Posvar
I have some build up from running coated bullets. Have since switched to JHP but would like to clean my JP comp. Any suggestions? It’s a stainless 14.5” barrel in black matte finish with a pinned and welded comp. If there is another thread on this please let me know. I searched back several pages and didn’t see any but didn’t look further. Edited January 14, 2019 by Posvar Link to comment

Wash rinse repeat until satisfied with result. Link to comment
Posvar
Thanks! Is your barrel/comp pinned and welded? Just making sure the solvent won’t hurt any of that. I have the Lucas solvent already Link to comment
Posvar
Excellent. I do have access to a good ultrasonic cleaner at work and I’ll just do that method that you have shown in your picture. Thanks again! Link to comment

Maybe it doesn't work as well? Link to comment
S&W686
As I do with my Open Gun before each stage I spray a little bit of Dillon Case Lube in the compensator. This helps some in the cleaning of the comp. Link to comment

I used carbon killer before my ultrasonic I use Lucas in my ultrasonic I will look into the simple green if it has good reviews, I might try the simple green and distilled water next time I drain it. dmshozer1
I coat my comp ports with a product called "Never Seeze" Get it in any hardware store. I have used it in many different comps. Carbon, stainless and aluminum. 22 pistol, .223 and 9 rifle. I have never built up enough carbon to clean any of them. It is also an excellent trigger lube! Try it, you will like it. Link to comment

It’s the lid folded up, this was taken the first time I tried it and the gun fell. I have since moved the comp more to the center of the basket. Now The only contact is the buttstock to the wall and the comp in the basket. Link to comment
Polaris13
I've tried Lyman cleaner, simple green, Ballistol, and Mpro 7. With all but the Ballistol in the ultrasonic. None of them do a perfect job. Cleaning comps is a pain and time consuming. Link to comment
Scooter
I just went through the same ordeal. CLP, Bore-tech Bore Cleaner, Kroil, hydrogen peroxide/vinegar. Tried soaking overnight with the first three. Tried all four individually in a ultrasonic tank. No magical cure found. Link to comment
BlackBuzzard
Its that donut of buildup right at the barrel crown that gets me. I just leave alone. Dont want to scratch things up picking at it with tools. PCC still hits steel plates at 100yds all day long. Link to comment
bushmeat
That "donut of buildup" will, at some point be dislodged, and could cause a partial obstruction and baffle strike. Soaking in CLR for an hour turns this to mud and it runs off with a few blasts of brakecleaner. Instead of a pick, I've used a WaterPic to clean up the crannies. Link to comment
