  1. I’m probably a bit biased, but the direct-mounted R1PRO in 6MOA is pretty hard to beat. The little notch in the optic housing even co-witnesses with the Dawson front sight quite well. If I weren’t using a direct-mounted R3Max, I would use the R1PRO. My original DPP is great, but I’ve gotten not great reports on the newer ones...from a number of CO users. Plus, it’s quite tall. The R3Max or XL is the king of the mountain...but you gotta pay to play. And, use an adapter plate. My opinions, of course. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. It depends on how trigger sensitive you are. If you're hard and fast on the trigger and it doesn't cause a lot of muzzle movement, then you'll probably like the stock trigger. There are some simple things you can do to improve it with the right parts, but it's not necessary...one of the best Production shooters in the country shoots a bone stock 320X5 Legion (Mason Lane). My suggestions for easy DIY would be maybe some grip tape or stippling on the grip module, and add some weight...tungsten guide rod, brass base pads, etc. For carry optics, you'll definitely want some Grams spring & followers and an aftermarket extended basepad or two...that will get you an easy 23rds in the mag.

    Sig P320 X-Five Alpha

No...lighter, actually. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I love my Glock 17...nearly won the Production Nationals in Tulsa with it, but malfunctions cost me. It just didn't like 147gr Berry's bullets. With that said, shooting my G17 next to my X5 Legion isn't a fair comparison. Anyone considering Production division, pay the extra $300 and get an X5 Legion...you won't be sorry. Although, I may be a smidge biased.
  5. I'll have a Staccato-R in 9mm very soon. If it's as awesome as the picture makes it seem, I'll definitely keep it. Otherwise, it will go on the chopping block...which has grown beyond my control. Expect to start seeing them on the classifieds!

    P320 X5 Thread

Hello all, I'll be putting together a detailed product video very soon that will be loaded onto the Sig website. It should address most of the questions and concerns out there. Otherwise, I'm happy to offer answers...preferably after the product ships. Thanks for everyone's patience.

    P320 X5 Thread

As you can imagine, all things 320 move slowly. We just don't have enough engineers to keep up with all of the projects. I'm trying to get drawings of the slide & barrel in 40 to start testing, but it's slow going. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    P320 X5 Thread

