  1. Wrong, NYC right but not the whole East Coast. As far as I know there are no gunshops in NYC so I bet you will have to leave the city but that needs to be your first stop. I have not lived in NYC since 1988 but back then there were several gun shops that I was aware of. Getting a shotgun and rifle license in NYC was not a big deal, just some paperwork. The license allowed you to purchase and own any any number of long guns. Not sure what the pistol situation was like as I was not into pistol shooting. I have heard that things have gotten much much worse in NYC since then.
  2. Just watched it on On-Demand. I can't say that I busted the gut laughing at any point, but it still somehow managed to create an impression of a really funny movie. Very enjoyable.
  3. The camera comes with a could of mounts, and they slide into a rail on the body of the unit. I stuck the surface-mount one to the headband on my earmuffs, right over my right muff. I used to run it mounted on top of the bill of a hat. Find my airsoft plate-rack video. It was shot that way. Side of the head mount gives you a bit of a weird perspective. I tried that once and quickly switched to cap mount.
  4. I use Tachyon XC camera. It is boxy but not really much heavier than any of the others mentioned here. It does provide a pretty good resolution and captures a lot of light. The 2010 model has a really wide angle view. At $150 it is pricier than some but it comes with a lot of extras. It is also completely waterproof (and I have tested that). You can see the video quality and the mounting . Keep in mind that was the 2009 camera with a narrower field of view. I have the 2010 and the angle of the lens is much wider.
  5. Agree with a lot of what was said already. The plot is completely linear and predictable. Characters are two dimensional. The tree hugging is way over the top. None of it matters though because the imagery is so stunning that it completely blinds you to the rest. I have already seen it twice in IMAX and will probably go again. But I do not expect that I will be watching this movie again once it is out of the theaters.
  6. I went through a very similar evolution. I keep and view full clips for training purposes, but I try to do something fun for the stuff I put on youtube. I use Power Director by CyberLink. It has a lot of nice features and effects and I am still learning how to use it.
  7. Thanks Chris. For now the EVH Glock is in the safe while I am back to shooting production, but I am sure it will be back.
  8. Using multiple cameras like poser cam, for instance, helps to cut down on the need for the operator to be right there in the middle of action. I now have two additional cameras identical to the one I wear on my hat. I've experimented with placing them downrange. The results are worth while. I may put up some videos next season. On the other hand I have started to note a tendency to shoot better when I am not filming. Doing the prepping for filming happens when you are on deck and for me at least seems to dilute my mental focus from where it should be - on shooting. So I may be ending my budding career as a film maker before it really began.
  9. Thats what I thought too. I'm a BIG EVH fan, and I would love to see a pic of that gun a little closer! +1 The paint scheme was indeed inspired by EVH guitar.
  10. Thank you. I did observe it first hand a few weeks ago. I shot a stage and got good hits but felt quite slow going through it. Then I was watching another shooter tear through it very fast. But his time ended up a few tenths slower than mine.
  11. I like hat cam angle but it still gets a little boring after a while. I am also not a huge fan of picture in picture. I think you get the best results by combining the 1st and 3rd person views. It takes a bit more work, but I think the result is more entertaining to look at.
  12. Insisting that proper rules are correctly applied should not make RO's job harder. Correct application of proper rules IS RO's job.
  13. I would not want my asking this question to be misinterpreted as expressing some sort of an opinion. But I would like to understand how recognition of special categories helps to promote our sport.
  14. For me the answer is no. I do not have the time to shoot all the matches that are available in the area as is.
  15. The B zone is not only smaller vertically than the lower A zone but misses in three of the four possible directions on the B zone will result in a Mike while on the lower A zone you will get C's. However in most cases hits on the B zone are accidental.
  16. The way I took the question is "Why is the B zone separated from the C zone, since they both score the same?" Why not just make it all 'C'. I have heard ROs calling out scores of "Alpha Charlie....wait, make that Alpha Bravo", and I thought "what is the difference?". Well you can call it C for all I care. But the perforation between the B & C is useful. This way when you cut off the 'head' you get a built in non-scoring border.
  17. Mine may not be an unbiased opinion but I thought it was a really fun match.
  18. I came across that trick on my own. Unfortunately I have to loosen them up so much that feeding becomes unreliable.
  19. So I put together a Glock limited gun and refinished it with a really racy red and white duracoat paint job. After it was all finished I had placed it in the safe and left it alone for a while as I mostly shoot production. And all of my limited classifiers to that point were out of my production gear with minor loads. I did bring it out for one practice match and did not do well at all. The hits were on the sloppy side. I chalked it off to not being used to the gun balance and the major loads. I also did not feel comfortable with the race holster and mag placement. So I put it back in the safe and shot single stack for a while then went back to production. Finally I decided that I was going to shoot limited again. I did about a week of dry fire to get used to the gear and took that gun to a match. It was a disaster. I could not hit poppers to save my life and had a bunch of mikes. Anything that was further out than say 7-10 yards seemed to be more a matter of luck than intent. The whole thing was actually rather disheartening. I was bummed out the entire ride home. I got home and still can't get over the lousy performance I just had. So I take the gun out and start dry firing it. And my sights are rock steady - not even a tiny movement. I just can't figure it out. How could I have been missing those mini poppers? Then the realization hits me and I have to share this tip with everyone else. When you remove the sights to refinish your slide, do not forget to go to the range and sight the gun in once you put them back!
  20. I built a dedicated .22 upper using spike tactical bolt and barrel. It runs very well so far but there is a problem with the Black Dog mags. They run just fine to start but after a couple of mag fulls the follower starts to bind. The problem seems to be powder residue that gets into the mag and acts like sandpaper. The only way to get it working again is to take the mag completely apart and clean it out thoroughly which is a PITA process. Has anyone had a similar problem and is there a solution?
  21. I am a cross eye dominant who ended up shooting lefty. It is completely natural for me to handle firearms left handed and somewhat awkward to do it right handed. For most other things it is the other way around though I have developed a few other dexterity based skills that I am comfortable doing with my left hand. I am not sure that I would recommend trying it. For me it evolved that way from when I was about seven years old.
  22. I was pretty happy using my Mossberg 590A1 with ghost ring sights. Worked well enough up close.
  23. I would enjoy this stage either way. I am not sure unloaded start adds too much. The round count is sufficient to where reloads will be a factor anyway. With a loaded start, you are going to have to load 11 after the start assuming no misses. Plus you have to manage slugs and shot.
