Nemo
PB's thread on Peter Frampton got me going through my mind's musical archives. I remember some of the tunes that were "in" that last year of worryless life. To me it was 1983. There was Marvin and the Aussies at work, one of my favorites! Also super songs by The Police and Toto, and one hit wonders by and Dolby. That year all the guys waited for the chance to dance to and Air Supply with our girlfriends... In 1983 music was mostly cool and sometimes cheesy but life was good and easy. What's your year? VegasOPM
I remember Guns and Roses, Appetite for Destruction and Metallica, Garage Days Re-revisited being two of my favorites. Metallica, ...and Justice for All came out about that same time. This was 1988. And yes, I still prefer "angry music".
BritinUSA
For me it was 1980. I left school at 15 (graduated). It was a big year for Blondie, first 'Atomic', 'Call Me' and the 'Tide is High'. Abba was singing about 'The Winner Takes it all', no doubt referring to the divorce lawyers that had handled both marriages that had failed that year. David Bowie had followed up the Space Oddity with 'Ashes to Ashes' and Olivia Newton-John and ELO has a hit with 'Xanadu' (no really) John Lennon closed out the year with a number one hit 'Starting over', he had been killed shortly before, and the big Christmas hit on 1980 was St Winifred's School Choir - 'There's No-one Quite Like Grandma'.... You can't make this stuff up. Good times, weird but good.

3quartertime
The year is kind of a misnomer. Officially I'm an 84 grad, but I finished half year so the music I think about in senior year was the 83 stuff. As far as my graduation year music is concerned most of what I remember is from my first year in the service. I actually left for boot camp two weeks before my graduation, but it didn't matter as I was done in December of 83. Didn't go back to get my diploma till I was 20! When I was in boot camp this song came out; The Warrior, Scandal I remember hearing it on the radio during work week. I was assigned to the old galley used for storage so a group of us would just move stuff around all day and listen to the radio. Man did it sound like we were living large getting to actually listen to the radio!!! That song is tied to that memory... That same summer after I finished my advanced school I was scheduled to go home for a couple of weeks. I had my car with me and wanted a tape to listen to on the trip. I remember being on base and looking at the new albums. It came down to a choice between Prince and The Scorpions. Can't explain why Prince was so high on the list at that time, but several songs on the album were getting tons of airplay then so maybe it was just catchy. Ended up getting The Scorpions. Artist: Scorpions Album: Love at First Sting Year: 1984 Tracks 1. Bad Boys Running Wild 2. Rock You Like a Hurricane 3. I'm Leaving You 4. Coming Home 5. The Same Thrill 6. Big City Nights 7. As Soon as the Good Times Roll 8. Crossfire 9. Still Loving You I wore that tape out!!! Must have listened to it 10 times on that trip home. It's funny I wasn't really a Scorpions fan then and except for some songs not really a big fan now, but that album sure clicked with me. Overall I'm not much of a fan of 80's music. The stuff I listened to then seems old and corny, but it was ok at the time. MTV had just started and I remember watching songs on TV that I would change the channel to on the radio. Back in high school in my area 70's music was real popular. Now a days I listen to more 60's music... Go figure!!!

JimmyZip
When I graduated H.S. in '87, here in the Palm Springs area we didn't have a real "new" rock station. It was pop, or oldies like Frank Sinatra, or Doris Day. So, those of us who really wanted to hear new music like what was termed at the time "College Radio" (later termed "Alternative") had to dig through the bins at the small record stores and find what they liked. Many of us didn't have cable, so no MTV, but we could go over to a friends house and see it. From '87 I remember albums more than individual songs. The Smiths. "Louder Than Bombs" and "Big mouth Strikes Again" Guns N Roses "Appetite For Destruction" Stings "The Dream Of The Blue Turtles" Foreigners "Agent Provacateur" Echo And The Bunnymen "Songs To Learn And Sing" Pink Floyd "Learning To Fly" Beastie Boys "Pauls Boutique" The Cure "Head On The Door" and "In Between Days" oh and "Just Like Heaven" Def Leppards "Pyromania" still had many top 10 songs like "Pour Some Sugar On Me" a strip club favorite to this day! Midnight Oil had "Beds Are Burning" the Church had "Under The Milkyway" Bad Religion, The Minutemen, X, The Stone Roses, all had songs that I can't recall but probably knew all the lyrics to at one time. Funny, but unlike some I forget much of what I listened to then and if I hear it I like it but don't go looking for it. There was a Neo-Psychadelic movement in the late 80s that had decent music, but I preferred the original. Also, 1986 was the year I discovered The Grateful Dead. Went on tour and drove around the west going to shows when I should have been home studying. Glad I grew up, and glad I joined the Army.

Paul Burtchell
Long live Craig 8 track players and Craig "Power Play" speakers . Oh, and then came the Pioneer Super Tuner and Jensen Triaxial's Ah, 1976 to 1978 . Between the big ass Craig PowerPlay speakers in my rear speaker shelf and air shocks on full I could barely see out the rear window of my '67 Camaro. Those were great times and great music.....
