Viper or Venom?

I don't know anything about red dots. The wife is getting a ruger 22 45 lite and wants a dot on it. Vortex is my only option and I don't want to get the razor.

 

what's the difference between the venom and the viper? Witch one is better for steel challenge also what size dot should I get?

I used both on a duty gun before ending up with a sig Romeo 1

The viper seemed brighter, possibly due to larger dot. I don’t shoot steel challenge though so can’t tell you which is better for that.

They make the Venom with a 6moa dot now too. The Venom has a smaller window, but the battery is on top for no loss of zero when you have to change it. For a .22, either should serve well.

I like the viper because it is a little larger window. I have one on my PCC.

I hated the Viper and sent it back. I like the 6moa Venom and now have two of them. One on a m&p 15-22 and one on a Shadow 2.

I have the 6 Moa Viper and love it. Had it for about 2 years now.

 

What did you not like about?

The venom has the battery accessible from the top so you don’t need to remove the site to change batteries

So it seems like you guys are saying they are pretty much the same thing just the venom might be better because the battery is easier to change. That might be the way to go because chances are she's going to forget to turn it off lol.

I've ran a 3 moa venom for 3 years and I haven't had any issues. Switched to a DPP only for the larger window.

The viper is made to sit a little lower. Designed to be closer to the height of your factory irons on a slide ride mounted dot

I have the 3moa venom on mine. Never used a viper. I use an 8moa CMore RTS2 on my major open gun. I use the bullet size as a dictator for the dot size.

I use a 6moa Venom on my 22/45. No complaints. Window size has never been a issue, day time bright, easy to change batteries and holds zero. Cant go wrong with it

I put a Venom on my Ruger Mark IV this weekend to test it compared to my C-More with 12 minute dot.  The Venom sits lower, has auto brightness with 10 settings and is easy to find in the bright sun. and is lower to the bore.  My C-More's batteries only last one month before I have to change them.  The Venom battery is supposed to last a year and is very easy to remove and replace.  

 

At this point, I like the Venom and will be keeping it on my gun for a long time.

Thanks for the replies guys, the venom is on its way. Gona give it to her for her birthday on the 5th. Unfortunately living in NJ she has to wait about 6 more weeks for her "permission slip" to pick up her gun.

I did shoot the viper over the weekend for the first time. I really liked how nice and round the circle was. Not the case in my venom
