubs I shoot have all had two setups of all the stages, with some running three on 5 to Glock. This is Shelton, WA, Roseburg, OR, and Couer D'Alene, ID. It looks like Idaho was the only club to back out this year and they've been on the cusp the last couple years.
  2. I won one of the scandium frame versions at Area 2 last year. Zero malfunctions out of 5-600 rounds. Very smooth and well built. I'm very pleased with it. Never really shot it for groups, just enough to make sure it was sighted in. No problem on plates at 40 yards though.
  3. A lot of those things are available from Broken Gun Ranch. They do all sorts of cool things to Ruger MkII and 22/45's. You can find them at www.brokengunranch.com and just look under the handgun section.
  4. There is now a new option for rear sights. David Sevigny is marketing a set of sights for the Glock that seem just perfect to me. I "think" they are made by Scott Warren? The front is a serrated black blade, similar to the Heine measuring .110 in width. The rear sight is similar to a Heine but a bit different. The rear is not serrated and there is a more abrupt edge at the front of the sight to allow one handed slide racking. The front sight installs in the conventional manner with a screw. The rear drifts in and has a set screw to lock it in place. The sight was tight enough in the dovetail that it will hold 100% even without the screw though. I bought two sets at Area 6 for $60.00 a piece. I installed the first today and shot it. The sight picture is very clean. The narrower front sight made it much easier to make head shots at 25 yards. I don't have the contact info for the seller but I'm sure David could get you set up. His web site is www.sevignyperformance.com.
  5. You should consider changing your routine for another reason as well. Cupping your hand over the slide normally tends to cover some of the ejection port. I've seen dozens of times where, doing tap, rack this way, this has induced malfunctions. The ejecting round bounces off the hand and back into the port. The theory, as I understand it, behind cupping the hand over was that it was stronger and a gross motor skill. The proponents said the slingshot technique was weak and dainty. If you do it incorrectly it is. Use the same cupped over the top grip and turn it 180 degrees. You still get a full grip but clear the ejection port.
  6. I take a dremel and trim mine forward so that there is only about 1/4 - 1/8 of an inch coming back. I also trim it smaller.
  7. The chip is a result of assembling the gun with the rod on the square cut on the underlug of the barrel instead of the round cut. It feels okay and assembles but the rod chips within the first couple rounds. It is a shooter error, not the gun design or faulty part. Buy a couple rods when you get them and just be careful when you assemble the gun that the round part of the rod goes in the round slot on the bbl.
  8. Shot a three gun match yesterday with Pistol Cal Carbines. Had three Mech Techs on the squad, one STI based the other two Glock 9mm. The STI funtioned perfectly, they all do that I have seen. The Glock one sucked. One guy had one stage without malfunction. The rest of the stages did not go so well. I'm not impressed and would not buy one. Olympic Arms is making a Glock Lower AR. It looks like a conventional 9mm AR but the lower receiver is manufactured to take Glock Mags. I haven't seen one but I was wondering if anyone had tried one. I never had great luck with Oly Arms but it was better than the Mech Tech
  9. Harmon, just wanted to make sure you had been following the thread regarding the SP01 in the rules section. Currently it has been removed from the IPSC and USPSA lists as a production gun. It may come back in the US but I imagine it's fate is sealed on the IPSC side.
  10. I'd love to see a shootoff. Kills time while waiting for the stats to be done.
  11. Jim Shanahan at APS can modify your grip and paint it as well. The paint does seem to cause it to be a liitle more slippery but if you get the grip enhancement done, it's not going to slide.
  12. Mike announced at our local match yesterday that the Freedom 3 Gun will no longer be 4 shooters. It will be three person teams, open, limited and tactical.
  13. I find it interesting that one of the arguments being used to rail against the removal of the CZ guns is that they are now useless hunks of non-competetive metal. That previous buyers are now stuck with a gun that can't be used. It seems to me that kind of proves IPSC's point. I personally don't care either way about the CZ. I do think that Tanfoglio went well overboard with their "Production" gun. The pictures that I saw look like a Tanfolio limited gun with full mag well, huge cap mags etc. I'm not thrilled with the way that IPSC went about it but it seems that there needed to be some limits put on what exactly a production gun should be. Since there were only a relative few SP-01 and Tanfoglio Production models in personal hands it seems like it was probably better to do it this year instead of waiting till more were available. I don't know enough about the P-01 to comment. But comparing the steel dustcovered SP-01 to the 1/2 oz of plastic on Glock's "full dustcover" seems a bit disingenous. And for IPSC matches with a five pound DA first pull requirement, I really doubt that having a "single action" gun with a five pound + pull for every shot is anything resembling an advantage over the CZ's, Beretta's and Sig's that I have handled with a 6-7 lb DA first pull and 2 lb every additional shot.
  14. I've used the KKM conversion with a Caspian 24 slide. The issues that I had were lack of reliability with extraction. Since then a couple of forum members have suggested fixes with different extractors and welding up the extractor. I haven't tried these yet so I can't really speak to whether they will work or not. It's just not worth the frustration to me anymore.
  15. The only problem with following the model of police guns is that there is some weird crap out there being used by cops. There is an agency that issues Glock 18's to officers, several that authorize SV/STI style guns, and we've got a neighboring county that has officers carrying Desert Eagles and H&K Socoms. Trust me, cops are not the best judges for what is production suitable.
  16. At the end of the stage when the shooter was pulling the gun out to check to see if it was safe. Still not as bad as when they started me on Stage 8 with 2 RO's still downrange. Stopped me before the third target at least.
  17. There seemed to be some inconsistencies with the grounding of guns. I was told at least three different ways the guns had to be grounded, i.e. empty mag in, safety off, bolt back; mag out, bolt back, safety off; or empty mag in, bolt forward, safety off. I like the idea of grounding the hot guns but I think this seemed a bit last minute. They need to do a bit better job of letting the RO's know just what they want. I also had a couple of those unloaded or safe guns pointed at me so I would just as soon have the safety on at least, stage 9 was the worst.
  18. Another advantage is transitions from target to target. A heavy gun might be more stable for firing a double tap on a stationary target. But, a lightened gun is easier to start moving and stop on another target. The lightening, for me, also greatly reduces muzzle flip. My .40 shoots extremely fast and flat but is quick from the holster to the first target and on transitions.
  19. Phil, did you get your slot yet? Supposedly once you pay your money and get the official slot they send you the code to get the cheap hotel rates. I'm certainly hoping that $2500.00 isn't the special rate.
  20. You were right to change the title Kyle. Blackhawk has no affiliation with Blackwater. They recently sent out an email to this effect. Todd Jarrett has an association with Blackwater and they may be selling his holsters but they're not making them. The holsters are manufactured by another company that Blackhawk Products Group recently acquired. For those that are going to use the holster for carry, consider the carbon fiber model. I thought it was a gimmick to make it look cool when I first saw it. However, it is much quieter than kydex. Whenever I carry a kydex holster concealed there always seems to be that spare button that rubs on the holster. When it rubs on the carbon fiber it doesn't sound anywhere near as scratchy. Chuck
  21. I'll be there. I missed the last Area 1 in Montana and heard it was beautiful. No way I'm missing this one.
  22. Production 46 Points 5.88 Seconds 7.8231 HF Dropped two C on the right paper before switching to the poppers. Little slow on the reload.
  23. Production 104 pts 15.14 seconds HF 6.8692 No % from USPSA yet.
  24. Does anybody have any idea when the US will decide who gets slots off the waiting list? I'd kinda like to start planning but not till I hear something official.
