  1. I will go against the grain and make a bold prediction... Close your eyes and picture this.. It's July You are at Fredericksburg Rod and Gun Club... It's 38 degrees... Centigrade
  2. Thanks everyone for their replies. I went the through the rulebook before posting, and could not find a "dq", but...
  3. Thanks, I did search but since the change in format, the search function comes up with a ton of stuff that really makes me wonder. I will search harder next time.
  4. This may be a dumb question, but shooter receives MR. Shooter thumb cocks pistol and applies safety while in the holster. The shooter then draws pistol and does the normal pre-stage routine. Shooter then loads pistol, receives remaining commands and commences to shoot stage. Besides not verifying the gun is actually empty (which isn't very smart), it doesn't appear to be a violation of 10.5.11 or any other rule. Am I missing something else?
  5. Rob, I am going to tell my wife on you... you are in such deep trouble (trust me I know).
  6. Virginia you are welcome (you probably aleady know that). Maryland - No rounds in mags at all, to include dummies. Probably best disassembled. I dont shoot open but I think MD has a 20 round limit. Gun and mags seperated and locked. Pack like you are flying and dont go into DC.
  7. Called him last Tuesday to order some bullets. Offered credit card on the phone, he said, "no just send me a check, I will get them out tonight". The darn bullets came in yesterday. No way he could have gotten the check and then forwarded the bullets in less than week. Just another reason to never spend money with anyone not on this forum. Thanks again Manny!
  8. Thanks guys for the advice. It is different lots of powder I am sure. The 8# jug that loaded the loads last year is gone and the new jug was bought at a different time and place. When it chrono'd 171, the barrel had 1,000 rounds through it. Do you find the Solo to be "smokey"? In the video's (Ben Stoeger) I have seen of it being shot, and granted it was 9mm, it appeared to be real "smokey". I find clays to be very clean and almost no smoke with this load. I dont hear/read anyone saying to reduce OAL to increase pressure potentially giving more velocity. Is this because that I am already potentially at the ragged edge pressure wise, or is the non recommendation due to reliability? Just curious. Does anyone recommend a re-barrel? This barrel is fine, but a new one could have a tighter chamber which would allow the load to be reduced? I know it would be pretty hit or miss to find a tighter barrel, but in the wisdom gathering business... Thanks again.
  9. At a recent match, it took 6 to get through chrono and it was close. 163 for first 3, and 167 for the second 3. The load is 4.2 clays, 230 MG, federal 150, OAL is 1.25 with a .469 crimp. No indicators of pressure (no flattened primers). I know this is past Clays max, but with no pressure signs, this should be ok. This was re-barreled a year ago and with this barrel it went 171, then took all 7 to reach 165.1. Should I bump the powder a tenth or reduce oal by ? Am I missing something else? Thanks in advance. Ed
  10. us... 1st Saturday 3 hours 238 miles (time and distance one way) 1st Sunday 1 hour 56 miles 2d Saturday 1.5 hours 98 miles 2d Sunday (when we can) 2 hours 119 miles 3d Saturday and Sunday 1 hour 59 miles 4th Saturday (cut the dadgum grass) 4th Sunday 2 hours 117 miles. This sport is addicting. Does anyone have a match on the 4th Saturday within 1,000 miles of dc?
  11. How is the match going? day to day results anywhere?
  12. Gotta add a couple Beer Math, 2 beers a piece times 12 guys = 22 cases. Steel beach day with a captain that doesnt drink = you are still stuck on that damn grey boat. incoming fire (any) always has the right of way. The 2 most dangerous things; a 2nd Lt. with a map and compass, and a pfc with a badge. Getting off early because of the Marine Corps ball, and spending 4 hours consuming MASSIVE amounts of adult beverages, then going to the ball, where the guest of honor is some general whose wife is named "bunny" and starting to snicker will make a) the rest of the drunks at your table start laughing and actually earn some really dirty looks.
  13. Just an fyi, any grips that are thick enough work with techwell. There is enough material in the gunners grips to cut the slots and hang them.
  14. Gunners grips are pretty nice too. About once a month, you gotta clean the dead skin out of them.
  15. Mrs. D here Seth. You are an old dawg. Have a lovely day. Mrs. D. (PS Don't you usually just wander off in the yard and pee? I thought all men did that).
  16. As an IDPA SO, one of the things I really dont like is the rulebook's mentality of intent. Most of us are not psychic, and probably don't want to know what goes through most folks head. The SO's job is to make sure you are safe within the rules. Taking it a step further, my philosophy is within the rules that can be unambiguously enforced. Round dumping (unless you are not too smart) is one of the several areas where the rulebook is ambiguous and creates angry shooters. Is that what you seek in a sport? I have called "misses or -3's" that were or were not and fired a makeup. Does this make me a round dumper? Like our host and many others say, you can only shoot as fast as you can see, and in a .xx split, I am seeing as quickly as I can. The SO is supposed to get a minute to decide what I decided in .xx? It's like saying someone who puts 2 rounds efficiently on an activator making it fall faster is round dumping. That person is probably a good enough shooter that he/she can do it and not be late for his next target or exposure, whatever. Like Matt Burkett says, I ask the RO how he/she wants it shot, and do it more efficiently than the rest.
  17. Update We shot this at a local match Monday. Shot the single stack as the fat gun is down for maintenance. It wasn't quite regulation (spacing between the targets) and it wasn't counted as a classifier. Points were 53(not good), time was 7.27. I screwed up the draw, had a trigger freeze (grip way to tight), and then to top it off had a blistering 3.37 reload. The bad reload got in my head, and I pulled a d and a c as the first two shots after the reload (called them and still shot them). Taking into account the bad draw and reload, I think I am on the right track. Any thoughts?
  18. I voted, took the don't care option. IMO it's not a big deal. Agree that the single stack classic should be 1911 single stacks. Absolutely agree with "un-combining" the nationals. The nationals should be the nationals, for ALL of our divisions.
  19. Thanks guys! This is why I love Benosverse. Straight forward honest feedback. Thanks Brian, Flex and everyone else that makes this place fantastic! As to the live fire timing, I was on a public indoor range and the timer wouldnt work well with folks on both sides of me. Since we are blizzarded in this weekend, my wife and I will be dry firing.
  20. Having shot with John, he will carry the torch with pride and he is a shooter! 1 A 667.8200 100.00% 2 M 667.4896 99.95% 3 GM 656.9564 98.37% 4 Tischler, John B 633.8825 94.92% 5 A 630.9249 94.48% 6 B 576.9410 86.39% John, you owe me $5.
  21. That one should work. Thanks for everyone's help!
  22. Bill Thank you for the comments. Just starting to df after about 9 months without. Using the Ben Stoeger program but plan on 2 - 3 sessions each day rather than one a day. As to honesty on the dry fire, deep down I dont think I have been honest with myself and calling good shots, so I really appreciate you making that observation. Thanks! I think I will go to the range tomorrow and take your advice! Thanks even more.
  23. Jayson, In a word... no. IDPA does not allow lights on the gun. Sorry bro.
