USPSA Multi gun Nationals in Las Vegas?

Recommended Posts

Stages are still in development and nothing has gotten final approval yet by MV or NROI. However, it's a safe bet you'll see LaRue Sniper targets engaged from 200yd.s out to 325yd.s. The exact distances won't be known until we build bunkers and place the LaRues.

Your best option is to know your zero and holdovers from 3.5 out to 350 yd.s (or so). Don't forget that you'll be scored for your 2 best hits on paper with points down for C and D hits.

Hotel Reccomendations???? Anybody going to stay on or near the strip and drive in each day? What kind of drive time is that?

Can't be too far of a drive if you stay on the end of the strip around the Luxor area. Last time I was out there was early 90s for the SOF match and the Desert sportsman range wasn't too bad a drive. Pretty much a straight shot out. You sure did change for the awards ceremony at DPMS! :roflol:

Steve,

Vegas has changed a great deal since the early 90's. What would have taken you less than a few minutes then has tripled in time if not more now. Vegas is right on top of Desert Sportmans range now. I don't even know if it is still open. I'm staying at the Luxor with my wife this year, should be about 20-25 miles to the range from the south end.

The 2 significant Hotels closest to the Boulder City Range are the Sunset Station and the Fiesta Station. There's plenty of restaurants and the Galleria Mall close by. There are a couple of small Hotel/Casinos at the extreme north and south ends of Boulder City but they're not much to look at. There's also a few Motels in old town Boulder if you really want to stay close to the range. Just gotta remember Boulder is a small town and the wait in the Restaurants, especially on the weekend, is gonna be long (kinda like Raton).

The drive from one of the strip Hotels will generally run 35-40 minutes. The worst part is getting to the freeway. Check out http://www.brpc1.org/mapdrive.htm for driving directions.

See You There!

It seems that the range is about 25 miles from the Strip. Is is better to stay in closer to the range (at one of the recommend places) or in downtown LV?

That is a tough question. I will be staying on the strip. I will also be staying in Vegas for an extra week. God I love that place.

What's the skinny on the Larue targets? What is there actual size? Does a good hit with 55's work or is a heavier bullet necessary?

It seems like there was a discussion about them tied to SMM3G, I searched but couldn't find it.

Thanks, Craig

You know, after you factor in the total expense of the trip inclusive, the cost difference between 55's and 69's is negligable, and you KNOW they will react to the heavier pills.. After all other things conisdered I wouldn't even think twice about going with a heavier load for a big dog match.

Ken,

Not so much cost issues as I don't have any components for the heavies on hand. Went to the Kurt Miller idea of shooting all 55s all the time and just running Nosler BT's at majors. There was some chatter two years ago about R&R's plate racks not working well with lighter bullets, however I have had no problems. In my experience, it is usually much more about the quality of the hit than the bullet weight, just haven't had a lot of time with the Larues and wanted to hears some stories :D

Thanks, Craig. Craig What is your most accurate load at 300 yards? . I shoot the heaveir bullets at at long range cause I have more condfidence in that load .The 55 's will work at that range but I do blieve that heavier is better at 300 yards especially if you have edge hits. Just my 2 cents Larry

Craig-I always shoot 55Nbt's, but for larues, I go with 69's. Don't want any doubts.

At SMM3G this year.. with the Larues.. they went down fine with 55s (@ 3,100).

I don't know enough about them, how they're calibrarted to know how 1 wold compare.

I did really like those flash targets at SMM3G.. no more waiting.. sweet

The LaRue Sniper Target presents a steel plate similar to the "A-B-C" zone on a Metric target. Go to http://www.laruetactical.com/targets/ for more info. I believe they will be painted Black.

There will be a match calibration rifle & ammo. The Match RM or his designate will do the honors as required.

I expect that 55's will work ok as long as you get'em on the target. If it gets windy, that's a different issue.

What about Rail Road Pass Casino and the Hacienda Casino? Both are very close, they don't look like anything, but cheap and close.

Those are the two smaller Hotel/Casinos in Boulder that I referred to in my 8/27/09 Post. They are cheap & close. You just need to be aware that you'll probably need to drive for meals and/or a beer. The domminant customer base for these two are the truck drivers running to/from Kingman & Phoenix.

Trying to book my airlines, so a couple of questions?

What time is the award ceremony on Sunday or roughly what time will we be finished on Sunday?

Where is the awards ceremony going to be held i.e. match hotel?
