  1. I don't think 3 gunners know what LE/MIL need more than they do per se....but I do think 3 gunners who are also LE/MIL have a better grasp on the necessities. Like it or not....there is a parallel to the game, equipment involved in it and the real world. To many purists just don't want to agree.
  2. Then I will definitely promote the CQT for matches with distance inside 300 yards. Erik recommended I use a CQT when I got started in 3 gun and it is still one of my most favorite scopes today for mid range competition and tactical use. It does not have a daytime illuminated reticle but the circle dot is easily visible against just about all target types. Yes....Illumination would be just slightly faster but it was never a problem for me. Field of view on 1x was quite large and still plenty sufficient on 3x. The bigger drawback was eye relief on 3x. It changed a good bit from 1x-3x. Glass quality is conducive with all Leupold products....its on the upper end. The scope is not overly large and is fairly compact and very robust. A separate mount is not needed. Add a Drissel Cat Tail throw lever and it becomes a very good scope for 3 gun. I personally think the scope is an excellent choice for mid range work inside 300 yards. Especially if it can be had for a good price. I still have mine and use it on a work rifle.
  3. Just tweak the inward pressure of the trigger bar just a bit to stiffen up the feel of the reset. The M&P has never had a real tactile feeling reset in any of the many M&P's I have played with. When i do a trigger job...I tweak the trigger bar in two spots to improve reset.
  4. Link to the story in the Nashville Post Never a good thing when the ATF gets involved
  5. Stan Baker Sports in Washington State.....they are the only ones in the country that can thread for Invector Plus chokes from what I understand. I lost their number....sorry
  6. I ordered a SSS sear a little over a week ago and just got an APEX sear. As mentioned on here earlier....the APEX sear is pretty much drop in improvement. Its about a 255 improvement over the Pro sear and easily a 60% improvement over the standard MIM sear. The SSS sear still needs to be cut for your desired engagement. The SSS is a more versatile sear given the area where the trigger bar engages is meaty and allows for options. They both appear to be very hard. I personally like using the SSS sear for triggers that break towards the front with an overtravel stop to limit rearward travel. Both are very well made.
  7. I had one of the MRP platforms early on when they were first released. I had a 16" barrel for it to start and then when my first Form 1 was approved....on went the 10.5" barrel. I had some reliability issues with the 16". It ended up being a bolt issue. It was the enhanced bolt form LMT. I replaced it with a Colt MP bolt and never again had a problem. for giggles....I put the enhanced bolt back in with the 10.5" barrel and FTE problems resurfaced. Changed back to the Colt bolt for the remaining duration I owned it and it ran perfectly. It was a great upper. It did turn purple and and after a few complaints they replaced it with their newest version. The model they replaced had close to 20k rounds through it. I sold the replacement upper when I got it to await the arrival of their piston version.By the time their piston version had been released the fad had sorta worn off to me and I was becoming less and less a fan of the piston guns. Sooo....my only complaint was with their enhanced bolt. And I've heard that to be a widespread problem.
  8. I've had some Choates and then California Competition Works, then tried the Progrssive Machine&Tool(now Progressive Arms), and now I have the Man Mountain Engineering caddies and they are the best caddies I have used yet. They are lighter and more compact than any of the others mentioned. I can get 7 on my belt when I could only get 6 of the others. They are secure and fast also. MME gets my vote.
  9. My SX3 piston is the light piston and it has a black band. Its the only one my gun came with. The red band definitely comes with the FNH guns as does one with a black band to denote the two. Red is considered the light piston. But so is mine with a black ring and a few other SX2 pistons I have seen. Mine has 2 rows of holes and the holes measure .312". It is for loads less than 1 1/4oz. There is a sporting clays piston for loads less than 1 1/8oz. Have you checked to see if your spring is broken inside the piston? I've seen quite a few broken springs that alter the operation of the piston.
  10. Yes....I have interchanged them and shot them. They are direct replacement barrels. Work fine I had mine cut down to 21" which was not intentional. i wanted it cut to 22". The overbored diameter was rather large. If memory serves me correctly...it was .853 The end of the barrel has to be swelled in order to be threaded for the chokes to work with the extreme overbored barrel of the Invector Plus choke system. Only one place in the country that does this. A place in Washington called Stan Baker sports. They were a nightmare to deal with. I can explain more in a PM if you're interested.I actually thought I may never get my barrel back. when I finally did it was 21". Now FN is making a 24" barrel. Had that been available when I bought my SX3....I would never have fooled with cutting it.
  11. Aside from the Swarovski.....for open with a close range red dot optic....I really like the Nightforce 2.5-10x24 with their Velocity reticle. A big scope in a small package with a bearable price tag considering its awesome quality. But me personally....I would just run one optic for open. A Swaro Z6i 1-6. Same optic I run now in Tac Optics. I don't like changing the cheek weld or canting the rifle if not necessary.I also prefer the same sight picture...but hey, thats me. With that said several of the best Open division 3 gunners run the red dot on the side with an optic. Jerry Miculek, Mike Voigt, James Darst, Chris Tilley to name a few.
  12. I'm surprised more companies don't make a 3/4 or 7/8 ounce slug option. Seems like a more reasonable option for low recoil slugs.
  13. To my knowledge....there is no one that makes a barrel with those specs and criteria any longer than 16". You're going to have to get a 20" government profile and have it profiled. The good thing is that those barrels can be had fairly cheap on the used market.
  14. Romero and Satterfield are going but I don't think I'm gonna be able to make it.
  15. the Troy has holes and the VTAC has elongated slots. I personally think he VTAC looks better.
  16. And then there is always good ol black electrical tape. Wrap that pad and make it slick. We've been doing that to our shotguns for some time now.

