  1. Just a question. If you have no cost issue and want the best builder you can find why are you wanting to specify the parts? If you truly go to a top notch builder they will know way more than you. I'm thinking no respected builder will put his name on a gun that you completely define. Why would they?
  2. The problem is that while standing in a given location might be completely acceptable regarding the 180, the RO has no control over what the shooter does with the gun. There is no way to tell a shooter its ok to shoot from a given location (even directly downrange) because the shooter may point the gun beyond the 180 from any position. No RO should get into the position of telling the shooter how to handle his gun Thats the shooters responsibility. The position of his feet doesn't matter.
  3. I have never been happy with the new situation that gives the President little authority and the Board day to day tactical management rather than strategic responsibility. That said I don't know most Board members but I know enough to say they didn't vote for dismissing the President lightly.I doubt NROI Director would act unless the seriousness of an offense justified it. There had to be some serious breach of conduct. Something like cheating or having some serious conduct with a woman. Not suggesting either of those occurred but you get the idea. If an elected President is dismissed then the reason has to be stated. It can't happen secretly. It just can't. This action must be explained and I believe it will look justified. They would not have acted so promptly to anything that would be controversial.
  4. Glad somebody is still sane. The opposite of that is steel challenge where every dick can shoot a .22. Apparently USPSA is willing to start a new division every time some nut has a fantasy. Best way to kill interest in the sport. Make it about membership not shooting
  5. This discussion is why the internet sucks. There is always somebody who objects to anything.
  6. I agree there are some great builders out there that are not that well known. Don at Venom helped me with a minor problem with a Venom gun I bought used. He did it quickly I appreciate his help.. Nice guy who apparently builds a great product. Due largely all the known guys being swamped with business quoting delivery times of 1 and two years I went to Dan Heitzenrater at D2 Customs after researching possibilities. Dan delivered two Open guns promptly in less than 3 months. The first in less than 2 months. Prices were very reasonable. Followup has been spectacular. I can highly recommend Dan. He is located in Punxsutawney PA
  7. Mixed brass is a major contributor to the variation. Brass length, thickness, history (especially work hardening, brittleness) vary by brand. Even if you sort by headstamp and only keep the brands you know to be the best from experience with them, you are very lucky to stay within a total OAL range of 0.005 . That's using the top of the line presses like Dillon 1050 and 1100 and any of the Mark 7 presses like the Apex 10. The machines have variation as mentioned, e.g. shell plate flex, stroke length and Lord knows what else. Do you realize what small variation 0.005 or even 0.010 are? I don't think you do. Just because you can measure it doesn't mean its easily controlled or even very important. The angle you get the round in your calipers causes more variation than that. Try it. I would love to make every round exactly the same. That is not possible on a $1000-6000 press due to the huge number of variables involved many of those with the brass. Decide what you can deal with. With properly prepared brass and careful after production gauging for both diameter and length you can maintain +/- 0.005. Pick your center point correctly and you won't have issues with most guns. While I sometimes use that range I try hard to keep my match ammo at +/- 0.003. Im pretty successful at that with both an automated 1050 and an automated Apex 10. For match ammo I check every round for OAL and gauge all rounds in a 100 hole Shockbottle gauge. I know by experience that any round that will freely drop in any hole in my gauge will work in my gun. I also know that using my chosen bullet profile I can chamber +0.005 from the center point I use and have little problem with rounds at -0.005 from the center. I still strive for +/- 0.003. That is easily possible with little fallout if you use a good consistent case prep and careful QA along with sorting by headstamp. YES...I do have to change die setting for seating if I change headstamps in the middle of a long press run. If I change from Win or R-P to any other brass I have to reset the seating die. Typically between Blazer and Federal and Speer I don't have to change anything but I check carefully when I make the change. A range of 0.010 can usually be used if you pick the right center point. It can be a disaster if you pick a center to close the max your gun can chamber or too close to the point where feeding short rounds is not reliable. There is no substitute for knowing your guns and your presses and having a consistent process.
  8. Not sure I understand correctly so I should stay out of this. If your gun's frame is drilled and tapped for 5-40 screws (most are) damned if I would be drilling and tapping that frame. The mount is not threaded so there should be no issue there. Sorry if I misunderstand what you're saying but drilling and tapping the frame makes zero sense to me
  9. This is stage 19 of the 2022 Limited/Open Racegun Nationals at Talladega. I was lucky enough to be on a squad with the well known RMI George Jones. A super nice guy for the record. You can see the WSB and stage diagram for yourself. Target 3 is the open target. George shot this 1 to target 3 followed by 2 to each of the others targets without a reload, then reloaded and shot 3 to target 3. This caused untold confusion among everyone who witnessed it including the RO's on the stage. The confusion was how many procedurals is this. I don't think anyone in Alabama thought it was zero procedurals other than George. RM was called and after he discussed it with the CRO and George (who was legitimately in the conversation as the shooter) it was ruled zero procedurals. I have never thought this was correct until reading this ruling from NROI. Apparently zero procedurals is the proper ruling and it will certainly change my behavior going forward. I can't post the stage picture. Google 2022 Racegun Nationals Matchbook and go to stage 19 [STAGE 19] RUNAROUND SUE STARTING POSITION: stage sponsored by In shooting area, wrists below belt, handgun loaded and holstered. STAGE PROCEDURE: Upon audible start signal engage T3 with only four rounds, then perform a mandatory reload and engage T1,T2,T4,T5 with only two rounds each. Arrays may be engaged in any order. TARGETS: 5 IPSC SCORING: Virginia Count | ROUNDS: 12 50 BACK TO BACK NATIONALS 2022

  11. As has been said by others, the shooter certainly DQed.. However you should only be talking to the shooter in range commands. Idle chit chat from the RO is not appropriate and I have seen it lead to problems. Shut up the non needed talk
