  1. It was the only match I overheated at last year, started feeling very nauseous Right before that, I zeroed a stage, because my dumb heatstroked arse forgot to download my 11 round "starter mag" for a barrel start.
  2. I recently switched to a 250yd zero. 2.5" high at 150yds is the highpoint, and 4" low at 300. Sofar, I really like it. I haven't got dope yet on 400-500, but I suspect I will soon.
  3. I really was going for the "shock and awe" with the title These weren't heavy duty mods, just some "personal touches". As far as the 45 degree shell angle thing, thats when I do it wrong, but I still want them to go in easy when I fk it up. Just patterned it, and I like the modified choke for just an "all around", slugs don't group very well with it, but still gonna try some different slugs/choke combos before I pull the dremel out again just kidding, just kidding, no more dremel necessary, sorry if I scared you guys.
  4. Well, installation complete, I'm gonna let it cure for a few days, and see if I've created something worthwhile. And, special thanks to Jim, I really appreciate your guidance with this.
  5. We know that I'm a drug dealer, but Pimp? Sure, why not.
  6. Well, don't misunderstand completely, it is good to go out of the box, but I had done extreme mods to my FN, and have learned to load with it that way, so it was more "me rather than the gun". The "speed bump" on the top of the mag tube is actually the follower stop, and I only removed about 3/8" of the circumference, just so a shell would grease past it (seems you have a point on this part though). Now, my burned in habits don't have to change. If you get this gun, and learn to load with it, then you'll never notice. Or, if you switched from a bone stock FN, then you'll be like it really is that much better.
  7. It looks good to me, thumb placement will vary slightly with each thumb. If it's on the safety, then it's where it should be. Most important, is to get this grip the same way, with each draw.
  8. Yes, but the FN kept biting me, it was more like punishment for it. For this beautiful Salient though, well, think of it as a beautiful Italian supermodel, who now wears the right kinda make-up.
  9. You guys thought it was a joke right? Well, I could load it at least as fast as my SLP, but was having way too many fumbles. I figured it's just new, I need to get used to it, so tonight I tried again, but kept on. Two kinds of fumbles: 1. Not getting the shells far enough in to engage the catch, and having the shell follow my thumb back (or pop out on the floor). 2. If I pushed the shell in at greater than a 45 degree angle to the mag tube, the lip of the shell would catch at the top of the magazine, and stick until I shallowed the angle of the shell. (imagine thinking, "why. won't. you. go. in?" I just touched the top of the mag tube (enough to remove the speed bump), but did far more aggressive removal at the bottom to extend the port forward. It loads sooo much smoother now! Gonna do patterns tomorrow, and check slug hits out, should be a fun day of shotgunning. Here some pics of what I did. Aside from that, this thing is great!
  10. If your going to be competitive, the right gear will be necessary.
  11. About the tube extensions, I like mine to stick out a little, if your on deck or standing there for a couple of minutes (say there was an equipment malfunction downrange) it allows you to prop up on the gun on the extension without worrying about putting your muzzle in the ground. Disclaimer....I'm not a weakling, or too lazy to hold my shotgun, it just has given me the chance to completely relax, and breathe a few cleansing breaths before a stage. Besides, it's very Open Division-esque
  12. Tony told me there would be no more until April 2011, due to there not being enough M2 around until then. I just barely got in on the latest build. But, please get in touch with him, he's great to deal with.
  13. The 2nd worst I ever felt at a match, was when the first 2 shots went below PF. The 3rd one saved the day, but I don't cut it close anymore!
  14. Wet the bucket with soapy dish water bubbles, DO NOT RINSE, but just let the soap bubbles dry.
  15. Seriously, it might matter with precision rifle competition when thousandths of an inch matter, but for what we do, or even hunting, or varmiting, it's not gonna make a difference that would be even noticed. Flush or less is good enough, I promise!
  16. I agree, Dawson sights first (it's exactly what I shoot in 3-gun) I put in a 3lb ghost disconnector, and that's it.
  17. These are the things I PM'd you about. You could take this stuff, and some components, do a couple hours worth of reading, and start loading some stuff. It's a great hobby that has given me years of pleasure.
  18. No apologies necessary, Good info is good info! I happen to live just a skip & jump away from Clarks, so I checked with them first, and got a 16" handguard (not offered in catalog), just down the road, so thought I'd give it a try (as well as learn some basic ar smithing stuff while at it), but wanted to get the inside info from the good folks here before I started doing something stupid like gluing the nut on with locktite or something Would you put the RTV on the bbl extension if you had it already? It's a bushmaster carbine upper receiver, and a Noveske barrel. And we thought you were a Sharp guy:blink: , Why not take it to Jimmy Clark if you are close and let him do his magic on it. Do you have any Idea how many rifle trophy's Mr Jimmy Clark has? OH, yes by all means JC could build a superior rifle, shoot better than I also, but this project is about me learning new things, and not matching a custom smiths work. I'm a tinkerer by nature, and this has always been on my "want to learn how" list. So, now the time is upon me to ask these things.

  20. Getting capacity is OK, but I would put any extra money to the side for what your gonna REALLY want 6mos or a year down the road. Most important thing is to get out there, and shoot. Barrel length I'd leave alone, unless this is gonna be THE 3 gun shotgun. My .02
  21. Use some krylon spray paint, it's pretty cheap.
  22. I'm going, but if it's in Florida, I'm gonna need 3 folks to split the airplane with!
  23. Good choice on the SLP, I have shot mine for a couple of years now, and still like it. Just do yourself a favor though and don't EVER play with a Salient M2!