    Glock 4gen

Seriously? Four threads down here you could not find nor seek the answer to your question? Its 5 pages of talk about what you are asking.
  18. I use a 200 yard zero. For anything out to 350....my reticle(dot) is still touching the target assuming its a 10" flash target. If there are targets beyond that,I have hold references with the Z6 that I can use or I will dial dope. I prefer to dial dope and hold dead on at those distances. I have confirmed dope that I can dial out to 550 yards. Do you have a 50 yard zero assuming its good at 200 or do you have a 200 yard zero? Because 50 is not 200 until its confirmed at 200. You will be fine with whatever zero you decide to run. Whichever one you choose...KNOW IT to the best of your ability.
  19. Try contacting Magpul and see if you can get the Gen 1 butt plate. Then drive the roll pins out and replace. Or....you could always trade someone your Gen 2 for their Gen 1. Win/Win What would happen if you removed the rubber from the plate that is there? that would probably be an option too.

    Glock Gen.4

The new recoil spring assembly really tames the 40 and makes follow through much easier on the shooter. You cant tell so much witt the 9mm. It still shoots well just doesn't throw brass but about 2' directly to your right. I like the Gen 4 with no added grip panels. It feels great in the SF configuration. And they did good with the different texture and mag release. I really dig the 4th Gen.
  21. I prefer an adjustable 2 point sling. Key to them is proper attachment to your weapon. They need to be mounted on the sides of the weapon. The only shotties that come setup for proper side sling attachments are the Benelli defensive shotguns. So a little work will need to be done to get yours converted for proper installation. I use a Spec Ops adjustable 2 point on my shotguns and a BFG Vickers 2 point o my AR's.
  22. FN is now making a 24" vent rib for the SLP and SX2/3 That is the shortest you will find from the factory. Ty calling them directly or browsing Gun Broker. Maybe PM member TommyGun on here....he works for FN and has direct knowledge of how to get you one.
  23. Welcome to the forum. Not to come across to harsh but this is another one of those questions that would have yielded great results by using the search feature. There have been several discussions on the AR Gold since its release. Its always good practice to do a quick search and read the posts and threads pertaining to your intended question rather than make another repeat thread. Just FYI. Enjoy the forum.
