  1. LOL that worked...I would never have guessed!!! Thanks for your help!
  2. So I got an AMG timer (sweet) and the PS Log App. I got them connected no problem and can pull times over. But they are not logging. Even when I enter the times manually and click save, nothing records. I am on an iPad...and thoughts or help would be appreciated, thanks!
  3. I was afraid you were going to say that. I’m starting to but stuff (just got a new DAA holster - with an N frame insert and a 1911 insert that I’ll use for steel challenge this weekend) but don’t have the revolver yet. I haven’t totally committed to 627 over 929 yet, but am wondering if I should order brass just because now! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Are you waiting for 38 special or short colt (or something else)? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Thanks firewood. I understood most of the mods you listed, but could you let me know more about what these 3 things do: - check headspace - BC gap true the yolk - ball detention in the open yolk position The rest made sense and equate to mods I’ve made on 1911s in one form or another. I’m not planning to shoot any IDPA as I lost interest because of the shooting to waiting ratio at matches. I will be shooting USPSA and Steel Challenge. I’d love to try iCore, but it isn’t shot near me. I went ant today and did a side by side comparison of the 627 and 929. The 627 had a better feel / balance for me. I would have bought it today but the trade value they offered for my CZ was laughable, mostly because they said they don’t have customers who value the custom work. So I’ll need to figure out how to sell that outright first. One additional question I might throw out there is around gripping the revolver. With my thumbs forward position, my left thumb is in front of the cylinder gap, which is bad. Where are the good resources to learn the right way to grip a revolver? Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the information! I will plan to jump right into short colts...more reading on how to do that!
  7. It’s been a while since I’ve been on the forum or shot competitively (about 2 years!). I have shot the 1911 / 2011 platform and just broke into A class before I stopped shooting. I enjoy USPSA and steel challenge. I’d love to try icore, but don’t see it in my area...I can shoot the other 2 three weekends every month. I had a chance to shoot some sweet revolvers a couple weeks ago and loved the feel. I shot a nice model 625, model 60 and a Python. So for a change up I’d like to start shooting revolver in USPSA and steel. I made plenty of gear mistakes getting into bottom feeders, and thought some experienced advice might help me get it more right the first time. I do reload (Dillon 650). The aforementioned revolvers will be in my possession in November (the result of a friend passing away), so I am leaning towards the 627 so I can shoot the reloads in it, the Python and the model 60 which will be my new carry gun and I like shooting my carry gun regularly too. I’m planning to trade in my first competition gun in on the 627 since I haven’t shot it in over 5 years (CZ). 3 questions: 1. For competition, what else do I need to buy to complete the rig? Specifically, what brands and what components do I need in order to avoid issues (ie what brass/moon clip combo, moon clip holder, etc) 2. What load data should I start with? 3. What work do I need to get done on the 627 initially? Thanks in in advance for the help!
  8. Looks like Powder Valley got a bunch of VV in. I just place an order for some 320. They only had1 lb containers of it though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Ended up with an American Security FV 6030. It's fantastic and the external hinges allowed the door to be removed for positioning in the house and 180 degree opening for easier access. The inside is very nice and the door organizer really improves the safe capacity. Thanks for all the advice!
  10. I appreciate everyone's replies. I have been applying some of what I've learned from this thread, and here is what I have tried and discovered: I loaded 500 more 9mm with Tula primers, taking my time to ensure that each primer is fully seated. I am using a Dillon 650. I seated several so firmly that I even deformed them a little. I then took 200 of them to the range for a practice session with my Dan Wesson PM9 with factory strength stock springs throughout. 9 of the 200 failed to fire and looked like light primer strikes compared to empties on the ground that did fire. I then made 200 rounds with CCI primers. Took them to the range a week later with the same gun and springs. 0 of 200 failed to fire. Conclusion - Tula primers don't work for me. I will use what I have already loaded and not dig into my supply of them again unless I cannot get ANYTHING else. I hate wasting my time reloading rounds that I can not fire reliably.
  11. I just ordered an American Security. I got the biggest one that will fit through the door to the room I plan to locate it. There will be maybe an inch to spare...a little nervous about that. I'll let you know how I like it. Found what appears to be a really great deal from a place that AmSec vouched for. It has external hinges so the door will open past 90, but I don't think it is removable.

Thanks guys! Nothing but helpful advice from what I can tell. I appreciate it! At least I have SOMETHING to reapeat every time and I can improve from there. I'm enjoying it a lot so far...
  13. I know, maybe I should start wearing my vest for USPSA :-) Just kidding, I think the mental game advice is really the ticket. I tend to almost over relax when I get to IDPA, I keep score, run the timer, etc. I think if I paid more attention to shooting the match, like I do in USPSA and Steel, I'd be fine.

Thanks Naka16, what do you do with your feet? I've been trying to point my left foot in the direction I line up and turning my right foot out 45 degrees or so.
  15. Just asked a GM teaching a class the same thing. The answer was essentially the same thing Nimitz just posted. Depends on your goals...
  16. For me, I'm about to switch to just one for all things. I'm going to give that a year and see what happens...if I can make it a year!
  17. That's a good point about seating depth. I've checked the ones that I had problems with and they did not appear to be under inserted. But I only have a couple hundred left that are loaded so that is something I can pay extra special attention to for the next 1000. It's not hard to imagine me being lazy :-)
  18. Thanks UK...those rifle rods look like a great solution to making the most of the available space!
  19. I was having great luck for a while. The first few thousands rounds went off without a hitch. Then suddenly in this last 1000 I've had about 20 that won't fire. They are small primers shooting through a 1911 and a CZ. I've event dropped the hammer on the failures multiple times with both guns.
  20. For soft shooting check out a 9mm Stock II. A little heavier and more weight in the front. Also a little fatter around the grip.
  21. Haha. I used to be decent at Idpa but not that I like uspsa so much I'm guaranteed a crazy fast first stage in every Idpa match with like 17 ones and a moving reload (proc) and have to go to the safe area to check and make sure I actually have a freakin front sight!
  22. Eh nuts, I was hoping for a magic cure. Thanks for the info and sorry I didn't see your other post. I sure hope real primers come available again soon!
  23. Good point, compensator didn't occur to me as I skipped right passed the "open gun" statement. Feel free to ignore my previous posting...I shoot iron sights and no comp :-)
  24. Any tips for not breaking every IDPA rule when alternating between IDPA and USPSA shooting?
