  1. Depending on if you come this way, there are several more places. Blackwater practical shooters 2 hours from central richmond Sir Walter Gun Club 2 hours from central richmond North Mountain practical shooters 3 hours from central richmond Quantico Practical shooters 1 hour from central richmond despite what some folks say, you can shoot every day of every weekend if you are willing to travel. USPSA is so popular here that signups must be held in advance in an attempt to keep the number of shooters manageable. If you want to shoot IDPA, etc., there is more as well. Hope this helps.
  2. Respectfully fellow snob, must regretably disagree. There is one time when you can count past 8+1... When your bride and fellow club member (#67) decides to shoot skinny minor this year "to give my hubby a chance". The worst part... she won the division shooting minor last match. With great humility and gentle demeanor, I submit that ultimate snobbery would dictate only .45 and 8+1 is the appropriate count for Knights of John Browning who are without blemish or stain. I am however a fallen creature who has confessed his sins and renounced his youthful lusts. I am forgiven and therefore forgiving, and gracious accept that fellow snob #67 may shoot... 8+1+1+1. Esteemed Sir... Your clever turn of phrase is exceptionally enlightening, however, again in my humble defense after 21 years of having not found the way to win any argument and still not stay in the unlit, unheated canine abode, I am forced to aquiece to the highest authority. (Begin Southern drawl) However, I aint givin up my youthful lusts... that sounds like way too much fun... watch this and hold my beer.

  4. +1! Find a local friend with a 650 (thanks basman), go load up some ammo. While it is not as wide ranging as a 550, and wont produce the same as a 1050, it is an awesome production machine. The whole 800 rounds an hour is an easy pace. You can average without pushing at all, 25-30 rounds a minute until you need to refill primers. The pinned 650 thread has lots of tips and tricks that work well. Buy from our host, 650, the "as it should be" package, casefeeder, and you are rolling. On top of that, Dillon's warranty is just what they say it is.

  7. ST, I had the same thing on my 650, but only about 30 primers. The first thing you check is fingers... if you can see your fingers... then you check your shorts. The good thing about it is that you can use the deafness thing around the SO for a while claiming the ringing in your ears. Serious, glad you are ok!
  8. Have a couple of issues with my rifles: AR-15. I think is the rifle attempting to double. Ammo is Fed 55 grain. Fire rifle, and when I attempt to fire the next round, the hammer has gone back forward during the firing sequence so you cannot fire again, and the primer for the fresh round (when extracted) shows a light hit. Manually operate the rifle and it will fire. This happened 4 times out of 20 rounds fired. Should I start looking in the trigger group to solve this issue? Next rifle is an AR-10. Ammo is South African, the bolt is not extracting the fired case. Could this be the spring on the extractor needs replacing? Thanks in advance. Ed
  9. As part of the team (wife and husband) that did (we have done it for 2 years and are retiring) stats for a club that had 100 shooters (90-120) each month, the following is offered of our methodology: 1. We had pre-registration on the club website, so shooter information was downloaded into excel spreadsheet. 2. 1 of us set up (stats wise) the match in 1 hour, including entering shooters. Matches were 6 - 7 stages. 3. After the match and the collection of scoresheets, we would organize the scoresheets in the car during the drive home. 4. With 100 shooters, working as a team, scores were done and posted within 2 hours of arriving home. Then we could take showers, eat, whatever. 100 shooters, 5.5 manhours per month doing it the "old school" way. Part of that was an accounting provided to the club rep of the financials of the match. With that many shooters, it would be difficult to populate squads on a palm in the 5-10 minutes you have for the shooter safety brief and also deal with the last minute walkups and tardy arrivals and still get to your first stage in a timely fashion. We did not want to switch to palms because of what we perceived to be the extra work during setup, maintenance, etc. We felt that our systemology was as efficient as we could make it. Besides we wanted to shoot the match.
  10. I'd say you have too little data to form a conclusion. Check out the results from several national championships & postal matches for a more meaningful comparison. I agree with DWFAN & lugnut. Glad to see that some folks witnessed it, us virginia boys werent invited (probably because we shoot CDP and are so good lookin). Had to add the last part to keep the thread on track and not get closed by the mods. Mel is a very nice classy lady and John sure married up!
  11. Are you sure the percentage is that low??? :surprise:http://
  12. Well... In addition to being better looking, taller, having women swoon over us, people begging to give us money, we skinny gun guys are the stuff to be. It doesn't hurt to have "THE" gun. Flame suit on...
  13. First, thanks to all those who set up, built and ran the match. The behind the scenes folks really do earn their pay. Second, shooting a 4 stage 200 round match (yeah all of them were 50 each!), listening to car's racing behind you between shooters, being squadded with great folks, then going out to lunch and desert is deep fried oreo's. Thanks big daddy!!! Boys and girls, it don't get no gooder!!!
  14. Virginia Arms in Manassas (30 miles outside DC in VA) is great! They charge 30 bucks and they sponsor both Area and Section matches. 703-368-3949 Really nice folks to top it off.
  15. Hey guys, I need some pricing from 2011 R. S. Means guides to validate some costs. Looking for section 01 54 33.40 Temporary Barricades. I need some pricing for temporary traffic barricades and also some pedestrian sidewalk temporary barricades for a bridge project. I have the 2011 Facilities Construction and the 2011 Heavy Construction, but neither of those have that section. If you can help, would you mind emailing me at deeganet at yahoo dot com? Thanks in advance. Does this mean I win today's weirdest post? Regards, Ed
  16. Here is mine, its not bolted to the wall, but it is fairly heavy duty. 6 x 6 legs, with 2 x 6 band boards. 2 layers 3/4 mdf and a top layer of 3/4 a-c plywood. About 300 bucks for the materials including all-thread, lags and polyurethane. Completely modular too so if some gorilla wants to move it, they can.
  17. Keeping it in your front pocket doesn't make it an automatic bump to open, the bump to open is when you allow it in front of your hipbone. You can still keep them in your front pocket if you fix your pocket so that it wont allow it in front of your hipbone. (sew it, safety pin, whatever). Some clothing will allow this, some won't.
  18. I have had good luck with uncle mike's doubles. With small modifications, they are perfect for what we do and you can 6 on without going to the middle of your back. Our experience is they are $16 for the double pouch, and with about 1/2 hour each with basic hand tools and $5 (for 6 pouches) worth of hardware from the local hardware store, you can make them pretty sporty on a real low price point.

