Alternate powders for VV N320 behind a 40 cal bayou bullet 180g

I would say the "usual suspects" of Titegroup, Universal, solo 1000, HP38, WST, etc.

I used 3.2gr of plain Clays at one point and it worked well but you really need to pay attention as plain Clays is hot and you can double charge it and still have a lot of case left over if you do not look in each case.

180 Bayou, 3.7gr E3, 1.130 OAL, 918fps/165PF

180 Bayou, 3.9gr E3, 1.130 OAL, 946fps/170PF

I usually use Solo 1000, but have been reading allot about Alliant E3, so I tried it. It seems to have the same feel as Solo 1k. There was little smoke. I haven't accuracy tested it yet at 25 yards, and 50 yards. Chrono work was done today at 24 degrees. Someone else had some chrono readings at various temps, and the E3 seems temperature stable.

Ramshot Competition

2nd this. Work it up the same as VV320

3rd Ramshot Comp

How does Ramshot comp meter? compared to 320, wst, solo.

Accurate, meters well, and is a lot cheaper than 320.

I've found WSF "field" works very well as a nice replacement powder for VV. Obviouly you can not use the same amount of powder as VV. It shoots soft and is no problem to clean up when your ready.

4th?...this? Yeah, been using Ramshot Competition for a year now as my VV N320 replacement and it meters consistently and I'm using exactly the same load weight as I was with N320.
