  1. Finishing a vacation in Hawaii and flying back to Chicago through Dallas. I’m getting into Dallas at 6am and can fly back out anytime in the afternoon or evening. I have plans for lunch at Hard 8 but otherwise I have the day free. Any good gun shops, ranges, things of interest to a shooter? Particularly things open in the morning? Thanks for any advice!!
  2. Anyone have advice for gun clubs on the north side of Nashville? I have a female friend who lives north of Nashville and recently had a scare and has decided it’s time to start carrying a gun. Hoping I can find someone near there that will get her pointed in the right direction for places/matches or practice leagues to help get her feet wet before she goes to take her class. She’s basically a brand newbie and I’m hoping to find her some help from someone who isn’t a Tactical Timmy or mall ninja type, but rather a legit shooter that can actually help. I’d drive down there myself but my work schedule is slammed for the next couple months.
  3. Thanks guys, I'll be checking all this and post what I find out.
  4. sorry i misunderstood your question, the recoil spring in gun B is totally stock as it was originally made. Gun A is a 15lb ismi spring on some aftermarket rod that is quite old and probably due to be replaced. Im not sure why but it never occurred to me to put a stock one in and try it, Ill be doing that soon. sitw may have hit the nail, this morning while looking them over, i noticed that when pulling the trigger on Gun B, the slide comes very slightly out of battery and then back into battery when the trigger breaks. I never noticed it til now.
  5. Everything is clean and dry, striker channel is fully inserted, I ended up ordering the little tool, as initially I didnt realize that the striker channels were better left alone and I was already in too deep. Both guns got new firing pins and firing pin springs, spacer sleeves, channel liners, firing pin safeties and springs, trigger assemblies with springs, trigger bars and connectors. They both have reduced power (4lb) firing pin springs and extra power(6 lbs) trigger springs. The only aftermarket parts installed were the lightened firing pins. I did also try Gun A with full power factory springs and a factory firing pin to be sure those didnt contribute to the light strikes and there was zero difference between the lightened set of springs and firing pin and the total factory power and weight set. These were very good and rather light triggers than ran beautifully for roughly 100k rounds with reduced power springs and a polish job, and then now they seem like they refuse to ever work again, this is why I'm so confused.
  6. I wondered about the high primer issue, but it does the same with factory ammo also. I dont recall which pin I put in first, but I will disassemble and reassemble in the order you suggest.
  7. I have 2 Glock 34s that have both been very reliable for many years and many many 1000s of rounds. Not long ago they both decided to take a dive at the same time, my attempts to fix them have shown no improvement and I'm left here confused about what to pursue next. Both guns had home triggers done years ago and stayed around a 2Lb pull forever. Gun A started getting light strikes on Winchester primers every other round or so. Most of them would ignite if hit a 2nd time. I never had an issue with Win primers before, and shot a bunch of reloads with Win primers and plenty of WWB over the years and it never had an issue. I changed out the reduced power springs for full power springs and it showed zero improvement. I then swapped all the internal parts that I could think of including the firing pin safety and spring, firing pin and spring, spacer sleeve and channel liner, trigger, trigger spring and trigger bar, and connector. I can't think of anything else to replace and it is acting exactly like it has the whole time, still only sets off maybe 50%. Gun B started to double on rare occasion and then double and triple regularly. So I again replaced all the exact same internals that I did for Gun A. It worked fine for 1 magazine and then on the second magazine it became a single shot, with the slide locking back after every round fired, regardless of the fact that it still had rounds in the magazine. Im definitely not a gunsmith, but I had thought that this would have been a straightforward fix and it is clearly not. Does anyone have any suggestions, because I'm all out of ideas?
  8. Thanks guys, I did find a shoot straight shop, very nice and great selection, but seemed a bit on the expensive side, though that may be a regional difference from back home.
  9. Hey guys, I'm in Orlando for another day and a half and nothing really planned. Any cool fun shops, ranges or shooting related points of interest? In/around Kissimmee today and flying out of Sanford tommorow, but don't mind driving for something cool. Thanks
  10. Alan, Thanks for the heads up, Ill toss the idea around to a couple fellas and perhaps we can make a trip of it again next year. Jimmy, you in?
