  1. What OAL can the 147s be loaded to in that barrel or is 1.140 it?
  2. Both will work. I see tack drivers in both. I run a 6" bushing barrel Eagle in 3gun, because it came that way and I would do it again.
  3. Just what constitutes "any and all ammo"? Need a little more info about what has been tried so far. Reloaded, factory, bullet weights, bullet OAL, etc. That might narrow the number and type of responses.
  4. A friend of mine shot a 30+ round rifle stage at a 3gun match in MO without hearing protection. It was a long ride back from MO to NC and he talked really loud.
  5. I shot revolvers for 30 years, both single and double action. I hardly ever shot a semi auto pistol until I took my wife's 1911 to a USPSA match. I never liked shooting a semi auto because I hated picking up the brass. USPSA changed that. Within 3 months I had bought a P-14, a Dillon 550, and had gotten used to picking up brass. (You can always tell an old reloader, even from a distance, because they are always looking at the ground when on the range.) The revolvers quickly developed the feeling of a somewhat alien object when in my hand. The Para felt too large at first but that quickly went away. Hi-PowerJack, if you could make my Glocks feel like my 2011s, I would love it! The bottom line is that you will get over the initial feel/dislike for whatever you pick up. If you don't then get something else.
  6. Congrats on the win Bryan. I went Full on stage 5 just to be sure because the steel at 26 yards was so small. I tell people, "Keep your head down, & shoot it like a rifle." at every match. I keep my 10/22 rear sight flipped up all the time.
  7. I figured that one out when they went from having primers on edge in rows of 10 to putting them in individual cells. I thought that was why they did it, that and it probably had something to do with lawyers........everything does.
  8. Brass laid out on an old towel in the sunshine is quick and easy. Polish enough brass in the summer to last the winter.
  9. Just save them all until you have enough to justify a primer pocket swager.
  10. +1 My brother has a Springfield that has this exact issue. He has had that gun for at least 12 years so apparently Springfield has no plans to fix that issue. He took it to a machinist who was VERY reluctant to try and flatten the breach face since it would have to be done from the muzzle end of the slide with a very long and unsupported mill, which he did not have. I suppose a REAL gunsmith could fix it but I would be selective about who was going to do it.

    primers

I quit buying small pistol a long time back. I now use SR primers exclusively in my 19/2011 guns with extended firing pins. With a 17# mainspring it would failed to fire. The extended firing pin fixed that problem. Striker fired guns still get a diet of SP primers, of which I still have an abundance. I have never changed anything else in the reload recipe because of SR primers.
  12. After finishing the last Remington Versa Max match one thing still rings true. If you THINK the choke you selected is going to be OK then you will KNOW after you finish the stage. I like to KNOW that I am that I am not going to wish I had used more choke after the stage is over. It was a long day for some LM shooters. I went to a Full on one stage and was glad I did.
  13. I guess one advantage of being a lefty is that I can easily watch the round being chambered without any effort so I had always put the press check in the same category as taking a sight picture. I know what my sights are going to look like so I don't waste my time making sure. If I was using a dot it would be different.
  14. Has anyone else ever slugged a bore this way.
  15. 700X smokes a lot but it does work
  16. I have noticed that if I pause for about 1.5 seconds after the press cams over TDC the sized cases are more consistent in the check die. They were even more consistent when went from sizing 223 on a 550 to a 650. That was probably because the 650 is more robust with less spring in it. Not sure about the LNL but it would be easy to try.
  17. I had a jug of 748 that had a wad of foreign material in it. As I was pouring powder into the measure I noticed the lump going in. Upon examination it looked like some kind of compressed fiber. I never figured out what it was but a magnet would pick it up. It was about the size of a pencil eraser. Now I pour all powder through a strainer. I was loading 223 and it would have been too big to go into a case and would probably have gotten lodged in the measures powder bar. No one I know has ever had a similar experience but maybe you just did.
  18. If you like shotgun then this was THE place to be. With one stage having 15 buckshot and 15 slugs it was almost enough to put you in the dentists chair. Great stage. Congrats to Damon and John for putting on a great match. It got just a little sloppy by the end of the day but it was a blast.
  19. I see a LOT of shooters 'make ready' by inserting a mag, racking the slide, and then pulling the slide back enough to make sure that a round is in the chamber. Has any one ever NOT seen a bullet in the chamber?
  20. You say "On my setup I do get occasional coat/lead shavings, but very minor." That said, you could expect to "have some minor keyhole issues". I would try belling the case mouth more and eliminate the lead shaving issue.
  21. Dimensional errors may be individually insignificant but when stacked together can cause problems which can be hard to diagnose.
  22. I would like to see the first round shot under a tin roof after doing that.
  23. I haven't tried the 3 die set all but based on my experience with my 550 I have used RCBS, LEE, Redding, Herters, Lyman, and Dillon dies. It doesn't matter whose dies you use as long as they are 7/8 X 14TPI and I've never seen any that were not and the Lymans I have seen were. I wouldn't hesitate to use a 3 die set from Lyman. That said I don't like their decapping pin as it was easily bent and I haven't used them in decades. Maybe they are more robust these days. For $25 it would be hard to go wrong. But if the size die has been scratched inside you won't like it when you resize your brass so beware of that before you buy I would suggest you see a piece of brass run through the sizer if at all possible. There could be equal deals on RCBS dies on E*%$#bay. I think RCBS are better dies. Do you intend to load for a bolt action or semi auto/slide action?
  24. +1 for Uncle TK AND olemiss When I was shooting USPSA with a 2011, N310 was all I used for big matches. Less smoke than Red Dot and soft recoil pulse. My 180gr bullets were also loaded at 1.180". I've never seen any published data for that load but I shot a LOT of it with no problems. When Clays was the "next big thing" I saw enough bad signs to keep me running N310 no matter how cheap the price of Clays. I never loaded it any shorter. 4.0 grains was my load also