A lot of good info here about the 320 X-Five...I'm glad everyone likes it. Just to address some of the comments I've read: The 320 Target was the direction things were headed before I was hired. I stopped it to ensure we had complete modularity AND a trigger that wouldn't be a possible liability for the 80%+ end users who weren't competitive shooters. The USPSA Carry Optic and Production paperwork was submitted to DNROI yesterday, but I'm not sure if it's been updated yet. I'm sure Troy is busy at WSSC. The weight submitted (without the magwell) is 33.5oz. Robert Ray stopped by the booth during the NRA, and confirmed that the 320X-Five would be legal in ESP with the magwell, and SSP without the magwell. I'll be sending him an email confirming current production/shipping numbers tomorrow to get confirmation. NRA declared it legal in Production as is with the magwell...with exception to the magazines, since the don't fit in the box. The four 21rd mags that come with the gun fits with the magwell, and is a better selling point for most of our purchasers. The guns are very tight to ensure extreme accuracy, but are built to work ideally with SAAMI standard ammo. Building a pistol to work best with 130PF handloads would result in a gun that would be awful to shoot standard Ammo out of (what 80+% of our customers will shoot). They will break in after 500 rounds or so. Mine works with everything now...including 115gr light WSSC ammo. Our current 17rd 9mm mags have been redesigned to fit in the X-series grip modules (minus the magwell). Springer Precision and Taran Tactical are working on base pads/extensions for the standard mags that will fit in the Magwell AND the box. We're currently working on getting molds made for small & large X-series grip modules, but won't be finished/avail until 2018. We want to get the guns out there to help our customers realize that the X-series is more than just a cool grip module. Hope this helps! Thanks, Phil
  9. I'm signed up to shoot! I have no doubt that Matt will put 100% into this event. The Pro-Am Shooting® Championship was one of the premier matches of the year, and it took a lot of effort to get it there. I'm happy to see that it's coming back in full force...I'm definitely looking forward to finally shooting it rather than running it!
  10. The trick is not practicing, right?
  11. I'm so excited to get to shoot this match again! It's been too long. I'm looking forward to the new venue, but I'm definitely going to miss gator bites and beer with the gang after practice!
  12. CO was a sign-up option under centerfire divisions for the Steel Challenge. The division is brand new, but still a provisional division...and yes, you can compete at your local club matches in Carry Optics. The BOD will evaluate the division and it's participation and determine its future. It's a bit of a catch 22...no one wants to buy the equipment and compete if there's a chance (albeit very remote) that the BOD could change or outright remove the division. As of November 10th, there were 211 CO Classifier scores turned in, so I would be very surprised if the BOD removed it. And no, there isn't a CO peak time for the stages assigned yet. I could probably make a pretty educated guess as to what they would be, but I would prefer to actually base it on statistics. They'll yield the same result, but it doesn't give the famous 50 complainers any extra ammo. As we get more CO scores from affiliated steel matches, it shouldn't be difficult to figure out...expect them to be on par with the Limited peak times maybe a bit higher. The old SCSA Classification system calculated a shooter's best stage scores and combined them, then assigned a classification. This creates a score that is unobtainable and not accurate. PLUS it doesn't give us a lot of room to compare scores, as Max, KC, and BJ would have 8-stage times in the 60 second range. Additionally, the classifications weren't being used. The new system compares a shooter's real performance against the average performance of the top 10 Steel Challenge scores over the course of several years. It's just more accurate, and it doesn't take a collection of God runs and give an inaccurate or unrealistic classification. Will there be some Grandbaggers...probably, but shooters will be forced to stay consistent though the entire match rather than go for it on the stage they're weak on. Sandbagging will also be reduced, as most competitors won't trash an entire match just to keep their scores down...that would lead to poor results (and bad shooting habits that would carry over into the larger events). I don't think the system is absolutely perfect, but if implemented correctly, it will definitely give us an accurate assessment of one's ability. (Just something else for the new President to get credit for!)
  13. Hello all, and sorry for not posting this sooner. The new SCSA Classification was written by me years ago when I was the Area 4 director, but was rejected by some BOD members (of past) and the former Executive Director. The ED and other BOD members had devised the original classification system of taking a person's best score per stage at the Steel Challenge, then combining them all to form a classification score. It was my opinion that this was unrealistic, as many people (with the exception of a few) would obtain GM or top classifications then not be able to perform up to them. My classification time was WAY lower than I had ever gotten close to in any competition! Taking a page out of the IDPA playbook, I wanted to come up with something that could allow a Steel Challenge competitor to get classified in one match...even a club level one. After becoming President, I re-pitched the idea. Bruce Gary helped me change things to a percentage based system to better align with our standard USPSA Classification, and BAM...there ya go. The new classification system was born. As far as administration of that system, USPSA HQ is working diligently on incorporating it into the new database...among MANY other tasks. Without the technical knowledge of website building, I can't comment as to how it plans to be administrated, but I've suggested monthly updates to pull a competitor's best performance at a SCSA Affiliated event. The four-stage stipulation was aimed our USPSA clubs who may not have the ability to host six or more like many others can. I REALLY hope it is tested and operational a few months before the Steel Challenge next year (August 25-27, BTW). It would be nice to incorporate them into the match and see some earlier visits for the Class winners to the prize table. As far as the Carry Optics questions, that was added to this year's Steel Challenge as a provisional division shortly after it was approved. I was hoping for more interest, but in the end, only Shane Coley signed up. I changed my entry from Open to Carry Optics so he would at least have someone to shoot against and wouldn't take an empty title. I practiced with his G34 with Trijicon optic, but ended up borrowing a stock FNS to shoot in the main event. I never expected to win...only to give a pro competitor a little competition. (so no, I wasn't padding my resume). Anyway, I digress. I know that Kim, Rick, Roger, and everyone at HQ is working overtime to ensure that our new facelift is seamless, fully operational, and without major bugs....just in time for the new President!!! GEEZ! The BOD will also be reviewing the new website/database before release. Thanks to everyone for their patience...I'm confident you won't be disappointed. Phil Strader
