  1. Something about blasting off that shotgun just tickles that specail place in my heart
  2. A friends FN was subject to jamming, and we rounded off the face of the chamber, (credit goes to 00bullit) , and he has not had an issue since. My personal FN has jammed exactly ONE TIME, during the first 25 rounds out of the gun (winchester bulk). I have sice ran something like 800 rounds of federal bulk with no issues at all.
  3. Pro grip will evaporate sweat very well. I'd try some of that before investjing in any gloves at all. I found out about it on my last stage at area 4 last year, and my gun might as well have been a dead fish before I tried it, I had no idea it was squirming as much as it was, my grip was rock solid once I applied some Progrip, and I murdered that stage! It was awesome!
  4. I've only had experience with Dawson, and I like them. I couldn't see anything else being "better", but at least as good.
  5. Differences in atmospheric humidity/temperature should be no "large" factor when measuring pistol bullet velocity at 10 feet. But, I've never tested this. If the powder/barrel temp is the same (no other varibles besides air temp), bullets should leave the muzzle at the same velocity (theoretically).
  6. Jerry Miculek once said that "if you look at your holes, you've already lost."
  7. I'm thinking this is not true, I bring warm optics into the cold all the time, and they do not condensate..... but when I come back in AFTER they are cold into the warm... yes, fog. I bring my chrono out from the warm, and it works fine.
  8. Yea, I hope it's ok too, cause I've done it a bunch!
  9. It's doable, but not competitive at all. Long range shooting suffers from what I've heard. Go to a local 3gun match, and give it a try though. You could use it to learn the fundamentals of 3gunnin at the very least, while also checking out others AR-15 rigs, to see what you like. When you decide to upgrade you won't be doing it blindly.
  10. KyleO: Should have clarified my post a little better. Am wanting to run a 1-4x scope, with the Dueck Defense rapid transition sights(45 degree offset). I know a lot of open shooters run this setup, but it looks like its okay as long as I interpreted the rules correctly? Gotcha! I think I must have been the confused one, nothing new there.
  11. as long as the magnified optic, cannot be used as an amiming device, then I'd say your good, but I would like to question your reasoning for this setup?
  12. I do my weakhand loading 4 shells at a time, so it's easier to grab all in the holder, rather than "feeling" for 4, I also own some 6 round holders, but only use those as a supplement on large stages. Also, the 6 rounders leave some nasty bruises on your beer gut
  13. I live like no one else, so no debt, very few bills, all the extra money goes to guns, airplanes, and retirement funds.
  14. It makes sure that the timing stays correct... When you weld up the end, you are adding more weight that the spring didn't have to account for initially, so removing enough material to balance it is key... remember though, if you are removing material closer to the axis, it has less of an effect.... I don't have a 930, but it seems if the lifter could compensate for the weight of a shotgun shell sitting there without missing a beat (with different weight shells also), the the little bit of weld there would be an afterthought in my mind. Am I missing something here?
  15. If the next shot is on the same target keep your focus where the front site will land, if you must transition to the next target, your focus should be shifting there during recoil
  16. The quick change is nice, but let's face it, there is a lot of down time in 3 gun. If I need to reconfigure my belt, it usually takes me longer to figure it out mentally, than it does to physically change out my stuff. Cheaper too.
  17. Just to add, if your gonna practice live fire, GO AS FAST AS YOU CAN! Your not loosing any points in practice, and you will figure out quickly what is too fast vs. not fast enough, you should have at least left 1-2 clays, then back down a notch, then you have found your speed. It's the way I practice, and I've been getting faster in matches knowing how fast to push myself. Keep it up though! I can tell by the weather you have dedication Snow on the ground, our world shuts down in Louisiana!
  18. The vent rib tends to sight faster, and of course the weight savings makes it more nimble when transitioning targets. Slugs, and the pattern are high vs. what I'm used to with the SLP (I think the stock comb can be adjusted though), missed some slug targets at a local match due to this. As far as loading, after I "adjusted" the port to my specifications, I can load it the same speed I could the SLP, however with some practice, I am even faster now. Overall, I just got it because I got to handle one, and really liked it, nothing was or is wrong with the SLP, both are great shotguns, but the SLP took some more work to get there, where as the salient was ready out of the box.
  19. Just be sure about what your doing! I did far more prep/planning than actual cutting. Make SURE you know what is stopping the follower, and never cut that part. On the benelli there is a ridge that stops the follower. I made certain to leave some at 10, 2, 7, & 5 o'clock. So the follower would always land square. Also, have some progressively fine grits of sandpaper to finish it out with. Just remember the dremeler's motto: you can always take off some more, but you can never put it back
  20. Practice live fire, while conciously working on leaning forward, maybe while doing Bill Drills? Bad habits are hard to break, but you gotta try
  21. Just get some from AR15 targets, or MGM, both who support our sport, and have great products. That is if you don't have the proper tools to do it yourself, not trying to push you against doing this, but I bought some from both, and am happy thus far. Money well spent!
  22. la as in Louisiana? I may be able to help if so. OH, and welcome!
  23. Something I noticed at SEVERAL matches over the years is the ability to consistantly get long range hits called correctly for all shooters. Larues and MGM flash are really good for this, but I've seen people hit targets, and not have hit called, and miss and have hit called. I believe this is going to be more important than penalty times. Example: The last 2 local matches I shot, on the long range stages, I couldn't tell myself if I was hitting (static steel), but when the video was reviewed when I got back to the house, it turned out I would hit a target 4-6 times, before it was called. I didn't really care, as it was local, but for "big" matches, I think this is the most vital part of LR scoring. BTW, I agree with trapr about proper presentation, but calling hits still would matter in that situation as well, so if a penalty is gonna be assigned for say >300, then I vote 15 sec. 10 seems short, 20 seems excessive, and as you stated, 30 will make or break you. Good luck!
  24. It's all good to me, they do the same thing at the Pro-Am. I sign up for both divisions, it really doesn't bother me, and it's cheaper to shoot the second one! Another benefit is if you have some kind of catastrophic failure, like a squib, or case head separation that gets stuck, then you've got another go at it the next day. I do understand your point, but there are pros/cons to everything, just gotta decide if you want to make it an advantage or not.
