TimHawkins
Is tightgroup powder to hot for coated lead bullets (bayou bullets)? I have read that they don't recommend tightgroup with lead bullets. I want to load 40 caliber 180 tc to an oal of 1.180, will this work and can anyone give me a starting load? Thanks, Tim
jman93
I load 200gr BBI / 4.0gr TG / 1.195 OAL / 171pf. I've had no issues. With 180 gr your going to be closer to 4.7gr - 4.9gr. I'm not sure if that's going to be hot enough to cause you a problem or not.
DoBell
Can't speak for titegroup for .40 as I haven't finished working up a good load for it yet, but titegroup with 9mm bayou bullets works great. Not too much smoke and very accurate.
jmorris
The lead will melt inside the coating first. Look at post #4 here. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=173215&hl=%2Bbullet+%2Bcoating#entry1920393
TimHawkins
Thanks for the info. I loaded some up with 4.4 grains and I'll give them a try and work up or down in charge weight to find an accurate major load. Tim

Willz
The lead will melt inside the coating first. Look at post #4 here. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=173215&hl=%2Bbullet+%2Bcoating#entry1920393 Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen that thread. Uncoated lead over Titegroup will look like you're shooting black powder. I see the same amount of smoke shooting 230gr Bayou Bullets in my .45 auto as I do shooting FMJ. Coated bullets reduce the smoke dramaticly. I'm currently load testing some 9mm 125gr Blue Bullets and they produce little to no smoke as well with Titegroup. Stician
I fed a case of Bayou 147gr with 3.2 grs of titegroup. I didn't notice much besides how nice it shoots.
bigcraig
Tightgroup and 180 Bayous are my got to load for Limited. 4.4gr-4.6gr is your charge window for major PF, depending on your barrel.

Pyryman
In 9mm HK USP Titegroup with cast lead bullets won't work. Burns too hot and causes lead fouling. For plated and FMJs it is a good powder.
jcc7x7
4.6 - 4.8 TG any coated 180 Bayou, SNS, BBI 9coated Hi-Tek) I'm trying Blue Bullets in my 38 super comp next
cautery
Never use TG... send all your Titegroup to me and choose another powder. Just kidding... There's a reason TG is hard to find. It worls great under jacketed and coated bullets. Both my wife and I have used it for years. Wish I could get my hands on a couple of cases of 8lb jugs though.