  14. Actually, it was only you who gave me crap about the match Itchy!! HAI!!!!! あなたは、ラウンド目にいくつかの敬意を!
  15. I'll have the provisional division specifics posted tomorrow at www.uspsa.org. I've been busy working on Public Announcements among other things today. Thanks for your patience! Phil
  16. I'm really saddened to hear this. I had hoped that having the new owners there last year would have helped ensure a smoother transition. Hopefully moving it back to their SC home club will take some of the kinks out. I can say that putting on a match with this kind of track record for the first time can be daunting. I was lucky in that most of the people who attended the first Pro-Am had never experienced the original match in the early 90's (the Colt Pro Shootout). My door will remain open to help in any way I can. I would encourage the owners to utilize the resources at your disposal...the website is the most invaluable asset you have...half of the registrations I received were website downloads. Secondly, if you intend to use a different scoring software than in years past, run a test match with it...twice! Lastly, if you intend to run a prize table, do it with full force. The biggest downfall of matches is poor pre and post event coordination, and high match fees with minimal prize return. Even if the PASC becomes a trophy match with a raffle-ticket prize table system, the pure shooters who enjoy the format will attend, assuming the entry fee is reasonable. To my fellow competitors, I hope that you will give them a second chance to nail down the administrative details. The match is inherently the most fun you can have with a pistol...that will take care of itself. Registration, matchbooks, scoresheets, sponsors, shirts, scores, awards, catering, etc, etc...that's the hard part. It took me a couple years to get it perfect (IMO). I'll be anxiously awaiting the 2016 PASC entry form...I have every intention on attending, as a shooter or in any other capacity that's requested (short of sponsorship!!).
  17. Sorry I missed the match...I was so excited to finally shoot the PASC, but I had a USPSA BOD meeting this weekend. I heard it went well! Congrats to the match staff/owners and the winners. Hope to be there next year!
  18. Hello everyone, Just thought I would send a quick update about the match. It's coming up quick...July 18-20. As usual, the entire match is shot in 1/2 a day...either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Perfect for those of you who will be at the Industry Masters and want to get a quick match in! Competitor sign-up is pretty good...165 Limited shooters, and 100 Open so far. I think we'll match or surpass last year's attendance. The stages designs are at www.proamshooting.com...I've brought back some favorites, and put some new designs in the mix. With Universal's acquisition of a boat-load of poppers for the World Shoot, expect bigger targets, more of them, and faster times! Sunday's Limited Amateur match is full, and there are only 28 Limited slots left for Saturday. Don't delay! Open has 36 slots left on Sunday and 39 on Saturday. Friday is, as always, wide open. This year, the Limited scores are shot in the afternoon, and the Open in the morning. Since the chance of rain is higher later in the day, iron sight pistols are less affected...that was the only repeat suggestion from last year. Sponsor support is great on the high-end, with S&W, Glock, Sig, FNH, and CZ-USA putting up a lot of guns yet again. I'll probably be purchasing a few Springfields again this year. also. I'm having a hard time getting responses from most of the Event and Stage sponsors, but hopefully they'll contact me this week. As much as I'm on the road, I would strongly suggest that everyone get their match applications in ASAP. Refunds will not be granted after June 18. I hope to see you in Frostproof! 20. Quick update: Amatuer match SunAM - Full with a short waitlist Sun PM - 6 slots left Sat AM - 28 slots left Sat PM - over half left (50 or so) Fri AM & PM - plenty left Pro Match Only one Open slot left! (Sunday only) You can find the squad lists at www.proamshooting.com There are over 100 people who shot the match last year who have not registered yet. I'll be sending them one last reminder email, then deleting them from the 2013 contact list. We'll see you in Florida! Phil Strader Phil Strader
  21. See the recent squad updates HERE. The match is filling VERY quickly. Sat AM will be full by month's end...Sun PM will be full by the end of the week. See you on the on the range, Phil
  22. Sunday AM is FULL. Sunday PM is 2/3 full. Squad assignments can be found at www.proamshooting.com. Saturday will fill quickly once Sunday is gone, so don't wait around! Phil
  23. Just a quick update. Registration has been open for about 3 weeks, and Sunday AM is nearly full already! You can see the squad assignments HERE. The match is only two days before the Steel Challenge. It is my goal to have all of the SCSA stages and practice bays already up, with the Pro-Am stages on the older bays. That will be my humble request to the Universal Shooting Academy, anyway. I say this every year, but it never seems to do any good. BUT, I'll say it again anyway...Sunday AM will be full within the week, and Sat AM won't be far behind. Don't delay! (I've been told) this match is the most fun event of the year. Maybe I'll be able to shoot it next year. www.proamshooting.com
  24. Just wanted to check in to let everyone here know that I submitted some updated info to the www.proamshooting.com webmaster. The match application will be available on the website the morning of Feb 4th. As usual, the Limited match on Sunday AM will fill quickly. Most likely, the Saturday Limited match will fill, as well. Open division on Sunday has filled before, so anything is possible. In other words, DON'T DELAY! Unlike most matches, there aren't a lot of no-shows. Last year, only two people who signed up on Sunday AM didn't come (and those slots were filled quickly). Just FYI, the World Speed Shooting Championship (Steel Challenge) will start up two days after the Pro-Am, so make plans to stick around...you could shoot 6 matches in one week!!!. (Pro-Am Lim, Pro-Am Open, SC Shotgun, SC Rimfire, SC Iron, SC Open) I hope to see some of you there...if I'm conscious! Phil
