Steve Koski
Larry Leone at the power factor show, (http://www.powerfactorshow.com/) says the USPSA BOD just approved a brand new cartridge that will be legal for major power factor in limited division. What cartridge is it? Is it a caliber conversion to 9mm? I see conversions discussed here: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=206051but this isn't a recent approval by the BOD, just a "new" way of interpreting the rules. What is this new mystery cartridge, BOD approved for Major in Limited? Thanks, Koski

PKT1106
Ehh, still the same capacity as 40.
kcobean
I don't understand why they did this. If .357 sig is just a .40 case necked down to take a 9mm projectile, what's the difference between this and just allowing 9mm major besides mag capacity? Steve Koski
.357 sig has a lot more case volume, lower operating pressures, safer reloading to major. Just my guesses.
Gary Stevens
Mag capacity is king in our sport. I tried to get this approved when I was on the BOD and it went down the tubes. It seemed logical to me as it changed nothing equipment wise, but allowed a new factory produced round to be used. How things change.

IPSC did it because Australia (I think) is limited by law to < .40 caliber. Why USPSA? No idea..
ron169
Think it was posted earlier that it was done so some federal law enforcement agencies could compete with their duty weapon. Dunno if true
bikerburgess
Because, why not? factory ammo make major with lots of room to spare and it doesn't create a equipment race looking for a capacity edge.
Hi-Power Jack
And, 9mm bullets are cheaper than .40 caliber bullets???
Sarge
I predict there will be some busy RM's at matches this coming season. I try to stay pretty in tune to changes and I don't think I realized this was happening so you know the other 75% of RO's who don't live on Enos day in and day out will be calling the RM TO their stage because a guy is shooting 357 SIG

Whitefish
Gee, now I can dig that BarSto .357 SIG barrel for my Glock 35 out of the package and actually use it. I bought it on close out from Midway a year ago on the off-hand chance I might actually find a use for it. Now, it appears (as of Jan 1) that I finally have. aandabooks
This might finally be the push I needed to get a new cartridge onto the reloading bench. Who else besides Glock makes a quality gun in .357sig?

aandabooks
I said "quality". Just kidding. I'm only joking Sig fans. I have only ever owned one and didn't care for it much. It was a 290rs.

Whitefish
I bet Sig makes one Yep. I have a Sig P229 with both 40 and 357 Sig barrels. They've made it since the late '90's when the cartridge was introduced.
