  1. I try not to think of it as my weak side. Its more like my less experienced side. but I've practiced it up pretty well like Craig said.
  2. I agree. Personally I am not a fan of shooting off the weak shoulder even in real life. Yes you expose less of your body as a target but you are shooting with your weak side and most people don't shoot nearly as well on this side and they must stay exposed longer to make the shots and their accuracy is not as great. If they wanted to limit weak side shooting they should say their must be a barricade or something for the competitor to shoot around (and use for support) to make weak side shooting viable. So Pat......you never see the need to go bi-lateral in tight confines of a house when searching rooms?
  3. C-Rums is your man. He is a member here. PM him or visit his website at c-rums.com There are multiple informative threads on the SX2,SX3, and SLP. It might be worth your time to scan back through some of them.
  4. Thanks Dean and crew and all that made the match possible. Match was a ton of fun and ran smooth as silk. Hope to make it back next year. My only complaint.....was the ride home. To all of our squad mates who started on stage 1. Enjoyed shooting and hanging out with all y'all. I'll zombie hunt with y'all anyday.

  6. Rifle and shotgun is great to me. I shoot pistol every weekend.
  7. Darst.....that guy(shaking head and laughing).....he could break an anvil
  8. I don't have software that lets me draw in little arrows. But the extractor notch is on the right.....you should be able to see the rolled edge just inside of the barrel at that notch and just above and below it where I polished lightly with a 240 grit flapper wheel. That is the area that needs addressed. When you have your barrel off....just take your index finger and jab it in the chamber......you'll find out real fast where the sharp edge is that needs addressed.
  9. Name Change??? DPMS Deuce Gun Challenge I'd still come.
  10. Sounds like you are getting the brist of all the problems combined. I have worked on a few like that. It can be fixed. Honestly...with that much wrong....I would send it back to FNH. It needs a new shell latch spring, the recoil tube is probably binding or bent. The recoil spring rate could be too heavy, the magazine tube could be installed in the gun off center causing piston bind. The piston spring may be broke. And the chamber needs a light polish near the extractor groove area. The SRM Sure Cycle could solve the recoil tube problem because they replace it with a new stainless assembly. Sealing the piston would eliminate the piston spring from ever breaking because they remove the spring and replace it with a spacer. They also lap the bolt in the receiver to smooth it up. Let them know to check some other issues with it that I mention and you may be good to go. But keep in mind. Their upgrades are meant for hardcore waterfowl hunters. We are a little different breed. Chris Patty had his SX3 done by SRM and could not tell much difference and still has occasional issues with his SX3. If there is anyway I can help...let me know.
  11. Mike....I've seen about a 50/50 rate of the FN's run good out of the box. My SX3 ran 100% out of the box but the group of us bought 3 of them and the other two were not 100%. Now granted...mine did run into some trouble that I had to work out 2500 rounds into it. But I have figured these platforms out pretty good. as for any shotgun running 100%. Its just not gonna happen for what we demand from these guns in our use. There is always going to be a quirk when you least expect it. Hopefully its a minor quirk. And contrary to popular belief...Benellis are not totally reliable. What they are,are very simple in operation compared to any other gas gun. Can you explain the jam you are experiencing? Shoot me a PM if you want.
  12. Below is a pic of the lifter slot. This actually was done after the feed problem was solved by throating the area around the extractor notch in the barrel. That sharp edge transition into the barrel was causing all the problem. I just cut the lifter to give me access through the lifter in case I had a double feed on top the lifter. This entrance point allows me to get my knife blade or multitool in to clear it. I DO also believe the slot helps guide the shell to some degree also.
  13. Yes....I can add a rail section to the top and the sides. the sides have holes for short sections. The top has holes all along it. The JP is a nice tube. Its just not as light and it doesn't dissipate heat as well.
  14. I have the 14" PRI Competition tube. I like it alot. Had it for a while. They make a 16" too if you call and ask for it. I got my 14" over a year ago.
