mhoosier
I'm trying to figure out the right safe to get. I have 6 long guns and 7 hand guns. What size safe would you recommend? Any specific safe over another? Thanks!
mhoosier
Oh, another thing...any must have features, nice to have features, features to avoid...?
B_Seehawer
However many guns you have, buy a safe that holds triple that. Mine was advertised as a 24 gun safe, no way in hell....
gng4life
Buy the largest you can afford and have space for since it will never be enough, believe me! Make sure to get one from a reputable manufacturer and fire/water protection. They are not made equal!
mhoosier
ok, so go big. Any suggestions for reputable manufacturers?
The Donald
ok, so go big. Any suggestions for reputable manufacturers? Liberty makes great safes. Get the changeable electronic locks over a dial.
Selby213
I agree with the go big. Spend the money once and do it right. Last year I got a safe on a day after thanksgiving sale, and saved a few hundred bucks.
bagdad45
Liberty Franklin 50 with door accessory kit, about $1,800.
blopez50
I know it's already been said but I'd just like to say it again, GO BIG!! I bought my first one with growth in mind. It was way bigger than I thought I needed. 1 year later, I was buying #2.
compshootfl
American Security (AMSEC)...buy it once..own for a lifetime.
outerlimits
Liberty with the electronic dial the bomb. 36" wide minimum.
aandabooks
I debated this very thing last Christmas and ended up sectioning off a section of a large storage area in my basement and building a gun/reloading room. I couldn't see spending the money on a huge 64 gun safe just to find that the collection wouldn't fit.
StraightUp_OG
Yup. Go big and heavy. Amsec 90 minute bolted to the floor is what I have and it's full. I should have gone bigger...
ltdmstr
Liberty is probably the best quality for the money. Get the kind with hinges on the outside.

Like a bank's walk in valt.

mhoosier
So Liberty and American Security are being recommended. Any thoughts on where to buy?
EkuJustice
I am the opposite of the go big. I like a nice 24 gun safe size. Its not so big that it is a pain to move into the house and is a good size and capacity. If you fill it up, add a second one. If someone wants to steal the guns make them work to get into 2 safes to get the collection as opposed to just one.
rboyes
I spent a lot of time researching safes a few years ago and went with a Sturdy Safe. They are not as flashly as others but are very robust for the money. I preferred to put my money towards more steel.
al503
I went through the search earlier this year and ended up with a Fort Knox 6637 with the door and body upgrades. 1/4" body and 1/2" door steel plates (not total thickness.) It was a little on the spendy side but I'm a stubborn 'buy once, cry once' consumer. I have a smaller Liberty that's similar in quality but I would go with the Fort Knox.
