DrLove
guys, stupid question, some folks have their STI/SVI mags sort of mirror polished. How do they do that? My mags always look bad. Just curious...
Paul-the new guy
Bench grinder with a buffing wheel for the outside. 12ga mop with flitz in a drill for the inside
outerlimits
300, 600, 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit wet and dry, followed by mothers polish.
Flatland Shooter
I wondered just how Howard Smith polished those "sexy" SVI magazines. How fine a grit did he use to get it so nice? After several years and lots of use, mine is still very shiny. Bill
EEH
That's one reason H.Smith charged so much,,oh yea and they always worked !
BigBamBoo
If you have a good size tumbler, throw the mag bodies in it overnight.
Sandbagger123
If you have a good size tumbler, throw the mag bodies in it overnight. i did this and they came out shiny. but they did not remove the deeper scratches and nick. I think those can only be removed with sandpaper and polishing rougue

Knp1288
How do y'all know when to switch to a finer paper?
StraightUp_OG
Once the fine scratches the paper leaves are more pronounced than any surface imperfections it is time to switch. When it seems that the shine is stalling move to the finer grit paper as the shine dictates. Edited June 17, 2014 by StraightUp_OG

Gooldylocks
It's not just for the STI guys ya know You have inspired me to do this with my SR9 magazines. They are the same bodies, so in theory they should come out just as shiny! Did you tumble them or did you use sandpaper/polishing compound? I have one soaking in vinegar currently to remove the blueing and then was trying to decide whether to just throw them in the tumbler or get out some flitz.... jriggs
Tumbler might work...this was done with a commercial polishing wheel with a few different buffing pads and compound.
exmr2sw
WOW, guess I got another project to do. After a few years of shooting my Brazo's tuned mags they have tons of scratches and are starting to dull. Will try the flitz technique inside and out. Desmo412
Purchased some ~1/8" pyramid-shaped ceramic media and filled my tumbler with about 20lbs of it. The mags come out with a dull finish, but they are perfectly prepped for a final polish with compound. It does a great job of removing the scratches that compound doesn't touch. BigGabe
I've used a tumbler on mine and some wet dry 2000 grit sandpaper.