    Dillon

On Saturday, I blew up about 30 primers in the tube on my 650. Called them on Tuesday and the replacement parts were at the house yesterday. In speaking with them, they actually cared if I was ok? Where does that happen anymore? I cant think of any reason not to have that pretty blue. Absolutely great people. Thank you Dillon!
  20. Stuart, its a nice place for older folks and families with real little ones. Not a lot for kids to do, and (according to my wife) shopping is eh... the nice part was relaxing on the beach, watching the sun come up and relaxation. Got through 3 books, it was sooo nice. Stayed at a very nice B&B and enjoyed it.

    Vacation

We (fellow forum member T_Deegan) are going on our first vacation in 6 years next week. The past few years we have shot matches, or gone to help setup matches or whatever burning up our vacation. This year, we are going to Chincoteague for 4 days of relaxation. Watch the horses, eat some good food, phones off, email off, 4 days of who cares about the rest of the world. Decompress, get rid of the stress. One of the best parts is that Tom Clancy has a new book out that I wont have time to read until I get to the beach. The most strenuous thing planned is to move the chair out of the waves as we watch the tide go in and out. AWESOME!!!!! We are soooo jazzed.
  22. shot this today. ss 5.42 down 1. Something told me to put 2 mags in the slot. 1st one came out with the gun. Had to reach way in there. My first m, hope it counts.
  23. Work on your draw. It seemed as though you lost a significant amount of time getting on your grip and then getting it out of that ghost. Also wiggle your fingers at are you ready. Your fingers look very tense, wiggling them will help you relax. Drive the gun out once its out. You were doing the scoop draw thing. It is slowing down your other hand joining the gun at the proper time, and then making your complete grip which slows down your first shot. Bring it up higher sooner and get your other hand on the gun sooner. A Gm buddy told me to slap myself on the chest during the draw and the "surprise" of contact will make you move quicker. It seemed to work. Try picking your front sight up when you are driving the gun out. The reload dropped way down. A good way to keep it up is to stand at your reloading bench and then put a box in front of you. Not so high that you change your sight picture/arm position, but so that when you pull the gun back to reload, the box wont let you drop your hands. Bringing the gun closer to your during your reload will help. The closer it is to you the more control you have. Less rocking your body to the side on your reload. Practice those in front of a mirror and you will see what you are doing. Adjust your mag pouches if necessary. Your reload seemed to be about 2.5 seconds, you can drop that down pretty easy. Those are tough shots, but you can do it. Hope this helps.
  24. It's a good gun. Used one as a backup for several years now (not needed as the primary is very reliable). Barrel is a little thinner than the higher end models, plastic trigger wasn't great. 7k through the gun it rattles more than my primary which has probably 60-70k through it, so will definitely agree with the fit comments of the previous posters. Not a bad gun if you can get a good deal. I cant offer any comments about the series 80 safety.
  25. +1 +1 again. I'd be quite happy with that. But in contrast to your wife Ed, I'll tote load, clean and reload my own. Perhaps I am too independent. knowing then what I know now... nope, not gonna say it, she is a member on this board.
