  1. There's a little rubber gasket in the magwell. It's there to keep water out during maritime operations. If you're not planning on taking the gun diving the guys at FN said that you can remove it and the mags will drop free.
  2. Give it to your dad and see what he can do with it. It's been so long since you shot a match ya probably forgot that the trigger is supposed to go straight back.
  3. I talked to Kim a week or two ago. She said that the section activity counts were due Jan 31 (today). After they're all received she said she would calculate who gets what and send them out. I know she has already started calling Area winners etc.
  4. Wow and I thought last years RM3G was light on pistol.
  5. I absolutely agree that it's all about manipulation. I thought that was kind of obvious. Otherwise the 16 would be quicker overall, which it's not. But there have been a few stages with those tight ports, 05 MG in Reno and the 06 Ironman that would have benefitted from a stubby tube. I have seen the big boys lose a step or two on those stages. But like I said the pros outweigh the cons using the longer tube. I won't be using a 16" but I should have my 18" gun by this season. I can probably bring my work 16" to the A1 MG and shoot it after the match if that would work.
  6. Handled one at the SHOT Show and got to try reloading. It's got an auto load feature like the Browning. The down side is there is nothing to keep the shell lined up with the tube. Basically you have to line the front of the shell up with the tube with no point of reference. I really didn't like it. They said that it will take extended mag tubes. Shoulda seen the look they gave me when I talked about it for 3-Gun. Guessing the trap and skeet crowd don't have a lot of use for a 22" bbl gun with an 8 round tube.
  7. The 16" is faster for CQB work than the 20. Without question. I've used both and for a very few CQB stages the 16" is quicker. And George, I'll take you up on that. As far as what I use for competition, I've got a 20" JP, switching to an 18" JP soon though. The trade offs for me are worth the slightly slower CQB performance. I like having the full length gas system and forend. The accuracy in my gun is also great. Every now and then someone will say you don't need a very accurrate rifle for this game. We only shoot 10" plates at 350 yds. So as long as it shoots within a couple inches at 100 yds great right? Mine shoots about 1/2 inch which give me a lot more wiggle room and the ability to be a bit sloppier when I get to those long range stages.
  8. I asked about a 9mm version of the 627 at the Performance Center section of the S&W booth at the SHOT Show. They looked at me like I had two heads. His take was they will not be building a 9mm version of that gun. Bummer.
  9. That would be the Aimpoint Micro (See the top picture) How about the ability to turn it on and leave it on full power for 8 years. That would seem to be a pretty good improvement to me. The switch is also a lot sturdier. The Aimpoint guys said they were whacking it against the concrete floor and couldn't break it.
  10. Modify the mag release all you want. Shouldn't be a problem in any USPSA Division and nothing against it that I've seen in any IMGA matches.
  11. There was some talk about this at the last Multi-Gun Nationals. John Amidon told me that a vert foregrip is "similar" to a bipod and would put the shooter into Open Division. He also said that if a shooter removed one during the match that it would be changing the configuration of the gun and would result in a match DQ. Not my opinion but it's what he told me. I know that they are working on a some changes to the MG rules to address that issue. As far as using one on a 308, I think you'd be better off with a good comp. I haven't had good luck with Vert foregrips no AR's. Other folks have. Erik Lund uses one a lot and does very well with it.
  12. I take a bunch of 30's, a couple 20's, a 40, a 45 and my Beta. The 30's get me through most stages. The 40 and 45 are nice on short range stages but they suck to go prone with. That's where the Beta shines. Nice low profile. It's entirely possible to get by with only using 30's or 20's. Heck it's possible to go shoot the Open Nationals with a Limited gun or even a singlestack. The downside is you're giving up options. It's the same as golf. I'd rather have more club choices than not enough. It's all well and good to say that good course design will alleviate the courses where there is nowhere to do a reload. But, I've shot a lot of matches with poor (okay, they were really fun) course design. I lost about 4 places at Superstition a few years ago because I had to do a reload on a rifle stage. Wasn't so much the reload as just having switched to Arredondo's mag bridge and forgot my spare went bye-bye when I hit the mag release. Took a little while to go back and fish it out of the dirt.
  13. Check out the Magpul AR mags that are below the rifle as well. They felt really good. First plastic mag that I've actually wanted to try.
  14. I know a guy that can hook you up with the perfect holster, the Blade-Tech Stingray, or a servicable holster the CQC from Blackhawk (without Serpa).
  15. I got a chance to shoot one at the Media day before the show started. Pretty unremarkable. Not bad, not good, just didn't blow me away. The one thing I did notice is the mag release is further forward than on the AR type guns. I couldn't reach it without substantially changing my grip. Not as bad as an H&K94 but still too far for me.
  16. Wearing non electronics you're also more likely to damage your hearing at the range. Normally when folks are wearing regular muffs I'll see them pull them off a lot more to talk to their friends etc. When they do and the shots are being fired damage occurs. The electronics allow me to hear and communicate without pulling them off my head.
  17. The MOR match is still up in the air at this point. It'll depend on how much interest there is and how many folks sign up. I doubt Tom's gonna hold if we only get 5 guys to shoot it. If you want it, send the apps in ASAP. That said the apps will hopefully be up soon. We're just taunting you now.
  18. Just spend the last several days at the SHOT Show talking to a lot of the sponsors that we had for the Area 1 Pistol Match last year. As well as meeting a lot of new folks that are interested in supporting our three gun match. We'll definitely be having a nice prize table there. It's too early to say just how nice but it's gonna make for a great match. Hope to see you all there. Make sure to get your entries in soon. We're probably going to fill up and I don't want anyone from the Forums to get left out. Chuck
  19. Sales tax on an internet order going out of state? Sales tax usually applies to same state purchases. Weird. Rich Nope, just if you live in Texas as well. I buy from CDNN all the time and have never paid sales tax.
  20. I have used the Pro-Ears, Peltor 6 and 7, Dillon and MSA Supreme (Which I think is the same thing as the Sordin Muffs) For me I didn't get very good results with 3 or 4 pairs of the Dillons that I've tried. The plastic on the squishy part of the muff always cracked very quickly. And they didn't stop enough sound for me. The Pro-Ears I didn't really like, don't remember why, I haven't used them for a few years. I've had the most experience with the Peltors. I've worn them for years as a firearms instructor in Oregon on an outdoor range. They've gotten absolutely drenched and kept on working. I've only had to replace 2 or three pair and that normally as a result of abuse. That said the newer models that we've been getting don't seem to hold up as long as the stuff I got 10 years ago. Not sure what the change is. We just seem to send all the new muffs back while the older ones are still working. But the MSA's are my new favorite muff. Closest thing to a mil-spec ear-muff that I could find. They're strong as heck, I can't imagine where water would get in and the sound quality is great. There's no clipping because they just reduce the sound level, not cut it off completely. And I can't imagine better customer service. I had my first pair fail on me about 2 months after I got them. Not sure why. I waited around for a month before I did anything about it. When I called them it wasn't the standard company rap of send them in and we'll look at them. They sent me out a brand new pair and a shipping label to ship the other set back once I got the new ones. But it gets better. In the process of waiting that month, they wandered off and I lost them. MSA said keep the muffs and if I ever do find the damaged set to send them back. No charge. This is customer service, dare I say, even better than Dillon.
  21. Sorry, I was basing that guess on the last World Shoot. I didn't see anyone at GM. I know the Production winner was A class and there were a bunch of others with what seemed like lower level class rankings that finished really high. I wouldn't worry about being classified for this match. Doesn't seem like hardly anyone in IPSC is anyway.
