TriggerT
I watched a great special on public TV a few weeks ago about private contractors over there. A REAL eye opener. Remember those 4 guys who were killed, burned, and then hung up on the bridge over in Iraq? Guess what private contractors from Blackwater, who (It sounded like) were sent our short handed, and got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Almost all of the private contractors I know of who are over there are former military or Law Enforcement. Funny how the term "Private Contractor" has replaced "Mercenary." I guess we gad to make that politicaly correct as well.

davidwiz
I guess it really depends on what type of work you want to do. If you want to do 'military' type of work, I think places like Blackwater are looking for former special operations people. If you are looking for a more civilian role, places like Haliburton and the like would be a place to look.

George
Hopefully no one would ever think of actually "wanting" to go over there just to get involved in shooting/fighting, because if they wanted to do that and that is what they were looking for advice here on how to do, then this thread is gone! -- Regards,
Chills1994
No, no, no. I'm not out looking to shoot at people. I am former military. USAF Academy grad, got my 5 free fall jumps in, went to Air Assault (earned those wings too), and Ft. Carson RECONDO, SERE, Water Survival..... So I'm curious about what credentials these contractors might be looking for. Blackwater sounds like all X SEALs with some Green Berets thrown in. If you really want to, you could do a search of my posts and see that nothing I have asked has anything to do with shooting people. Mainly reloading stuff. Newbie'ish questions. George
My apologies for closing this thread unjustifiably. Carry on! -- Regards,
Chills1994
Thanks George for reopening this thread. I heard today that in the past week suicide bombers have killed over 180 Iraqis. Now, that got me re-thinking any ideas of going over there, in any job position. If some "terrorist" is so willing to give his/her life up so easily, then I think it is impossible to guard against, 100%.
George
No problemo, my over-reacting is nothing new ;-) Ya know, it kinda makes me think of the scene from Godfather II when Michael Corleone decides Cuba isn't worth it!
shred
My belief is that if somebody is committed enough to killing you that they're ok with themselves dying as a part of it, you're basically SOL, doesn't matter if you're an average joe or the head of Citibank.. Gun Geek
Here's all you need to know... From: James Yeager [mailto:JamesYeager@TacticalResponse.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 06, 2005 9:24 AM To: JamesYeager@TacticalResponse.com Subject: Press Release - Civilian Contractor DVD set FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Phone: 731-676-2041 JamesYeager@TacticalResponse.com Learn The Essential Skills Needed To Succeed As Civilian Contractor In High Risk Environments Tactical Response Creates Four-Disc DVD Package That Provides "Need-to-Know" Information Not Available Elsewhere Baghdad, Iraq [April 6, 2005] - Tactical Response, one of the world's leading weapons and tactical training organizations, released a 4-disc DVD package designed exclusively for civilians who are seeking employment as contractors in high-risk regions of the world. James Yeager, President of Tactical Response, said that the intent of this first in a series DVD set is to provide fundamental, yet critical, information that anyone entering or thinking about entering the world of civilian contracting needs to know. "There are hundreds of things you have to think about, plan for, and finalize before you leave your country," he said. "For example, you need to know about getting the right immunizations, how to find a stable and trustworthy employer, and properly assessing your equipment and training needs before you get started." Worldwide demand for skilled civilian contractors is increasing at an unprecedented rate. Countries desperately need security specialists, engineers, skilled craftsmen, business managers, and consultants. The potential earnings for providing contract services of any type are high, because many of the countries with the highest demand are also some of the most dangerous, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, South America, and Asia. "It is important for our clients to know that these DVDs don't provide fighting or combat training techniques," said Mr. Yeager. "But I guarantee that after viewing this DVD, you will have the knowledge you need to begin a career in this field. It will teach you how to prepare for your missions, how to travel through dangerous places, how to live in hostile, deadly environments, and most importantly, how to get back home safely." Ben Thomas, an experienced civilian contractor and former U.S. Navy SEAL, called the DVD ".required viewing by anyone considering any type of contracting work in a hostile area!" The reason I did this video is because there is NOWHERE to get information on contracting. Nowhere. Please forward this around. It will only take you a moment and I would be very grateful! ParaJoe
Right before I reenlisted in the Navy there was a company desperate to get people over there. They were offering some insane salaries, like 90k for the first six months tax free and then they would send you home for 2 weeks. Then they pay you the same amount for another six months. It was the same job that I was doing in the Navy but getting paid 4 times as much, twice in one year. I thought about it for about a week constantly, but being married it just didn't seem worth it. I had been back from a 7 month cruise for 2 months and to go back to the sandbox that fast wasn't my cup of tea.
Mike H
try www.socnetcentral.com, it's one of the few forums on the net that actually has some vetted individuals reviewing posts, as opposed to mall ninjas review the international job opportunities section the pay and assigments are based on expertise and experience, if you have socom credential, the pay can go up to $2-250K annually, if not average LEO/MIL experience anywhere from $90-150K BIGGEST issue is credibility of the contractor, meaning do they pay on time and in full, every contractor has issues, go with one that has the best employees on the ground best of luck if you decide to go this route, Irag and Afgan pay the best, but East Europe-Bosnia etc, Sirre Leone offer a little more stability- no suidicide bombings and consequently less pay
