Rodney1218
Was looking into trying the JP Enterprises silent captured system out. Before spending that kind of money on a buffer spring I wanted to get you guys feedback. Thanks in advance, Rodney
sschultz
I just polished my spring and the inside of the tube and used light coat of grease. Got nearly the same results for no $.
Rodney1218
Good to know... My option #2 was to buy a polished JP spring and polish the inside my buffer tube
AFguywhoshoots
I just got one this year and love it. The lack of the spring sound every time I send the bolt forward or shoot is a huge plus to me. It doesn't offer any real performance gains, but I will have one in every AR I buy from here on out.
EngineerEli
I have one of the JP captured springs, and love it! I hated the sproing sound and feel while shooting, now it sounds and feels like I think a semi-auto weapon should, very slick and smooth, while racking and firing. Plus its easier to install than the big standard recoil spring. They also offer different springs so you can tune it to your gun. I would search around, because I'm pretty sure they have been discussed in pretty good detail here.
Rodney1218
Thanks for the info guys I am still leaning towards getting one
armydad
I love mine. I have it in my CTR-02. I didn't put one in my other AR as it's setup for defense, not competition, and I don't shoot it enough to justify the cost. I think I'll try the polishing that SSchultz described and compare the two. I have a hard time thinking they will perform similarly, but I like the ideal of the cost saving. NateTSU
So what are the benefits to using a polished spring and polished buffer tube? Does it just make it quieter?
Rodney1218
I think the polishing would make it smoother.... I have a spikes tungsten powder buffer which made it quieter but was looking for that smooth action also...
T Bacus
I did not polish my spring, nor the inside of the receiver extension. I did grease both liberally and my gun cycles smoothly and has no spronig when fired. Polishing may help, but I think the grease is the most functional part of the equation. louu
It's a gun and a machine, two things that are supposed to make noise.
Rodney1218
The noise isn't want I am looking at improving, it was the smoothness of the charging handle.
louu
Give the spring and the tube a light coat of CLP
EngineerEli
The noise isn't want I am looking at improving, it was the smoothness of the charging handle. It most certainly smooths that out. Especially if you grease up the captured recoil spring assembly a little. Feels like cocking a well fit and greased 2011 slide. Mine does at least... toothandnail
NO comparison between the smoothness of a JP Silent spring and a oiled, greased, polished spring/buffer tube. Not even close.

TonytheTiger
NO comparison between the smoothness of a JP Silent spring and a oiled, greased, polished spring/buffer tube. Not even close.Just compared my well used, greased, polished system vs. my boss's barely used JP SCS. He agreed the difference was so negligible that the added expense is hard to justify. Steve RA
I've got one and like it. Not sure I'd replace a well working system with one, but if building something new without the other parts (as I did) I'd go for it.
RiggerJJ
I could care less how smooth the charging handle operation is, as long as the gun shoots well...
RiggerJJ
But the 308 versions are a definite improvement. Don't notice a lot with my 223s. Can't beat the cool factor thou. ?
Rodney1218
Guess I will keep my rifle the way it is unless I run across a deal to good to pass up.... Thanks for the feedback guys Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
co-exprs
I run one in my 308. Makes the rifle lock very smooth and quiet. 16k rounds on the original spring too.
Aimtrue0531
I have one in all my rifles. I absolutely love it! That said I would do just as you said and leave a functioning rifle alone until a deal comes up. I am sure you will be very happy you got one when the day comes. uod
How does the silent captured compare to a hydraulic buffer? Edited July 1, 2016 by uod
co-exprs
How does the silent captured compare to a hydraulic buffer? Totally different target crowd. The hydrolic buffer (i had one) is heavy and serves to reduce rearward felt recoil. It is only usefull in over gassed guns and does nothing to improve lock up or quiet the spring.
