Kevin Kline
Great project Michael, thanks! Can we preorder the DVD?Pay no attention to the nattering nabobs of negativism. If you don't get the other two big dogs I'll be happy to make it as the "C" shooter base line so you can compare the average shooter with the champs for the audience. The SHOOTING GALLERY Big Dog (working name only!) Invitational and "Big Dawg" steel match don't seem close enough to warrant a copyright infringement case IMHO. And if I had a chance of winning $1,000 in Florida or $5,000 in Arizona I think I'd do the math, contact my sponsors, make the reservations and shoot the Shooting Galery match Saturday and Franks match Sunday. Unless you suffer from sever jet lag from traversing two time zones then you might want to shoot the Florida match Friday and the Big Dawg match Saturday. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you were going to shoot Frank's match it would have to be all day Friday, there is not an option of shooting the whole match on Sunday. Plus, if you have not shot Frank's match, it's no walk in the park. Mentally, you're going to be toast after 10 mind playful stages on Friday and then flying to shoot the other Saturday. chuckbradley
When we find out the 6, I wonder who would have been number 7?
MBaneACP
I think we're at critical mass now. As you might expect, the six initial invitees are (in alphabetical order): • Todd Jarrett • Doug Koenig • Rob Leatham • Max Michel • Jerry Miculek • Dave Sevigny So far, I've talked to Jerry, Max and Dave and they're ready to rock. I also heard from Para that Todd is also on board. Hopefully, I'll talk to TGO and Doug early next week. As I said, we will be providing all guns and ammunition. Each competitor will shoot the same gun (manufacturer/caliber) on each stage, and the guns and calibers will vary with each stage. All guns will have iron sights and be "production" versions. Competitors will have a time period before each stage to familiarize themselves with the guns they'll be using. Guns will include DA/alternative — safe, light, whatever — action semiautos, DA revolvers, SA revolvers and maybe even a 1911. Obviously, regular sponsors of SHOOTING GALLERY have first priority in terms of providing guns for the stages. My three largest gun sponsors are SIGARMS, Ruger and Para. I've also spoken with S&W, Glock and Taurus. Tentative plans call for the scoring to be time, plus a penalty for steel left standing. The stages will be weighted approximately the same. At least one stage will include probably more than one El Prez and/or variations. One stage will be a complex house-clearing using reactive targets and frangible ammo. As I mentioned before, one stage will feature targets at 70+ yards. We will have finalized stage diagrams, gun/caliber selection and final prize distributions at the SHOT Show's Outdoor Channel press conference. We're also making provisions for spectators and dickering with one big organization to pop for a bus from Phoenix to Gunsite, if you Mesa guys would like to come watch. BTW, Dave Arnold would like Troy McManus to join him as match directors...you out there, Troy? I'll buy the sushi! Michael B PS: If this works and I don't manage to lose my job over it, expect to see more...a cowboy version; a 3-gun version; a women's version. My overall goal is The Outdoor Channel Cup, a really really big show!

reneet
Jerry, Rob & Doug will be close. Hard to pick who'll come out on top.
reneet
Was hoping it would be completely surprise with no chance for them to prepare ahead of time. Looks like they'll have a week of knowing the stages.

j1b
Robbie. That's my pick. Personally, if he decides to shoot, I don't see how the others can feel like they are not shooting for second. Strong statement I know - but I have a hard time believing otherwise. J
Carmoney
Nobody on this planet can shoot an aggregate array of different types of firearms, particularly those with iron sights, better than Jerry Miculek. Over and over and over, he has walked away winning most of the side events at matches like Second Chance and the Steel Challenge. Set a strange gun out on a table and offer money to the person who can pick it up and shoot it at speed most effectively, Jerry will always walk away with the cash. If you haven't witnessed this, you can't imagine it. Not only is Jerry the most accomplished DA revolver specialist alive, he is also the most talented speed-shooting generalist out there. mark dye
I have spent a lot of time shooting with Miculek, and he is certainly my sentimental pick. I think a lot depends on the stages. In the long distance/ultra precision stuff, I have to give the edge to Koenig. In the closer speed stuff and general shooting, Miculek or TGO. I don't think you can count anybody on that list out, but the outcome will depend totally on the stage layouts. Mark

Jake Di Vita
You don't see how others can feel they aren't shooting for second? A true champion will NEVER shoot for 2nd, no matter how badly the odds are stacked against them. No one is unbeatable. Personally I can't wait to see this. Not only with a pistol but with rifle as well. He picked up my factory SKS with iron sights many years ago ('93) and did stuff with it what most of could barely dream of doing with a scoped, comped AR-15. There is some truth in the statement that stage design will play a part in the outcome. Advance, detailed (size, distance, gun, caliber, etc) notice of stage design will play a huge part which is why I'd like to see it completely surprise. gmshtr
I just hope that all of the guns are sporting 2lb triggers or less. Otherwise, most of those guys won't be able to get off a shot...with their whimpy little trigger fingers! Jerry excepted, of course. Seriously, I have a prediction on the winner...it's just that, he wasn't invited. They're all so talented, it'll be impossible to call. I wish them all good luck. I wonder if the Shooting Gallery would fly some people out there as a cheering section?
Flexmoney
25y shots with the Glock...reloads with the revolver... Stage design could influence the match quite a bit.

Kimberkid
If this thing is gonna be 6 stages, and each stage is worth the same value, I cant see how Jerry isnt the heavy favorite. Let us not all forget that he shoots autos in 3 gun and I'm sure elsewhere and has won with them many times. I have never even heard of anyone on the list besides Doug ever shooting a wheelgun anywhere. I am sure the others can shoot roundguns also, but I doubt to the level that Jerry does. Doug proved he could, but can he reload them? I cant wait to see this, and I dont even get this show. Guess I'll have to try to order a video of it. Shooter Grrl
I know who one of the invitees is. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well duh If they didn't bother to invite to Jerry than it's really not THE TOP DOG, now is it?
Kevin Kline
I agree, Jerry's goin to be tough to beat, but I have confidence in Dave.
Steve Moneypenny
I see Everyone of them shooting for first. as Jake said. NO champion admits defeat before it happens! as for bowing to second behind Letham... Dave sevigny beat him at L 10 nationals this year...... and in production the last time he shot it. Rob is an incredible shooter. but so are the other names! and if there is money involved. don't count Doug out... it's amazing how different of a shooter he is when there is cash on the line! Jerry has a distinct advantage, Experience both in the shooting world, and in the fact that he is accustomed to shooting multiple platforms. But with shooters on this level, it will simply come down to who has a good day! This is a great idea Mike! I hope it all works out well for you! j1b
As time goes on, it becomes apparent to me that I've got to be less "bold" with my posts. Of course this will be a great match. There is no question. Will Rob win? Who knows. Will Jerry? Who knows? Dave? Guess my answer. Who knows? The spirit of the thread lead to predictions - perhaps mine was a little too bold. Everyone shooting for second was too bold. Certainly ANY of the shooters could win - that fact is evident in the fact that ALL of them have won major matches. It'll be a great match and my opinion is that the best competitor will win. And that's all I've got to say about that J
