  1. I recently bought two of the cobramags to test and so far, after about 300 rounds each, 100%. I'd like to get some more if I find a deal.
  2. I've gotten recommendations from these guys, haven't tried them yet though. http://www.keadbullets.com/
  3. Red Fiber front, black rear seems to work best for me. I like the tritium front sights too but I recently found out the hard way that they don't show up too well on white painted plates. That gun now has an EGW red FO front sight too.
  4. I have MetalForm rubber base pads on my singlestack 9mm mags. They very durable. I cannot recall wear they came from but I'm sure Google can find them
  5. That's the baddest BBQ I've ever seen!
  6. The first time I disassembled a Glock, I somehow launched the locking block pin into oblivion. I had a bunch of junk piled up in the corner of my garage to take to goodwill (over 15ft away). That's where I found it after about 2 hours of searching.
  7. I've seen a few different things cause the slide not to lock back. Mag followers, you've already replaced. Thumb riding to close or touching the slide stop and preventing it from moving up into slide lock notch OR, worn out slide stop are pretty common.
  8. 14lb wolff variable recoil spring and a 19lb Ed Brown mainspring OR a 17lb wolff mainspring, depending on the gun. I'm shooting 173pf ammo.
  9. I haven't seen this. Looks like a Metalform follower, which I like a lot. How much are they?
  10. How about a Hang Fire? Could the hammer have fallen on that round and not fired immediately and you didn't catch it because you were going into the reload?
  11. That's one fine vehicle. No doubt about it. Like you, I've always wanted a vette but have never reached the point of commitment. Expensive to buy, expensive to insure, expensive to own. That formula just doesn't fit anywhere in my life, unfortunately.
  12. Is it possible that a barrel can get hot enough to "cook off" a round that's in the chamber? How hot would that be, exactly?
  13. It's probably safe to shoot but it probably won't shoot very well. A buddy of mine also totalled an XD barrel by leaving it submerged in the same mixture. His was pitted inside AND out. Whoops. He replaced the barrel. I also use the peroxide/vinegar solution to clean mine but I only let it soak about 15 minutes, not hours, minutes.
  14. I'm starting to see a trend in the way I have been shooting IDPA stages. On the stages that have little movement, even ones with complicated and or tight shots with swingers, non-threats, long distance etc, I do well. On stages that involve multiple shooting positions, I am losing a bunch of time, somewhere. I "think" I am either waiting too long to move after the last shot at position A and/or taking too long to make the first shot from position B. How can I program my brain to start and stop my motion closer to the start/stop point of a position change? I do fine shooting on the move, it's moving fast between positions when NOT shooting that I need help on. Thanks Gary
  15. Nope, not fake. I hear they can run 40mph and like the taste of polymer too.
  16. I got 15 of 20 correct. I'm not old enough for some of those questions.
  17. Ha! Yeah, I meant splits with the revolver, not transitions.
  18. I used to fly Delta quite often. Then they basically ceased operations at DFW and have very few flights and none are direct unless you're going to Cinci, Salt Lake or Atlanta. I haven't flown them in years. The behavior and treatment described is not unlike that which I have received from AA in recent times. The entire airline industry, especially the customer service side, is in the tank. I have over 1M miles on American but have only taken 3 flights this year. I'd rather drive than take the abuse I'm gauranteed to get from the airlines.
  19. I do spend a lot of time practicing transitions. But have not recorded times with a semi auto. My transitions with a revolver, which is what I've shot mostly, average .14-.17. This was just an experiment to see what was possible (for me). Now that I know how fast I can pull the trigger on a semi, I have something to base future practice on. And knowing how fast more experienced shooters can go, I have a goal to work towards.
  20. I am sure you're right about that. It never even crossed my mind that I could outrun the gun. I just didn't know what the gun is capable of doing, in the mechanical sense. If it was a class 3 weapon for example. I forgot to put it in the original post but my little Kimber Ultra CDP participated in this excercise also. Total time was 1.13 but I don't remember the splits.
  21. I spent some time at the range with a friend this morning and tried an experiment. Which can I shoot faster, my SA 1911 or my Glock 21? (both 45acp of course). Using CED7000 shot timer, starting from low ready, finger off the trigger, target at 5 yards. At the buzzer, fire 5 shots as fast as I can. 1911: 0.77 seconds with 0.19 to the first shot. 0 down. Splits ranged between 0.9 and 0.14 G21: 0.89 seconds and .24 to the first shot. 0 down. Splits ranged between 0.10 and 0.12 Interestingly, my splits were more consistent with the G21 but lowest splits were faster with the 1911. Meaningless data I'm sure but it was fun. How fast can either a 1911 or a Glock physically cycle? Since this was the first time I've tried this, I have nothing to compare the times to. Has anyone else done something similar and written the times down? I consider myself an intermediate shooter but striving to improve. What kind of times would, say, TGO, get in this experiment? Gary
  22. I've seen this before. What I find most disturbing is that there are enough people that think this would be a good idea, that they've actually produced them. The only acceptable use that I can come up with is that it would be helpful in keeping track of prison inmates. Especially when being transferred from one facility to another. As for their use on private citizens, no damn way.
  23. emergency repair on a holiday weekend and delivered to you at the match... Well, if the gun works properly now, in my opinion, it was worth every penny and you were lucky to have access to a gunsmith and get it fixed on zero notice. It also sounds like the smith did a good job of explaining exactly what he did and why. My .02
  24. I recently put an Ed Brown grip safety on a Kimber and it didn't require much fitting to be functional but it required quite a bit of metal removal to blend it in and make all the lines match up between the GS and frame.
