Chris Keen
I've never been to a Super Bowl, or a World Series .... let alone GET TO PLAY in one. You'd pay that much just for tickets and travel expenses to WATCH the Super Bowl. My 1st Nats ..... I'm not looking at the price. Just the "Priceless" feeling of when I win my class! LPatterson
I am biased living in Montana but the scenery alone was worth it for me to leave the kids behind and move out here. For those of you flying in to Missoula try for a left side window seat as the descent through the mountains makes you wonder about the bowl the pilot is trying to land in. novafla
Let's look at the value of things again... Going to Nationals in Missoula Entry fee = $250 Airline ticket =$627 (RT/Wash DC) Rental Car = $285 local gas cost = $125 Lodging = $488 Food @$30/day= $150 maybe more Ammo (9mm) = $36 Parking, ground travel@ home =$60 sub total =$2021 What else? At least 4-5 days off from work....value =??? + Play....@ $100/day = $500 Shirt =$30 Hat =$12 sub total = $542 What ever else you want to....travel to Bison Range, Sightseeing, fishing = ??? Let's see what we get for our money. Tuesday = 1/2 day shooting (maybe 2-4 stages, 1 1/2 hrs wait time betweenat least one of them) Wed. = 1/2 day shooting (AM or PM) (probably 1 hr. wait to shoot, maybe 4 stages, (2) 45 min waits between them Thurs. = 1/2 day shooting (AM or PM opposite from Wed) ...similiar wait time between stages...will probably start late Friday = ditto Sat. = Hold all the troops to shoot maybe 2 stages....wait some more..... OK , now we shoot 16 stages (?). We want to do it as fast as we can...16 x 30 sec. (I'm a C shooter, probably slower), so the total of our activity this week and full shooting action is maybe 8-10 minutes. $2563 for 10 minutes of actual shooting $250/minute...Sounds like movie star wages, except we pay it, don't earn it. So where is the value in all this? I ask myself that question all the time.
Front Man
Its only money. Heck, you can make more tomorrow! The only people that make money work at the mint; the rest of us have to earn it. I went to Reno in '95; it was the best vacation I have ever experienced. My figures were $20 per stage on the match fees alone; you wouldn't pay that at home to shoot the same stage but I would go to MT in a heart beat if everything was situated to my satisfaction. Everyone should go to at least one National, if they can swing it. But maybe I'd rather go to Area 2; it might be a bigger bang for the $.

Thursday: 1/2 day shooting, 6 stages, no waiting Friday: 1/2 day shooting, 6 stages, no waiting Saturday: 1/4 day shooting, 3 stages, no waiting Trust me, I've done this before. It's a trip to the Nationals. It can't be in everyone's backyard, but you are still shooting with a great bunch of people in a beautiful setting, and having fun. TANSTAAFL. AlamoShooter
my concern is that the stages will be too good. The landscape will be too nice. The fishing in the afternoon will be too much fun. The shooting will be too much fun and I may learn too much. I may meet too many nice people and make too many new friends. And that I wil be left fealing like I should have paid more or vounteried to help more in some way. Dam dang darn ..too much fun AGAIN! Just my way of saying "Thanks" ahead of time to all the good hard work in progress so that I have a great time.

kimel
Go compare the cost of this sport to many other sports. This one is cheap by comparison. How many of those other sports allow you, plain old john/jane doe, to participate in the Nationals?
