tomfturner
I was just wondering if anyone else had ever broken a powder measure body. I had my first powder measure break yesterday along the bottom ring below the clamp. As it's on my 1050 I'll be charged for a new measure (which I expect), but I was wondering if anyone else had broken a measure in a similar manner? jhgtyre
That should be a warrantied item. The powder measure isn't the reloader and has it's own warranty.

While I agree I don't think it is with the 1050 maybe someone from Dillon will get on an set me straight either way ... it's the first time between my reloader (previous 650 and 1050) I've seen this. I figure it's a metallurgy issue.

The same powder measure is used with other presses, and if ordered separately comes with the warranty. It's the press itself that has a limited warranty. I'd bet money they cover the measure. tomfturner
Based on my current 35$ charge I’d bet you’re wrong, but that really doesn’t answer my question of has this happened to anyone else? Sent from my etch-a-scetch.
z40acp
I have not broke the aluminum body but one I've had a long time leans to the side a great deal during the charging stroke. I have broke the plastic tube and Dillon sent me a replacement tube. These were on 550's.

tomfturner
I can't speak to what they should and/or shouldn't do, because all I can tell is what they DID do. Which was charged me 35$ for a part. Maybe the Dillon rep that watches the forum will get on and be able to straighten out WHY. That being said, I agree that this shouldn't be the case because this same powder measure is the part I pulled off my old 650. When I sold it, I gave the guy I sold it to my new 1050 measure (because I didn't want to have to re-setup my powder throw). I've bought 3 complete 1050 conversions with powder measures, but I started this thread to see if 1.) anybody else has had a measure break like this, and 2.) see how it was handled. Tom S.
Well, you can either complain here about it, of call Dillon and speak to them. I know which one I'd do.
BoyGlock
I had 2 break on the main body itself above the ring both in 550. Coincidentally they broke about a month apart. Could not see any problem with the reloader itself to cause them to break except both were not new about maybe hundred thou rounds between them. slavex
I've had the powder measure body break before, once. I figure after a few million rounds on that machine it was acceptable
tomfturner
Yeah I’ve got the new part in to replace, and I’m going to get some better pictures of it. Dillon did take care of it, so that’s a good thing. If it’s on a 1050 the warranty is only 1 year though, so that’s what was going on there. Assume that it’s part of the press. When I get everything replaced I’ll get better pictures.Sent from my etch-a-scetch.

nhjeffs
I had the same break on the old style measure. The person at Dillon said it's not unusual.
slavex
just had this exact same break occur on Tuesday night to a new piece I got last year after having the inner body crack on another, really really well used and old measure.

What's the difference between the old style powder measure and the new style powder measure? Trying to figure out which versions I have. The powder measure seems loose on one of my 1050's... I replaced the plastic collar sleeve (#13845) with a new one, but it didn't seem to make any difference.

Old style used springs to return the charge bar.

Seems to make it run smoother... Never thought about ordering one of the old linkage plates... I wonder if you can still get them?