  11. Ive been out the loop for a bit, educate me on the Flagler Cup? Couple old school guys from Indiana have mentioned getting back to Columbia again perhaps another "Major" Bianchi match.
  12. They can definitely still be competitive, based on the shooter of course. Sadly, unless you find another old school wheel gunner, you may take a bath on them. I knew a guy that had a Model 10 that was all done up by Clark and ended up selling it for $600 locally because he isn't internet savvy and your average shooter doesn't want barricade wings and a goofy looking barrel.
  13. Awesome to see this article. A true gentleman with integrity above reproach. Congratulations brother!!
  14. Next up on my list is either a 5" 627 or a TRR8 and yet I can't find one in stock anywhere. Not at any local shops, not at any online retailers, nowhere. Anyone have any leads, theories or suggestions on where to find one?
  15. Congratulations Kevin!!!! So extremely happy for you!!!!! I cannot possible express the joy I feel to see Kevin finally win what he has so rightfully earned!! I could tell a mountain of stories about Kevin's effort, hard work, dedication to the sport and the extraordinary sportsmanship and friendship he has shown to other shooters! I hope it tastes as sweet as you imagined!
  16. With so many quality gunsmiths out there now building great stuff, I'm surprised STI is selling any guns at all. 3 different smiths (all forum members) quoted me the $2500 ballpark for a Limited gun less than 6 months ago. That to me is an extra $300 very well spent.
  17. My point was that he paid for all facets of the gun to be premium and they aren't. I know there are more expensive guns out there, and that in no way affects the point. $2000 is plenty of money, he should have gotten performance and appearance. If someone else wants to pay top dollar for performance and poor appearance then that is their choice, but why have 1 aspect when it's fair to expect both. Would you pay the same price for a Shelby with paint chips and a broken turn signal as you would for a showroom gem?
  18. I feel your pain bro, sorry to hear this. You paid way more than enough money to get a gun that runs perfect and looks great, you just didn't get what you paid for. You paid all that money (2-3weeks pay for most of us) to have some confidence and that didn't get fulfilled. I love STI framed guns too, but after getting hosed on a .40 Trojan years ago, I'll never buy another factory STI gun. To me the whole "things slip by sometimes" or "looks shouldn't matter" or "as long as it shoots" comments are all ridiculous. You bought the Ferrari of the gun world, nothing less than fantastic is acceptable. Sorry to hear your story, hopefully STI makes it as right as possible at this point.
  19. Just purchased a new stihl a couple weeks ago and love it, quiet, runs smooth, EZ start is great and plenty of power. Buy a 6 pack of 2 cycle mix when you buy the unit and it doubles the warranty.
  20. I had my cup gun put together for a bit less than that, though I was still in high school and I have many friends and fellow shooters to thank for their donations!!! I tried to buy a shroud off Kevin until he donated it (this was how I first met him, as a stranger giving away parts) and several friends who gave free gunsmith work.
  21. Congrats Steve!!! Still excited to see the videos for On Target training too!!
  22. I have not been real active here in the past couple years for various reasons, all unrelated to the forum itself. However, I recently saw some really well done Youtube videos on practical shotgunning and the name caught my eye for some reason. Lo and behold, it is an active forum member. The next addition to my safe will be a new shotgun for 3 gun matches, and since I know almost nothing about the options available these days, I decided to PM the forum member in question. Keep in mind that this member lives about 1000 miles away from me, has never met me before, and likely never will. However, he was kind enough to answer every question I had, from his own personal experience, with an open an honest perspective. He did NOT spout some theory that hasnt been tried, nor did he bash brands other than what he shoots. He has replied 5 or 6 times now, and always answers all questions in their entirety, to a person he has never known and has no obligation to whatsoever. I always knew that the shooting community is good people, but still people just the same, and some will always be more open and generous than others. So, to the seasoned vet that spared his time to help me, Thank you, as you are at the top of a heap of truly fine folks.
  23. I nearly asked you on sunday if you had thought about this.... Id either take it back to Neil and ask him to fit another barrel or ship it to Bar Sto and have them fit a new one. I inquired abt this on my stock gun also and was told a new barrel and link was all that was needed, and adding a new slide wasnt nessecary.
