Shooter Grrl
David was informed yesterday that he is going to have surgery on his ankle. They need to go in and tighten up some tendons/ligaments/sheaths and possibly deepen the channel something sits in. (Dunn might be able to give you guys some real details He's done shooting for at least the next 4 months! Now I have to decide whether to continue without him... I'm leaning towards not going. And I KNOW all of you GUYS would go without your significant other, but I can assure you it is not the same for us grrls.
BigDave
What does David say? (let's eliminate the obvious first, eh?)
kimel
Any chance David can go and help with the match and participate somehow while you shoot? Probably can't RO except maybe at a static standards stage but I suspect the organizers can find some way to put him to work. That way you both get "together time", you get shoot the match, and David can particpate, even if vicariously while he checks score sheets or something. And FWIW...if shooting was something my wife and I participated in together I probably wouldn't go to Nats without at least taking her along to enjoy the trip, even if she couldn't shoot. Go ahead...call me whipped, call me a girlie man. Doesn't matter. I have the 2nd best woman on the planet. My dad has #1.
ErikW
You'll just have to get your other coach to shoot with you. Hey Mikey! Or tell David to quit sniveling and suck up the pain.
warpspeed
I'd cancel.
Shooter Grrl
BigDave: David says it is up to me. Kimel: I think if I decide to go, he'll tag along. Erik: Good idea, but I really don't think "they" will let me shoot with him David says - "i wish it was I could suck up the pain". He's still in a cast! Will be for at least another two months. Warp - why?
AikiDale
BigDave and Kimel have pretty much covered this. You and David have to decide how much nursing he needs. Since you already planned to go....GO if you can still go together even if David can not shoot. Or, if you two really do not enjoy shooting unless you shoot together, save the money and buy bullets to practice for next year! Best wishes for a rapid recovery in any event, Dale
warpspeed
Kath, Have you ever gone shooting without David? If so, how was it? Did you have fun? Did you miss having him there to share in your success and console in you defeats? Did you miss not being able to relive the fun parts on the way home? I know for me that if I were in your shoes and he could not go along even to watch, I would not go. And your Q was "Cancel or Go without?" I would not go. Shooter Grrl
Good points Warp. You are exactly right. I'll go only if he can go with me. I would not enjoy shooting without having him around to talk to and share with.

ErikW
Actually, ROing is a good idea. Just make he sure he checks NO on the form next to, "I can sprint 50 yards every three minutes."
Flexmoney
Read you signiture line for my opinion. (Doesn't apply to Dave and his cast...he should follow Doctor's orders and heal.) As for you though...quite being such a sissy. Don't give us that "I can't shoot without my hubby" crap. Step up. LAMR!
Nik Habicht
Kath, Go! Shoot! Get David to coach --- if he can and if you're willing to listen, or to drive a cart or to video tape, or just to hang. I realize it'll be a totally different experience --- but maybe it's one you both are supposed to have? And David --- if you're out there give her a push! mactiger
If you really want to go, and can't stand going without David, bring him along. If he gets too bored, I'll find something for him to do. Troy (RM, 2004 USPSA Pistol Nationals)
Sam
Ditch him Kath! You know secretly, that he's the one who's been holding you back. You ain't got time to play nursemaid to no casualty. Slip him a mickey the night before, when he wakes up you'll be half way to St. Louie.
rhino
Sam's on the right track ... Having him chauffeur you in the golf cart makes a little sense too. Make sure you make him wear a uniform and the little cap, though.
John Dunn
Sounds like a modified Brostrom and groove deepening procedure for lateral ankle instability and peroneal tendon subluxation. Go shoot, otherwise you will secretly resent David and find ways to "accidently" bump into his cast.
steve223
Go shoot and take David like the kilted one said some one will find something for him to do. Steve
MBaneACP
Kath; I know it's a hard decision, but you've got no choice: you're going to have to put David down. Make it quick, and it'll be over with before he feels a thing... mb

uscbigdawg
Can't you just cut the foot off and duct tape (or Super Glue) a unicycle to his stump? Seriously though. I would bail. Spend the time with the hubby maybe down on the Gulf Coast. If y'all like casinos, etc. head down to Biloxi, MS and chill for a couple of days. Just a thought, but I'm for the unicycle.
