mwx40x40
Anybody recommend a lightweight athletic boot for run and gun . I see a lot of ankle height high speed shoes, but have not seen anything with 8” height
phoenixsomd
I've used the Altra Lone Peak's. Not an 8-inch boot but they do provide excellent ankle support.
Whitefish
Try Adidas GSG9 police tactical boots that are used by German police and others. I have a pair that worked nicely when I wore them at matches. They are reasonably lightweight and around 8 inches. I think they are available on Amazon and other LE suppliers. Timido
I like Altra Lone Peak high tops also.
rowdyb
I have those Adidas gsg9 boots and they work ok on most surfaces in most weather conditions. I don't need over the ankle support so I much prefer a trail running shoe.
Paul B
Had a pair of GSG9's and stopped using them. Found that ankle support was actually too good for me and I could not make as fast turns and transitions as I wanted. Maybe because I am taller I tend to lean more than move for a shot. JayDee
If you are looking for waterproof, these have been quite good for me. It’s basically a trail running shoe, with super grippy rubber compound sole, and a bit more ankle support. https://www.rei.com/product/183605/la-sportiva-ultra-raptor-ii-mid-gtx-hiking-boots-mens?sku=1836050017&store=169&CAWELAID=120217890011624280&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=109205918125&CATCI=pla-444104428519&cm_mmc=PLA_Google|21700000001700551_1836050017|92700057791423050|NB|71700000074091789&gclid=CjwKCAjw38SoBhB6EiwA8EQVLoYv5SpMdvE-Va6bRwxfyhWZtA9VlvPDvnK5K-Sc6q4Hbc2tzXMjYBoCMGIQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Boomstick303
These Under Armour boots are amazing. The only downside is due to them being water proof they run a little warm in the summer months. It is probably the lightest boot you will find for a high ankle support boot. I have not experienced any of the negative items in the reviews. Curious if they did not have a bad run of boots or something, but the boots have only been amazing for me. Also currently at a great price. The price is a reflection of the boot has been discontinued, looks like there are only limited sizes left. https://www.sportsmans.com/footwear-outdoor-casual-men-women-youth/mens-outdoor/hunting-boots/under-armour-mens-cam-hanes-ch1-gore-tex-waterproof-uninsulated-hunting-boots/p/p201473 Edited September 25, 2023 by Boomstick303
mwx40x40
I went with the Altra’s, and I think I’m going to like them. Thanks for the recommendations mentioned above
TONY BARONE
The original GSG 9 boots were light weight and very comfortable Jerry Barnhart ran with them but they are no longer made in that configuration . The new variety are more durable but unfortunately too heavy.

I wear them quite a bit at work and during the cooler months at matches. They have Gortex and non-Gortex models.

In the meantime I went with the Altra hiker height and I like. But I may still need the additional 8” support and check out theSalomon
jrb06
I have been happy with the Merrel Moab 2 lightweight and comfortable. I even bought the safety toe black ones for work. Men - Moab 2 8" Tactical Waterproof Boot - Boots | Merrell

JimBridger
Speaking as someone who works professionally with performance footwear, there is no need for a 8” boot for comp shooting (unless you have some medical problem). Athletic (ie lighter) mid hiking styles will do you better if you want a boot.
