Cleaning JP GMR15 Comp (or similar)

Recommended Posts

I have some build up from running coated bullets. Have since switched to JHP but would like to clean my JP comp. Any suggestions? It’s a stainless 14.5” barrel in black matte finish with a pinned and welded comp.

If there is another thread on this please let me know. I searched back several pages and didn’t see any but didn’t look further.

I’ve used both products listed above, before I had an ultrasonic cleaner I would pour product into a bucket and then funnel it back into the jar when I was done.  let it soak for 30 min to an hour and scape off with a dental pick and wipe with q tips. Wash rinse repeat until satisfied with result.

Do you still use those two solvents with your ultrasonic cleaner?

I see a lot of people using diluted Simple Green...  Seems a lot cheaper...  Maybe it doesn't work as well?

I used carbon killer before my ultrasonic

I use Lucas in my ultrasonic

I will look into the simple green if it has good reviews, I might try the simple green and distilled water next time I drain it.

I coat my comp ports with a product called "Never Seeze"

Get it in any hardware store. I have used it in many different comps.

Carbon, stainless and aluminum. 22 pistol, .223 and 9 rifle. I have never built up enough carbon

to clean any of them. It is also an excellent trigger lube!

Try it, you will like it.

Does that mat or roll keep the gun from vibrating against the side of the ultrasonic?

It’s the lid folded up, this was taken the first time I tried it and the gun fell. I have since moved the comp more to the center of the basket. Now The only contact is the buttstock to the wall and the comp in the basket.

That "donut of buildup" will, at some point be dislodged, and could cause a partial obstruction and baffle strike.

Soaking in CLR for an hour turns this to mud and it runs off with a few blasts of brakecleaner.

Instead of a pick, I've used a WaterPic to clean up the crannies.