  12. If any of you believe all this "new idea"stuff is about you then you're misinformed. The gun industry drives all this. They can continually create equipment that satisfies a new division. Never mind it all fits into current divisions. They can sell more stuff and services to more people who are not serious about this. They don't practice and don't stick around. Here today gone tomorrow, revolving door. Then they find out its hard to be competitive in this sport they move to something cheaper and simpler. Meanwhile they try to create divisions that require no practice or talent. That doesn't work. So they jump on something like steel challenge that has no mental challenge. Bring your 22's and rifles and shoot with the other hardly ables. If you screw up you throw it out. No problem. Doesn't take long to figure out that guys who can actually shoot come here and embarrass us so they quit. Steel Challenge is a glorified Glock match. In fact Glock matches are better except you can only shoot Glocks. Unfortunately the Board thinks more divisions mean more members and more dues. More members means we need more ranges to make L1 matches possible and not last 12 hours. There isn't going be more ranges. There won't be enough new ones to replace those going broke or being run away by development. The overwhelming number of clubs do not own their ranges and are subject to the owners wishes. When a range goes under there usually is no substitute. The club gets nothing from the sale of land that they don't own so they can't continue. The limited ownership of firearms and ammo manufacturing industries know full well that shooting is a boom and bust business with even those businesses coming and going through the revolving doors. So during the recent boom that is subsiding, thank you Jesus, they would nor add any primer manufacturing. You can't blame them. The firearms industry is behind all the talk about new divisions and changing division structure. The USPSA Board knows that but they salivate over the possibility of sponsorship deals making shooting the top sport on earth. It cant happen so don't fall for buying new equipment to fit into a new unnecessary division that just robs shooters from the current divisions.
  13. How about just shooting the divisions we have. Screw all this crazy thinking that is one persons opinion. Rule changes will kill the sport. Hello IDPA.
  14. I agree that you can't leave a product in the box forever and then have a legit complaint. That said I've used Dillon scales for a few years and been reasonably satisfied. I currently have the model they sell now. It has always suffered enough zero drift over a loading session which in my case is 4-8 hours that I continually zero it. I finally got tired of that and started looking for something better. I bought a couple of cheaper models and discovered they aren't worth the black powder to blow them to hell. About 6months ago I bought a Hornady M-2. I also bought a zero kit from somewhere that has wire weights from 0.5 grains to 5 grains. The Hornady is right on when ever I test it. The Dillon is frequently 0.1 grain off and over a little time it drifts way off, like a grain or two. I have been totally happy with the Hornady as I continue to run the Dillon and Hornady side by side. Im trying to keep 9 major in a tight power factor range from 170-172. That requires me to maintain the powder I use between 7.5 and 7.7 grains. The Hornady has proven it can consistently measure that accurately. The Dillon is just ok at that and the others I tried were useless. Might just as well guess as use most of them.
  15. The Bus Armory guns seem to be well liked by their experienced competition owners. Personally I wouldn't touch any of those other "remade" guns. That's just me. Im sure some are ok. Bite the bullet and get a custom 1911. that's the way to go
  16. None of this will stop until or unless we get a division for every shooter so everybody can get a prize bag like at a women's golf tournament.. You win before you play syndrome.. Look at freaking steel challenge, the home of boredom. They have division for every shooter and the majority shoot multiple divisions per match.. Reminds me of a Glock match. USPSA is fine. It would be a hell of a lot better without rifles but some hardly able people lobbied for that. If you want to shoot a division with more than 10 rounds then load your Production gun gun to capacity and shoot A fudgecicle nobody but a few crayon chewers and winder likkers want. We clearly need no optics in Limited but the whiners will whine until the stupid Board management system listens..Taking care of the hardly able and low achievers is the way of the world. If you want to win at shooting get off your ass and work at it.. This whole system of appeasing the hardly able sucks.
  17. Ok Im in a bad mood. On Christmas of all times. Just a bad ass. How can something so simple get so much time? Ill tell you why because some people prefer to post nonsense than shoot. The rule on using a minor backup for a major primary are clear and simple. Your match is minor if you shoot a minor gun at any time. Makes sense to me because cheating is certainly possible otherwise. If you shoot major then get a major backup gun or go home when your primary breaks. A great deal of time on forums is spent by people who want the rules changed to suit their situation. Screw you. The rules are the rules. It actually doesn't matter why. If you don't like them or can't afford them do something else. Don't whine about it Over and out. Tired of human nonsense.
  18. I run small pistol, small rife, and the magnum versions of each interchangeably. I have run thousands of rounds each without any issue whatsoever.. The magnum versions run about 10 ft/sec higher muzzle velocity and others have said 15 ft/sec. Don't think so much. Shoot
  19. I shoot 9 major for Open and 40 major for Limited.. Roll Sizing improves yield and makes the press run smoother and with less torque. essentially have zero gauge fallout in either caliber. I gauge every round in a 100 round Shockbottle gauge. Roll sizing is well worth it to me. I saw another comment that said sorting cases is not needed if you roll size.I don't think sorting is absolutely necessary in 40 but Id never load mixed brass for 9 major. You cannot control OAL or powder load well enough for such a sensitive situation for feeding or power factor. I expect every round to feed and power factor to have a single digit standard deviation in a 20 round test. That is easy to achieve in in sorted brass that is roll sized. It costs a few bucks to get a roll sizer but you'll save that in scrap and gun feeding issues over time and be more confident in the function of your ammo. You only buy a roll sizer once...cheap versus the rest of shooting. Sorting is time consuming. I hate it. Lately Ive been buying sorted head stamps. Cost a little more but a great time saver. Both rolling and sorting are worth the effort. I make a combined 50-70K rounds per year soIm not dealing in small runs.
