  1. Pretty much like everyone else--about 3.6 grains at 1.125 oal works like a charm. 130 PF roughly.
  2. Last time I went to Cabela's in Dallas, they had a lot of Federal SPP's--I know that doesn't help you much but if you have a Cabela's nearby it might be worth a look.
  3. Even with 9mm Major, I load it until I lose it. For matches where I can't pick up brass, I'll load my oldest brass and not worry about losing all of it; during practice I'll pick it up and load it again.
  4. I've searched this forum a bit and haven't found a lot of answers so I'm asking the question: I have an STI open gun and I'm left handed. What ambi safety would you recommend? Thanks, I appreciate it!

    Frame to slide fit

Interesting. Thanks for the advice. The one that's "pig-nosed" has 100 rounds through it; the one that's straight has 10,000 rounds through it. I guess it's just random luck. I'll just keep shooting it and I will try to keep my OCD in check.
  6. I'm hoping the picture posts ok, it'll explain what I'm talking about. It's a picture of a G22 slide on a G31 frame. You can see that the slide touches the receiver at the front. A straight-edge laid on the receiver (with the slide removed) shows a pretty significant departure from straightness. I also have a G22 frame, and it's straight as could be--a straight edge shows no departure of straightness, and the slide does not touch the frame. Is this a problem, that the receiver is not straight at this point? Or should I just keep shooting and forget about the fact that it's not straight and the slide touches the frame at this point? Thanks!
  7. Cabela's in Fort Worth had more pistol powder than anywhere I've seen in a long time. The ones I noticed were: CFE pistol, HS-6, autocomp, accurate #7. Probably 15+ pounds of each, plus quite a few others that I didn't take note of because I don't use. They also had Clays, but I don't remember which one.
  8. Redding G-RX push through, for me. I still use my trusty Lee turret press and the G-RX die works wonders. It resizes and easily removes bulges. If I find a really badly bulged case I'll just throw it away, but with this die, I don't mind resizing and loading a case that has a fairly minor bulge. In my opinion this die is worth the money and will remove any bulge you put through it enough to safely chamber in your barrel.
  9. I've had success with 124 grain Blue bullets and Bayou bullets, both RN, with about 7.9 grains of HS-6. I forget my OAL, but it was quite long, something like 1.175 if I recall. Accuracy was good, and I liked how they shot. However, I was getting a little leading. I went back to shooting my .40 and haven't finished developing my 9mm major load yet, but I'm going to stick with either Blue or Bayou bullets and HS-6 and see if I can reduce the leading problem. They were accurate, fast, dirty, and soft shooting.
  10. The labeling can be confusing, but they all use the same one--add the G24 to the list also. All use the same one.
  11. That's good to hear; I got mine used and no instructions were included, but I figured I'd have to drill new holes on the other side, since there are only holes on the one side--but maybe I'm just thinking about it wrong.
  12. Another vote for TG. Dirty but it doesn't bother me at all, cheap, and I have some very accurate loads with it for coated bullets. The muzzle of my G24 is coated with residue after 200 rounds but I like how TG shoots, so it's what I'll always use.
  13. TG is great with coated bullets but it is hot. That said, it's all I use with coated bullets--I don't mind it running hot. I get absolutely no leading and I can put up with a slightly odd smell. I use TG with coated lead in 9mm minor, 9mm major, and .40 major.
  14. Has anyone successfully modified a CR Speed holster to left handed use? I'm not the best when it comes to tinkering but I guess you just drill new holes, using the old holes as guides, and assemble it in reverse?

    Glock 24 versus 35

The G24 is a long slide target gun and I love mine--fun to shoot, heavy, and cool looking. I use it for USPSA limited and just having fun at the range. It's unique and not as common as the G35.
  16. I didn't own a tumbler for the first couple months I reloaded, and I washed the cases carefully with soap and water and let them dry thoroughly. Then I bought a cheap rock tumbler from Harbor Freight, some media, and I've used that tumbler for 2 years now. Cheap and easy. Bought a 10 pound bag of ground walnut shells at the pet store and that bag has lasted 2 years and will probably last 2 more. Definitely need to clean the cases somehow before loading, for all the reasons people have already thrown out there. I don't polish mine with anything, I just tumble them for a few hours and call it good.
  17. I've bought some great brass on Amazon. The last time I bought some, I got 1000 cleaned/polished .40 S&W cases for $27. Just search for whatever caliber you want and there are usually a lot of choices. I've been really happy with that brass--it's once fired, tumbled, and ready to load. Out of the 1000 or so cases in the bag, a total of 5 were unusable. Not too shabby for the price!
  18. I have a frame weight on my G22 and G24 and love it. Wouldn't want to shoot a Glock in Limited without one.
  19. Those look pretty cool, I might get a sample pack. A little more expensive than other options though, but it's always kind of fun to try a new bullet, especially one as colorful as these!
  20. TG is great with Bayou and Blue bullets. Maybe a little smoky but nothing too annoying, and it just makes for a nice, soft shooting load. I use it with Bayou and Blue bullets in both 9mm and .40.
  21. As a lefty, I really enjoyed my first gun, an xdm with ambidextrous mag release. My next gun was a gen 3 glock, and it has an extended release that is easy to hit with my left middle finger. My open gun also has the mag release on the left side, and my middle finger does the trick just fine. Unfortunately, I do have to slightly shift my grip in order to hit the release, which sometimes isn't conducive to quick reloads. That said, I would greatly prefer having the mag release on the right side so I could use my thumb. Left handed people have enough things against us as it is, why not make your life easier and put the mag release on the right side, whenever possible.
  22. Being a leftie give me more that I have to think about when I look at a stage, that's for sure. I take it you're left handed? The world just isn't built for us!
  23. I think it's safe to say, that almost every match I've been to has had at least one malfunction. Luckily it hasn't happened to me yet, but I guess if you shoot enough and tinker with the gun enough, it's just a matter of time! I guess the more things you mess with on a gun, the more chance you have of having things stop working right.
  24. If you try open, you might enjoy it. It's quite a different feeling shooting an open gun than a limited gun. That said, I haven't competed in open yet, just shot it for fun at the range.
  25. I've used both Bayou and Blue 124's with HS6,and I really like how they shoot. However, the optic does get pretty dirty. They're accurate and easy to shoot, even at 175 pf. I have not tried any 115's to compare, though.