  15. Tod, How would the shell hang up as it tried to go into battery on the "short stroke" you are referring to? Here's the reason I ask. I am having some failure to feed issues with my SLP as well. I have come to the conclusion that it may be the welded gate, but not 100% sure. When the gun is full I will have one or two shells that hang on the right side of the chamber as they go into battery. The failure takes a quick bump of the charging handle to clear. Is this a lifter issue, as I have assumed, or is it something else? (Like a faulty piston?) The gun just started this and has always run fine. Here's what I have done to this point: - Several thorough cleanings - Cleaned and lubed the inside of the magazine tube. Outside polished down with steel wool - no oil. - Shouldering the shotgun in different positions - Running a variety of ammo. It seems to do it with everything I feed it. - Polish job with steel wool on all moving parts related to feeding. Cheers, Kyle Kyle....the short stroking is usually an ejected shell and one on the lifter. Sometimes an empty is still in the chamber with one sitting on the lifter or partially out of the mag tube. The feed issue you are having is the crimp of the shell getting snagged on the ejector notch which robs bolt momentum and causes the shell to get hung on the transition into the barrel requiring a slight nudge to put the bolt into battery. I have seen this happen with welded and unwelded lifters. I use a 240 grit flapper snading wheel to add a slight rolled edge to the right side of the barrel. It smooths the transition of the crimp as the shell enters the barrel. Since I have started doing that....feed problems have disappeared. I also cut a 1/4" wide slot in my lifter to help guide the rear of the shell up as well as give me an entry point to stick my knife into if I have two shells pop out of the mag tube.
  16. I had the set early on in my introduction to AR's The handguard does not vent very well and traps alot of heat. There are better choices in my opinion in both grips and handguards. I prefer the JP and Troy/VTAC Battlerail or PRi Carbon Fiber
  17. I shot with Barry Dueck of Surefire at the LaRue Tactical 3 Gun match and noticed he had a neat looking set of offset irons on his LMT 308 Heavy Optic gun. Barry is actually manufacturing his own set of sights. They mount on the top rail and have the matching offsets built into the sights themselves. The rear is an A2 adjustable for both windage and elevation and they are the same height over bore as a standard set of sights. Probably the nicest and best thought out set of offset irons I have seen. I think these are going to be popular for the guys that like to run offset irons. They are extremely well made. You can see them here. I noticed forum vendor CPWSA already has them in his store.
  18. A great match for sure. If my wife told me I could only shoot one match a year....this would be it. Absolutely my favorite match of the year. Even in the rain...I still had a ball. Congrats to Frank Proctor for shooting a solid clean match in Tac Optics and to the other winners of their divisions. Hats off to David and his wife, Bill McDonald, Steffan, Randall, all the RO's who volunteered their time and the gracious sponsors and anyone else I may have left out in the long list of folks it takes to run such a quality match. And definitely a huge THANKS to the host range...Brock's Gap Training Center...aka Steel City. Looking forward to next year already and to those that don't mind the drive there is a carbine match at Steel City every 5th Saturday that is every bit as good.
  19. I've worked on about 20 different SLP and SX2/SX3's and have seen 3 pistons with broken springs. They have all been on FNH SLP MKI's. I have an SX3 and it has about 3-4000 rounds on it and I watch the spring and piston closely. It has yet to break. If your gun starts short stroking sporadically.....the piston is the first thing I would check.
  20. As for empty gun grounding...I'm fine with that so long as that is what everyone has to do. What I am not fine with is announcing in the shooters meeting that a match DQ is a round in the chamber with the bolt or slide closed and a stage DQ is a round left in the gun other than the chamber and then when the match starts.....a match DQ is given regardless of the condition. If the stage designer uses good forethought and common sense in abandonment locations....the gun can be grounded in a safe condition regardless of its condition. Pencils don't mispell words and guns don't shoot by themselves. There are certain situations that I think warrant a match DQ. Breaking the 180, A Negligent Discharge, sweeping yourself with the muzzle and dropping or losing control of a loaded gun. Improperly but safe grounded guns should be no more than a stage DQ in my opinion if that. Toss it in a barrel and it bounces out on the ground and happens to have a round in the chamber....then yeah....match DQ. But seriously....if an RO picks up a grounded gun with a closed slide and no magazine inserted and an errant round falls out of the magwell.....c'mon.....really?
  21. One thing I really liked at the FNH match last weekend was the use of just about all steel targets. Scoring was a breeze and it was not easy hitting those little plates with pistol. also very weather neutral. One thing I would do if placing them in natural terrain is to tie orange flagging tape to the bases. And the RO that thought of tying the bailing wire from the plate to the stand was just brilliant. I like the 3 gun matches that keep the emphasis divided equally amongst all 3 guns also. Like was said....."If you build it...they will come"
  22. See the website at 3 Gun Nation.com Check out the highlight reel of his match which took him to a second place finish just 13 points behind Taran Butler.Awesome Job Rob.....the Team is proud of your accomplishment. Your hard work has something to show for it now.
