  1. Is shooting on the move the best way to shoot this? My first instinct is not to shoot it on the move.
  2. The only time I had a problem seating a P-Mag was when I managed to load 31 rounds into one. Amazingly it refused to seat with a closed bolt. Must be a design failure.

    Auto Glock?

I had once managed a trigger job that was perfectly fine in dry fire. I could do the test that you described over and over without a problem and yet the gun would double and tripple in live fire. It took a lot more than $.25 trigger job to get it to that point.
  4. It is only a guess on my part, but I have always assumed that a % of the A-zone rule for paper was needed because of major/minor scoring. For example if you do not show some reasonable portion of the A-zone then the best aimed shot for someone shooting minor is 3 points while someone shooting major it is 4 points.
  5. I occasionally read this type of a statement and it always confuses me. What do people mean when they say "(gun) does not point right for me"? I understand that grip angles and weight balance may differ. But isn't that just a question of getting used to it? I can go from a G-35 to a 1911 and back with a handful of indexes. And they both point just fine. Is it simply the fact that I am not that advanced of a shooter to where it would become a factor for me?
  6. After three matches where I could not take down some sort of steel due to either distance, partial cover or how heavy it was set, I sent out my Mossberg barrel to get threaded for chokes. It was probably the best money I have ever spent in this game. Have not had a problem since.
  7. But whatever percentage of a popper is presented, it is an equal challenge for all the shooters. If it is going to fall from a hit to the calibration ring, it will fall from a hit above the calibration ring as well. Why? If a mini popper with 50% of calibration zone visible is a valid presentation then why wouldn't be a full size popper with only an inch or two of the calibration ring exposed? Both presentations have a roughly equivalent area of steel visible. Both will fall if hit in the exposed area.
  8. I am not sure the exact percentage needs to be specified. Steel is not like paper. All of it is A zone and it provides a clear visual feedback to the shooter - it either falls or it does not. So I would leave it to the discretion of MD/RM as to what they consider reasonable and safe.
  9. I think we can arrive at an answer by focusing on the highlighted text. Calibration shot must be taken from a location in the course of fire. That implies that the course of fire is set up and complete. So you can not move a barrel or a steel plate away and put it back as you would be calibrating the popper for a different course of fire than what the competitors will be shooting. Since you are required to hit the calibration zone to calibrate the popper, at least some portion of the calibration zone must be visible from some location within the course of fire.
  10. Rickrolling? Honestly, that is so last week. OK, you got me.
  11. Nice to see our club mentioned by name. Ironic to see the following quote: "The Federal Air Marshal Service has attracted many excellent marksmen over the years. It is no surprise to learn we have one of the best here in New York." When both New York and New Jersey state legislatures are working real hard to drive competitive shooters in respective states out of existence. Without our competitive scene, where do they think this Air Marshal would learn to shoot the way he does?
  12. I would like to comment on the talent vs. hard work discussion. In any game, you need hard work to get into the upper tier. But once there, everyone works just as hard and talent takes over. On the relative scale, participation in USPSA is minuscule compared to mainstream sports. So we are starting with a smaller talent pool. Out of that pool most will not put in the hard work to get to the point where talent becomes a factor.
  13. I'm not arguing that they made an exception. That much is blatantly clear. I'm trying to find out why. Why allow one safety to be removed and require all others to remain? One good reason to get rid of it is to simplify the "If Clear Hammer Down" step. The part about not being able to tell if it was removed may have played a part. I refinished the slide on my wife's gun. I chose not to refinish the part of the slide where they have the legal mumbo-jumbo about not having a mag disconnect, but that was a choice made for aesthetic reasons.
  14. +100 Whatever someone may have intended "back in the day", the reality is that there is a whole line of competition only gear that has evolved to fit IDPA rules. As will happen in any game that has rules. Having said that, I wear an unbuttoned collared short sleeved shirt as my cover garment. It works for me. But If I ever start to feel that I am losing matches because of the cover garment, I will go out and buy the most gamiest vest out there that is legal under the rules.
  15. That is modifying the course of fire and it is cheating, not gaming. Not necessarily --- I've been helped and hurt by walls moving in gusty winds at CJ....... My approach is --- if you don't want the wall to move near a shooting position, you know where to locate the brace that supports the wall..... I do not know Nick. we are not exactly building permanent structures out there. It is one thing when a gust of wind shifts a wall or a target. It is a random event. But if it is alright to lean on walls to create an opening, then how about kicking over barrels or pushing a noshoot out of the way?
  16. As a Glock shooter I do not really have a dog in this fight, but I still do not see the point of this rule. I know what the safeties on my production (and other guns) are and how they work. If challenged I can demonstrate that my gun is in compliance in less than five minutes. Actually I can demonstrate it in under a minute, but it might take ROs a couple of minutes to catch up and acknowledge the fact. But is it reasonable to expect every shooter to have that level of understanding of the inner workings of their gun? I shot my Glock just fine for many years before understanding what the FPB and drop safeties are and how they work. I am not sure what we are gaining for all the trouble. The new rules/clarifications pretty much acknowledge that the train has left the station with regards to trigger work. Not sure why the line was drawn at internal safeties. It is clearly not a safety issue because identical and even more extreme modifications are allowed in other divisions.

  18. Your definition of porno drastically differs from mine.
  19. Why not skip the rim-fire phase and move straight to airsoft? Plastic pellets and gas are a lot cheaper than .22 ammo. </sarcasm>
  20. Title says it all. There are a lot of options out there and a bit of a price range. What do you use and how is it working out?
  21. I have finally seen this move. I liked it. It was well shot, well acted and did not mangle the overall story. Both my wife and I agreed that it seemed a lot shorter than almost three hours - which is another sign of a good movie. I did see six people leave the theater before the end - a group of four girls and a couple - so it is clearly not for everyone.
  22. Overwhelmingly I believe. Looking at SS Nationals that seems to be the trend. In 2006 there were 19 shooters including two in top 10 shooting minor (though whether by choice or due to chrono is an unknown factor). In 2007 The number was down to 16 and none in the top 10. In 2008 it was down to 12, still none in the top 10.
  23. I know that most top shooters shoot major in Limited & Limited 10. Is that also the case in single stack? What is true for top shooters is not necessarily true for average shooters.
  24. I disagree. Depending on the course of fire you could have quite a bit of an advantage in having 10+1 over 8+1 or even 9+1. While the rules state that you should not be required to take more than 8 shots from a single position, there are frequently opportunities to do so. When I started shooting SS I started noticing a lot of array of 3 preceded or followed by an array of 2 situations. With 10+1 you shoot both then reload. With 8+1 you have no choice but to reload between the two (and then you still don't have enough rounds for another array of 3 or 4). With 9+1 you are doing a slide lock reload.
